Roddy White - WR, ATL - Active (1 Viewer)

At first it was

(1) A source tells Profootballtalk that there's 80-20 odds Roddy White (ankle) will not play in Sunday's opener against the Saints.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to raise concerns Sunday morning by saying White's ankle is "worse than the Falcons are letting on." FOX Sports' Jay Glazer later chimed in and reported White had yet to cut on the ankle since injuring it in the second preseason game. It appears White did suffer the dreaded high-ankle sprain, though the Falcons denied it. If White can't go, Julio Jones has the ability to just go off. Jones was already locked in as a top-five receiver play. White is going through pre-game warm-ups as we speak. He's a full-blown game-time decision. The Falcons will announce inactives in about an hour. Sep 8 - 10:35 AM

and then it was

(2) Roddy White (ankle) will start Sunday's opener versus New Orleans.
White is clearly not 100 percent. He's reportedly dealing with a high-ankle sprain, though the Falcons have denied it. White went through pre-game warm-ups, and the Falcons apparently liked what they saw. Initially considered a top-ten receiver play for Week 1, it now sounds like White will be limited. He's going to be a risky fantasy start. If you have a deep receiver group, it might be best to consider starting someone else. It's a tough call. Sep 8 - 10:50 AM

Nice job of saying it was a low ankle sprain all along....

@AdamSchefter: Will be challenging for WR Roddy White to play vs. Saints with his high ankle sprain, but Falcons convinced he's playing today.

@AdamSchefter: Falcons say WR Roddy White will start today.

Jaworski was at stadium giving an update and mentioned he had not seen White warming up. You could see players warming up behind him. Not sure what that infers.

I seem to remember last year he was questionable like this and ended up playing and positing huge numbers.

A hurt Roddy White hurts Julio Jones a bit as well. It's like Cruz and Nicks in NY: both guys benefit by the healthy presence of the other. The Falcons need both to go far this season, so while you hate to blow off a game in Week 1 against a rival, it might be better for the long run to let Roddy sit this one and get healthy instead of taking a chance on him hurting it further and it hindering him all season.

agree. if anything, it helps Gonzalez. I have a feeling we will hear soon that White i sitting this one out. Let's see. Are you allowed to "change your mind" after declaring someone active?

He doesn't need to actually play. But you don't keep a guy active to not play him, unless of course the intention is to play him but then he realizes when the clock is actually moving that he can't.

The way I see it, if he's got a bad wheel they're not going to trot him out there as a decoy. Why risk further injury? Now, they might not say a damn thing till game time, but that's what I'd do as well. I've personally got Givens in there for him now and if I hear he's definitely going to play I'll put him in with confidence.

If he's starting for the falcons he's starting in my fantasy team. . He's played hurt multiple times in the past

yeah, too early for the "decoy" treatment. I'll keep a lookout for another 30 minutes. Let's see if anyone spots him on the field! ;)

The jaworski comment wasn't promising.

Roddy White is currently warming up on the field. Looks good so far with cuts and pressure on the ankle.

:IBTL:
Haha. well it's good news for sure. The second and third phases phase will be how he feels after he gets tackled and how he feels after a "long" hafltime. Regardless, it's better news than had been reported previously.

But keep in mind this tweet came at 11, before it was reported that White would start.

interdasting.
Not really. 'Digital Content Manager' means social media director of Falcons. If they hear some doubt out there that he may not play, and want to counteract that tide to keep the decoy up, then the Twitter boss man tosses out some chum.

IOW, this means nothing.

I think we will see a lot of Steven Jackson out of the backfield today. White is high risk-high reward but this early in the season the safer route with a lower ranked wr might be the smart play.

I have White and I am sitting him and replacing him with Antonia Brown.

Unfortunately, my alternate option isn't as nice as A. Brown. I'd be looking at V. Brown, Hartline, or Hopkins, so I think I'll just roll with Roddy unless other news comes in the next few minutes.

Really wish I had drafted a TE, as I could switch my formation to 2 WRs instead of 4, and add a second RB and TE instead. Lesson learned: always be prepared to switch formations.

Going with Givens myself.

Won't be mad if Roddy blows up ....Would be mad if he is ineffective and I started him. You have to think they have enough weapons to not have to rely on him.

I just swapped White out for V. Brown. Not happy about it but I think V. Brown will have a nice day.

@JayGlazer Today was first time Roddy fully cut on ankle in 3 weeks. He's practiced limited this week. Giving it a go.

Just swapped him out for Sanu. Too much risk. When you start to hear 20% and high ankle sprain and "give it a go" etc., it is hard to not blink.

This is true, but if your next best option is Sanu, isn't it worth the high reward to just take the risk?

In PPR, I figure Sanu is a pretty good bet to at least put up 10 points. Difference between a donut and 10 points could easily be the win. I posted just so that other white owners could see how low another white owner was willing to go. Could be wrong. We'll see.
