Roddy White (1 Viewer)

With Vick out of the picture in Atlanta, I think it's worth reconsidering the Falcons WRs.

They suffered hugely from having Vick throwing them the ball.

With Harrington or someone else throwing it, however incompetently, they will almost certainly put up better numbers than before.

Someone has to benefit, and I like White's chances. He has fantastic speed, he's still raw, but he has more upside than Jenkins, while Horn has to be near the end.

Not saying he is going to be worth starting every week. But he might be one of those sleeper WRs who you can get for nothing in the summer and he might quietly emerge during the season.

Again, he is not going to set the world on fire. But he could be a useful candidate to get, say 7-800 yards and a few TDs.

I'm with you - absolutely a buy low candidate. Any time a first-round talent at WR moves from a scrambling QB who kills WR value, to a pocket guy like Harrington has to bump his value. I think most would agree he has the highest potential of all the Atlanta guys.

But I think we all want to see what Lelie, Jenkins and White can do when your QB isn't running 20 times a game and only looking at the TE.

Find the Roddy owner in your dynasty league and swipe him for a training camp fluke.

lelie is in san fran.talent wise, i think white is the best wr on the team.

I follow White because I own him in about 6 dynasty leagues. He is doing well in camp but still struggles with drops. The guy has always been able to get open. But God did not bless him with the best hands.

I think his hands hold him back from ever being a true go to WR in the NFL ...

I hope I am wrong.

White has been one of the better players in camp for the third straight year, maybe this means he'll actually be able to stave off the competition from Laurent Robinson this year. I hope not though, it takes a special type of receiver to finish among the top 20 in the league in drops while only starting 7 games in the most run-oriented offense in the entire league.

I didn't see the Falcons all that often last year, but every time I did, White seemed to be dropping balls that looked to be catchable. He seems to be able to get open, especially deep, so you wouldn't rule out a breakthrough year, but he needs to be able to hold on to the ball better from what I saw.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised to see R. White gets cut. He most likely won't but it wouldn't shock me.

I think him and Fred Gibson were competing for the last WR spot....luckily for White, Gibson got released.

Remember White makes a lot of money for a fourth WR.

The Joey Harrington I know is afraid to throw the ball down the field. I'd love to see Roddy bounce back with a pocket passer, but I won't get excited until they get a different QB. One would think Jake Plummer would be on the radar.

Roddy White is ranked ahead of Lee Evans in the top 250 forward this morning. Who would have thought. That being said, I doubt there is anybody that would give up Evans for White however.

With Lossman getting dinged up, Atlanta's running game and defense being bad, and Lefty coming to Atlanta, the inverse may also be true.

I think White is a very nice buy low candidate. His stock has risen even in the first three weeks of this season.

Petrino's arrival and Vick's departure both have to automatically increase his value. I respect Petrino's offensive ability, and his passing production goes to the WRs. The system and the QB - even Joey - are upgrades.

A key for White is Petrino not going WR in Round 1 of the '08 draft.

On pace for 80-1264-5, not that he'll keep that up. I like that he had 7 catches and 9 targets this week too, meaning he's more involved than just catching the occasional bomb as has been the case in the past.

It seems he's improving his concentration and the dropsies that have plagued him for years are starting to go away. IIRC He finally improved after being benched for Laurent so props to Petrino for that move.

I think Laurent will still play a decent amount. He's been in and out recently. The Falcs really seem to love this rook. Maybe Roddy puts Petrino in a spot where he's stuck finding time for Laurent but geesh is that a much desired "problem" for this team.

If you find a R White owner in any league turning down a trade offer for L Evans straight up, please let me know.

Saw this stat in the Fantasy Index...Petrino's only year as an NFL offensive coordinator was 2001 with JAX. That year their WRs led the league in receptions.

I have roddy white - I also have lee evans (another league).Sad to say, but Im not sure I would take evans RIGHT now if I needed to win this week. If I were 2-1 I would take evans. If I were 1-2 or worse, Ill stick with Roddy rather than banking on Edwards over the next two weeks. It's that bad up in Buffalo.

White, Jenkins and Crumpler all got about the same number of catches in week 3 so the verdict is still out on who is the primary target (White was 1-2 more than the others but about the same). Assume Crumpler until a differing trend develops. Until White proves he can catch 5+ balls each game consistently there is still very low probability that he can become a top 10 WR someday (just based on historical trends to date for him). As long as you value him as your #5 or #6 WR on your dynasty team depth chart you should be fine. If you're rolling the dice and counting on him as your #2 or #3 guy, you're WR corp is most likely going to be your team's weak point for a few years.

Historical may not mean a whole lot here. Historically White was a young WR (often take some time to bloom) in a run first, run second, run third, throw to crumpler fourth and overthrow the WR fifth team. To make matters worse, Vick was the one overthrowing him. Now, you have a coach who throws a ton and a QB who, while he is far from spectacular, does throw a better ball than Vick - with a strong armed QB waiting in the wings.History may not be the best judge of future performance in this case. If indeed Petrino keeps tossing the ball, and I expect he will an dperhaps will do so more as time goes on, then White could represent a decent play in 12+ team 3WR leagues.
