Roger Goodell - Like him or Dislike him as the Commissioner of NFL

Hes done a couple of Good things, and he brought on some terrible changes IMO.

Just want to see what everyone thinks before I get into it.

Ask me when we see how this labor issue works out. That's the test of a commissioner.

I think the handling of the Patriots spying revelation was laughably bad and that he has continued the tradition of NFL standing for no fun league to the detriment of the sport. Those are really minor issues in comparison to league-PA relations, though.

Disipline-10Other-5
Thats a good way of putting it.He cleaned up the off-flied problem the NFL was having, he did an outstanding job with that. But I think he got a little carried away with the fines, the special rules to protect the QBs are a bit much.Remember TD Celebrations.... they were usually funny.I hate when they play games outside of the country; any owner that agrees to have their team take a flight to London and give his team a short work week so they can go play Football on a soccer field and give up a home game does not care about their players. There is zero advantage in having your team do this and its clearly all about "how much money can we make."

1. The rules committee is as much or more involved in the QB protection stuff.2. There is plenty of advantage for all involved by expanding the sport of American football outside of this country. NFL Europe couldn't cut it, though. No one could honestly believe that putting minor league teams in Europe, Latin America, or Asia would significantly expand the sport. Ceding the world to soccer may be required... but basketball and baseball, especially? Football can own them, and should try. NFL must lead that charge.

Changed the draft time - Moving to Europe - Inconsistency in handling of off the field issues

Dislike may not be strong enough

Most of the TD celebrations were dumb. A few were amusing, but really? Sean Alexander pretending to change his baby's diaper complete with an ### wipe? They were asinine 90% of the time. I think they should allow TD celebrations if it involves at least 4 players other than the TD scorer.

It's not like I know him personally, but from afar he seems to have no sense of humor. People with no sense of humor scare me.

He also seems like a 'it's all black and white with no shades of gray' kind of guy. Those guys also scare me.

I love that he's trying to 'de-thug' the league. I love his hardline policy about showboating.

I agree that something needed to be done with the Cable-situation in Oakland. If that had been a player, he would have been suspended.

Definitly a "like" vote from me. :lmao:

I vote :lmao: for anyone supporting expansion, global expansion, team in London, Super Bowl in London, stupid rules, etc. etc. etc.

When the 1st round draft time was shortened it was great; but now that the Draft will start on a Thursday night is total Puke.

The Idea on holding a Superbowl in London on a Soccer field is awful. Why does this guy have a fetish with England?

I think there was also talk of having it in Tokyo; America's #1 sport to hold its biggest game of the year outside of America. The man want to Americanize the world.

And explain this one to me. Brandon Marshall gets acquitted of domestic abuse; the girlfriend at the time even wrote to the NFL that the charges were fake and it was all plot to get Money from Marshall however Marshall still got 1 game suspension with the threat of missing upto a whole season. Tom Cable beats his coaches and gets sexual harassment charges filed against and Roger did squat. Makes no sense.

Also, the fines that get handed out are sometimes outrageous; and the players have no ability to fight them. Hopefully a lot of this gets changed in the next CBA.

I don't like him. First, there was the whole Bellicheat controversy. Then it just seems like he is inconsistent in terms of discipline: if a player had broken another player's jaw I have no doubt he would have punished him severely but nothing happens to Tom Cable. Then there is the punishment of celebrations, which is also inconsistent and arbitrary. And finally the game is becoming less and less football: think of golden boy Brady and the play earlier in the year where he was barely touched and a roughing the passer penalty was called. It's football not flag football. I know people get hurt but they are making it really hard to play defense and again the enforcement is very arbitrary and biased to favor certain players and teams.

Ask Bud Admas about this.
The Patriots got off light.Tom Cable was ignored.I guess that makes him haphazard on discipline of coaches and management as well.

It's not a binary choice.

I like some of the policies he is implementing.

I despise some of the policies he is implementing.

the roughing the passer call on brady was the refs being terrible which has gotten really bad since goodell took over.

He's a tool of the owners who, as a group, are the ultimate bad guys in the system, not some poor dumb kid who has a small altercation with his babymama.

Mostly depends if there's a strike or lockout.
:) This current CBA negotiation is critical to his legacy, it will set the foundation for the future. One other area not mentioned yet is the handling of NFL Network and its lack of availability among certain cables companies. MNF/SNF ratings are three times as high as NFLN games, and this is due in large part to consumers not having access to NFLN content. I guess some may argue that scarcity creates demand, but not letting the public have access to a product seems counter productive and hurts growth IMHO.

He is terrible. He meddles when he shouldn't and turns a blind eye when he should intervene. His discipline often reeks of a double-standard. Sometims I think the NFL would be better with an empty suit like David Stern.

Ridiculous inconsistent player discipline system. (which the public and media eat up)

Totally bodacious globalization plans (which the public and media hate). I'd love it for the NFL to be the undisputed biggest sports league in the world.

Addressing concussions for the first time in the sports history is a major step forward for the league.

Officiating is a developing issue - full-time refs would be a necessity for the future. Guys should be able to rely on this as their profession. They should also be given advantages the viewer at home has. Extend the ability of replay officials. Why can the coaches ask for challenges, but the on-field officials can't review decisions to video?

Old man rules against celebrations and the like are lame but to be expected. They do nothing to grow the game, but are hugely successful in connecting with the old men who have been long-time fans and similarly out of touch with today's society.

Losing a first round draft pick is not getting off light.Has Cable been charged yet? I'll reserve judgement on that until there's a conviction. As I recall, Stallworth wasn't dealt with until after his hearing.

I voted like, because I believe he's done a lot for improving the league's image. I don't think he's personally responsible for some of the lamer rules changes. I don't like the England thing, but I do understand it.

"Like" could quickly turn to "DISLIKE" if he botches labor negotiations though.

Love him. He doesn't take any crap in a world full of super stars. All of those egos in the NFL need a least one guy who can bring down the hammer if need be and he's that guy. He's made the NFL better since he's been there. If those guys screw up, they know they're going to pay a penatly.

Goodell talks about integrity, but yet he allows teams to intentionally and blatantly work around the injury reports. That is a joke.
I know that's important to us and I'm not saying it shouldn't be corrected but my opinion is if that's the worst thing you can think of with something as huge as the NFL is and how many areas he's responsible for, he's doing a heck of a job.

Cable's not going to be charged, that's already decided. The assistant coach had a broken jaw from an altercation with Cable. The NFL's looking the other way about that.

The other problems have already been mentioned. I really don't think Goodell is that bad. I just wanted to mention this because Goodell talks about integrity and lets this go. I also think Goodell will be judged by the upcoming labor negotiations.

didn't stop him from punishing Marshall before his trail and no-conviction; Goodell owns Marshall a game check IMO.
