Have you noticed that the Cleveland Browns are interested in Herman Edwards’ old quarterback? And we do mean old.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel made it clear that he’s ready to call Vinny Testaverde, 42, if Ken Dorsey doesn’t make the most of his opportunity to back up Charlie Frye.

came across this on the Chiefs site. Maybe someone can post a Browns link

QB Testaverde To Be Brought In?

Tom Reed, Akron Beacon Journal - [Full Article]

Coach Crennel hinted that he may bring in former QB Vinny Testaverde to back up Charlie Frye this year. "I have a guy in mind who knows the system," Crennel said. "He might be a little older than I am but he can still line up... (Testaverde) could come in on (a) Friday and, boom, be good to go on Sunday." LINK - Scroll Down

i'm not sure i'm comfortable with Frye being backed up by Testaverde, but i guess it's becoming clear that offense isn't a priority on this team.

From a mentor standpoint, I think he'd be great for Frye.I remember reading something about how Testaverde turned down NYG before they signed Warner because he didn't want to start in the NFL anymore, he just wanted to be a backup....

Guess thats why they draft Braylon Edwards top 5, traded for Reuben Droughns, signed Joey J, signed LeCharles Bentley, and signed Kevin Shaffer over the last two years.

Edwards is hurt, they let Bryant go and replace him with JJ, they trade Dilfer for Dorsey. i guess i should have been clearer: passing the ball is not a top priority for this team.

I dont understand. What is it they have done that makes you say, "Man, they sure don't want to throw the ball."They've added WRs in the 1st and 3rd round the last two years, and let a malcontent in Bryant go, and replaced him with Joey J. And they'll also get Winslow back this year, so the need to go out and get more WRs was alot less evident.

So is it just that they traded Dilfer? Obviously they would have wanted to keep Dilfer around, but the rift between he and Mo Carthon seemed too big to be fixed, and they were forced to dump him for what they could get.

I dont see how wanting to bring in a QB who has been in the league for 20 years as a tutor for their young franchise QB makes them uninterested in the passing game.

:lmao: I'm sure offense isn't a priority for any team that has an injured star. I'd rather have Vinny mentoring Frye than Dilfer. In case anybody missed it, Vinny has had a pretty good career and experienced ups and downs. Somehow he learned enough to make a good career from one that started horribly. I'm hoping he can pass some of that experience on to Frye.

Anyone who thinks signing Vinny is a sign that the Browns don't care about offense doesn't have a clue.

just because they were "forced" to get rid of Dilfer doesn't mean they can't sign a capable backup QB.i don't remember reading a single article about Bryant being a malconent.

and if Testaverde wants to be a tutor, hire him as a QB coach, or assistant or something.

:lmao: I'm sure offense isn't a priority for any team that has an injured star.
what? all i'm saying is that they had a need at WR which could have been filled by resigning their own guy, and they let him walk and signed a career WR3 guy to replace him.

There were several, Ill see if I can find one.

He can still play, and hes likely better than anything left on the market. I dont see the problem here

Joey J has started far more games than Antonio Bryant has in his career.

i hope this isn't the part where i suggest some free agents and then you tell me about the holes in their game. because that's why they are still free agents. i'm just not sold on Vinny.

ok, but i meant that Bryant fits the WR1 mold a lot better than JJ.

They don't need JJ to be a #1 WR, they need him to be consistent and a good leader on an otherwise young team. When healthy, Edwards and Winslow will provide the spark, they need JJ to keep the spark going. He fits the team much better than the malcontent Bryant.

i don't think it is a priority. i think they're focusing on the defense, and with teams like Baltimore and Pittsburgh in their division, it's probably a sound strategy.

i really don't remember anything about Bryant being a malcontent while in Cleveland.

the only thing i remember hearing was that he wanted decent money to stay, and i can't blame him.

They do seem to be focusing on defense, so if that's all you mean, cool.Vinny would be a good signing for Crennel.
