Ron Dayne cut (1 Viewer)

In keeping with the "you'll know what we know" vein. Word out of Dove Valley is that Ron Dayne has been cut. He has not been seen out at the complex this afternoon. I am checking on this and will update soon.

Apparently he is now DENVER SPECTATOR 1 in the old Tecmo Bowl, and DENVER SPECTATOR 1 is not worth drafting.

He'll find a job. Where is the question. The obvious guess is Houston, but I'm not so sure. MIA, NYJ, PIT, IND, & GBP are all possibilities, IMO.

Certainly not definitive, but:

While the winner of the competition remains difficult to gauge, the clear loser was Ron Dayne. The leading candidate to start to open the preseason, Dayne warmed up after missing two games because of turf toe but never was given a chance to play. Teams have to get down to 53-player rosters by 4 p.m. Saturday but cuts are expected today. Dayne appears headed for that list.
From today's Rocky Mountain News.

I feel bad for the people who bought into the Dayne hype this offseason. Sounds like the turf toe injury really wrecked his chances though.

it has been confirmed that Dwayne Carswell has been cut. I'm still digging on Dayne.
:(

I'm assuming Eslinger is getting put on the Practice Squad. Have you heard anything to the contrary?

Eslinger was one of the highest rated Centers in the draft. What happened here? Wasn't he a 4th rounder? Practice Squad?
He was a 6th or 7th rounder, and is likely to be put on the practice squad. It's common practice for Denver's developmental OLs.

Broncos | Dayne may have been waivedPublished Fri Sep 1 7:01:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos RB Ron Dayne, who is expected to be released Saturday, Sept. 2, briefly visited team headquarters Friday, Sept. 1, but drove away without speaking to reporters. His agent said he hadn't heard about his client's status.

Bets on:

1) How long it will be until someone picks up Dayne

2) How long it will be after someone picks up Dayne, that someone claims that he has great potential and was just misused in New York and Denver

You can now go back and find humor in all those spring threads that hyped up Dayne over Bell . . .

6th round pick . . .
Way way too small for the NFL, even for Denver. This will probably make Pony Boy very sad though.
Wow. Cant believe it either. I thought he was supposedly the 'perfect fit' denver's ZBS. Youre right on about his size- one of the shortest and the lightest Center taken in the draft. In a Man blocking system, he'd be swallowed by DT/NTs. In other words, if Denver does not put him on the PS, he has no future unless he heads to another ZBS team like IIRC KC. Confirmed: Quote from NFL.com scouting report
Additionally, when he has no one to block, he helps the other offensive linemen and will crush the defensive linemen they are blocking with a very hard hit from the side. Overall, Eslinger is not ideal for every NFL team, but for teams like Kansas City and Denver who need their offensive linemen to be quick and athletic more than strong and physical, he will become a good starting center. However, if he ends up going to a team that asks him to be a strong at the point of attack, he will really struggle and will get pushed around.

Man I really hope Mike Bell solidifies his starting role and keeps it for the next few years. Just so there won't be this rb mess every freaking year.

Cecil,

Nice job on AM 950. I am a Denver homer and have been listening to AM 950 for a LONG time. Can't wait for you to get your own show! I see you following in Adam Schefter's steps! Keep up the good work.

I guess it's ok to hang on to Dayne to see where he lands, but if it isn't good, he's one step closer to the WW in most leagues. Thank goodness I only have him in 1 league and I don't have to worry about cut downs in that league. Then again, I'm sure you could give a rats a-r-s-e about that.

This is all so very 2004. Game over man, game over.

I disagree. Dayne does have value. Much value? no. But there are several teams that could use him. I own him in no leagues, do not particularly like Daybe, nor wish to acquire him, but he would easily be the RB on several teams at the present ... and injuries will only make that moreso.

Good call. Thank god there are literate people on this board. Otherwise I'd have to hang out at ESPN.com.

Antowain Smith > Ron Dayne.

maybe so, but both are better than Miami RB2, Fargas, Arlen Harris, among others, imo

Pretty much every team in the league has at least two backs with career YPC higher than Dayne, including Oakland, Detroit, and Miami.

At what point in time will the phrase "fat tub of goo" begin creeping its way into Ron Dayne threads again?
