Rookie CB's (1 Viewer)

Interested in getting some thoughts from the shark pool on the relative merits of these 2nd-3rd rd CB's taken in this years draft.

Chevis Jackson, Terrence Wheatley, Brandon Carr and Terrell Thomas.

Jackson seems the most likely to get early playing time at this point (at least based on the reports I've read) but it sounds like Carr is a fave of Edwards in KC already. Thomas appears to be in a very crowded situation and I have no idea at all what is going on with the Pats DB's these days.

Carr is the nickel already in KC and, as you say, is loved by Herm Edwards. I don't know how deep of a dynasty you'd have to be in to consider him, but do so at some point. He's big and fast, and in terms of value there's good upside there.

All are going to get snaps at some point, and probably soon. None definitely fit the mold of a long-term value, though. Maybe a CB2-3 with some noise around their big weeks, but I don't think any is more likely than the other to be a consistent weekly option. You've got the right group picked out to watch, though. I'm also interested in these guys, especially Carr and Wheatley.

Good group of prospects listed, I'm a big Chevis fan. Another to keep an eye on, Antwaun Molden.

Dwight Lowery.... pushing both Miller and Barret hard to start opposite Revis. Could be in the safety rotation as well. He doesn't have clock speed, but he has football quicks and a nose for the ball, something Mangini loves to see.

The NY Daily news reported that Lowery was working with the 1's at Jets camp today... I project him and Revis to be the week 1 starters at CB.

I like Molden also. If memory serves, Reeves didn't play very well last week. Haven't heard anything lately on Robinson. He'll start the year on the PUP for sure. He may be ready after the bye (8), I have my doubts. That sure was a nasty injury, tore knee up and I think he tore hamstring off the bone... ouch.

Not a true ROOKIE, but Brandon McDonald should get similar numbers as a rookie CB. Many are always looking for the Rookie CB because they get thrown at often, which leads to higher numbers. He's starting and playing opposite of Eric Wright in CLE. CLE CB's have been putting up some very consistant #'s over the past few years.

I like Carr and Lowery the most for this year. It appears both could start and they will be targeted by QBs.
The Star Ledger reports New York Jets CB Justin Miller seems to have won the right cornerback job over CB David Barrett, who is playing mainly in nickel and dime packages. Rookie CB Dwight Lowery continues to impress.
This sounds more inline. Although Lowery has perfomed well, I doubt they throw him into the fire right away. He most likely will eventually become the #3 CB during the season. Maybe he's the #2 next season.

Trust me on this one.... seriously... trust me... Miller is ahead of Barrett, but Lowery is moving ahead of Miller. Miller is NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer, although he has all the physical tools. Lowery covers and comes up for tackles the way Mangini wants from a CB, while Miller still free lances too much and still doesn't get the coverage scheme responsibilities he has in the scheme. Add the fact that Lowery not only had a college history for having a nose for the ball, he has continued that trait into the next level, the NFL, albeit preseason, and Mangini LOOOOVES that.

Lowery will be ahead of Miller or will be spliting the snaps... Miller is a good Nickle CB, were Lowery is going to develop into a good starter next to Revis. Toss in farva putting up points and forcing other teams to score... this is going to be a good yr for Jet DBs.

Brandon Carr played well. Wouldn't know the tackle numbers without looking them up but he covered well and had a pick.
isn't flowers starting though?
Yes, but Carr is already the third corner, and there's a lot of talk that he is going to be hard to keep out of the starting lineup, especially with Surtain's age. Based on the ugly LB situation, I like the value of all KC's DBs. Carr should get himself in on a lot plays along with Flowers. Both have been very active in run support so far this preseason, especially Flowers, who had four solos in about a half of action Saturday.
