There's a couple of DeAngelo Williams highlight films. After watching these and the Addai one, I'll be keeping a barf :X bucket by my desk for every time I see Addai going before DeAngelo.

I'm actually impressed with Addai on the video. He demonstrated incredible power and got tough yards after the catch. He showed breakaway speed. He made some hard cuts and beat guys, although not the elusiveness you see in the Bush clips. All in all, I think he could look superb in a Colts offense that creates alot of room for such a speedy and powerful back to get a head of steam and get yards.Joseph Addai-

That's all well and good, but these people are watching the video and saying based specifically on that that they weren't impressed. As for your mention of Martin, etc that doesn't really seem to apply here since Addai does something in almost every one of those clips that several of the other more flashy rookies seem to struggle with....that is he falls forward every single time and gets those couple extra yards. The problem is that highlights are just that- highlights. There are a number of starting backs in the league that don't have imprssive highlights: Curtis Martin (even two years ago rarely broke a 25 yard run), Reuben Droughns, Mike Anderson, Domanick Davis, etc. that rarely do anything jaw dropping. However, they consistently gain yardage and keep down and distance managable.
My point, that you seem to have missed, is that people looking for flashy highlights can miss out on successful backs. Martin applies because he is a non-flashy, limited highlight extremely productive back. My goodness... the Moroney highlight is horrible. Either they got his worst, most elementary-looking runs, or what I've suspected about him all along is true: the guy is not an elite runner. No serious moves, very upright style, not terrific speed. Bring on DeAngelo.here it is, enjoy. (i just found the blog, it's not mine)

I had the exact opposite opinion of Maroney's clip, particularly the last half of it. To me he looks noticeably stronger and faster than DeAngelo, while DeAngelo jukes a little better in open field. My goodness... the Moroney highlight is horrible. From what I see- it's pure speed with him. He may block well, have great hands, etc. but it does not appear that he has any shiftiness. His combine vaulted him up the charts and no because he's in a solid situation, he's being taken above other backs. I think it's a mistake. He seems awkward and hesitant when he has to change directions.
I'm from Minnesota, and was really dissappointed with his running style all year, despite his stats. I really wonder if he can transfer his game to the NFL.
Without a doubt, he has a lot of work to do.

Heh, he brings up a good point though. I was just about to respond to Addai not having shiftiness by mentioning that even his supposed lack of shiftiness is far more than Maroney has. And anyone that wants to bring up power need only watch Addai carry those 6 defenders from a defense that hovered around the nation's top 5 all year long (Florida).I think he was talking about Addai. From what I see- it's pure speed with him.
