Rookie starters (1 Viewer)

Jarrett should start from Day 1 in Philly, and will be surprised if he doesn't. He has the potential to be the best and most complete safety in the draft. Like many others, I see a young Brian Dawkins. On another note, Reid has the touch at the S position. They're productive every year. I think Coleman will be the 3rd safety & will probably see the field, at times, with Allen & Jarrett.

Other IDP guys I like:

Nate Irving - Sideline to sideline range and he's smooth and athletic. He could start in the middle, but I think he's more likely to initially line-up as the WLB. If and when DJ Williams moves on, he'll slide to the middle.

Mason Foster - He's versatile & is a tackling machine. I think he starts from Day 1, but a lot of his IDP success will initially depend on what happens with Ruud. Regardless, he's worth a roster spot with year 1 LB2 potential. If Ruud is gone, he could easily produce LB1 numbers.

Marcus Gilchrist - I think he has a lot of value. If they let Weddle walk, it will only increase. He doesn't have the best ball skills, but he's a gamer and is always around the ball.

I can think of several more, but those are a few I'm keeping tabs on.

Hang on a sec here.
Yeah, I spoke to soon...or wrote. At this point in his career, I guess we can only say they were both drafted by the Eagles in the 2nd round. I don't know if he'll ever come close to Dawkins, but I really do think he has a lot of potential to be a solid contributor in IDP leagues. His tackling skills are terrific and his ball skills aren't half bad either. Even though his 40 (4.62) wasn't that great, he has good agility (6.95 3-Cone) and decent explosion (1.54 10 yard) for an in-the-box safety. I don't remember what Dawkins ran, but I want to say it was in the 4.3s....I'm probably wrong and I'm not sure where I'm pulling that from. Maybe someone else will know because I'd be interested to find out.

On coach Reid’s comparison of Jarrett to former Eagles S Brian Dawkins: "That’s a privilege just to be compared to such a caliber player like Brian Dawkins; one of the greatest to ever play the game. It’s just a privilege to be known that someone considers that highly of you."

On whether he ever watched Dawkins play while he was with the Eagles: "Yes. I always enjoyed watching Brian Dawkins play. [He’s] a very physical, intimidator and was an enforcer."

On Dawkins running a 4.65 40-yard dash at the combine: "See that says a lot about a 40. He might not be the fastest but a great football player."

On his ability to make contact and support the run: "I love being physical as a safety coming from Temple where we ran a Cover 2 defense. The safeties – we had to show up in run support and we had to be violent and physical in the secondary and you have to be great in pass coverage. And I think that’s exactly what I showed throughout my collegiate career and I’m going to bring that to the Eagles."

On whether he played up at the line exclusively or played in center field to: "We played different varieties of coverage’s; I was in the pose, I was in the half field, I was up close to the line of scrimmage. So I’m really accustomed to playing every different coverage."

On whether he ever modeled himself after a particular player: "Growing up I always modeled [former Oakland Raider defensive back] Jack Tatum. He was always known as the ‘assassin’ being the enforcer on the field. And that’s what I love doing."

On how he became familiar with Tatum: "Watching ESPN growing up. They always showed the classic games of Jack Tatum always punishing somebody and it’s inspiring."

Thanks for the useful information. I'm looking for big things from the rookie. Now, if they could only get in camp....

Me too. A reporter at CBS said they may be getting somewhere. Like individual contracts they goof off for months but when they finally get down to talking can resolve things pretty quickly(I hope they are talking for real). @realfreemancbsmike freemanMultiple sources continue to tell me a deal could be struck between owners and players before 8th circuit rules in July.
