Rookie Wide Receivers - Best situations? (1 Viewer)

Which Rookie Wide Receivers are in the best situations to start and/or long term?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Aside from Jackson, Holmes and Moss...Brandon Marshall could be the #2 behind Javon Walker as soon as 2007...Also Hixon will be given every chance Marshall gets to succeed (could be #3)

Greg Jennings could be the #2 in GB by the end of 2006. Might be a stretch but Ferguson, Gardner both have issues (health, character respectively), and nobody else they have is more talented. Cory Rodgers could be in the same situation as Hixon.

Demitrius Williams may be this years Vincent Jackson. Shouldnt get many opps behind Mason, Clayton and Heap. Has the talent to emerge someday, but I don't think it'll be during his initial rookie contract.

Mo Stovall's emergence might depend on Mike Clayton's ability to come back from a dreadful 2005. Also depends on Simms development. Not this year.

Travis Wilson / Derek Hagan / Brandon Williams- All in nice situations without alot of talent surrounding them at WR. All have about the same potential to emerge sometime in 2007 or 2008.

Last one I'll mention is a bit of a sleeper, but Martin Nance might have a shot to be the Bills #2 by the end of 2006. He'd have to jump a host of characters including Josh Reed, Roscoe Parrish, Peerless Price and Andre Davis. But none of these guys are exactly the next great #2 WR.

Edit:

Problem with all these guys.... all except Hagan have (or will have) a very unproven QB. Williams may have McNair throwing him balls, but he may not be in Baltimore long term unless Mason hangs em up in a year or two. Jennings has Favre, but for how long?

long term, they're all really in the same spot, they are going to have to earn their job and play and practice well enough to deserve it. I dont think any of the WRs drafted were drafted to be their teams eventual #1.

For this year, Greg Jennings has the best chance to be relevant for fantasy, followed by Derek Hagan, and Jason Avant. Chad Jackson and Santonio Holmes could also make a splash.

Greg Jennings is a poor man's Marvin Harrison IMO and is in a situation to battle for WR#2 in an offense that will throw the ball more than they probably should.

He reminded me alot of Harrison against MAC defenses. He cut in and out of rounds extremely well and caught balls effortlessly. But, that was against the MAC. Against NFL db's, who knows how good he is. I think he has a chance to be extremely good.

I like Jennings and Chad Jackson.

Jackson will never have the pressure of being the 1st rounder now and has a solid QB. Jennings has the QB and not much competition.

Yup, that Rothlisberger kid and that Randy Moss kid and that Culpepper kid all got fat on the MAC and failed HORRIBLY in the Big Show.KALAMAZOO IN DA HOUSE!!!!

Hard to believe no one is mentioning Brandon Williams when the starting WRs in SF are Antonio Bryant & Arnaz Battle, and the current #3 WR is Bryan Gilmore.

Opportunity, opportunity, opportunity.

Late round sleeper pick Mike Hass - New Orleans - not very much competition there. I could see him emerging next year or if he does really well in training camp maybe see some good action this year and if Brees arm heals - any NO wide receiver should have value. My 2 cents

I'd love to take credit for CPep (EMU grad), but he never played in the MAC.Pennington, Frye, Leftwich, Ben, Moss, Watts, Doug Gabriel, Charlie Batch...

Bruce Gradkowski, QB, TB (Toledo)

Omar Jacobs, QB, PIT (Bowling Green)

Tony Scheffler, TE, DEN (WMU)

Domenik Hixon, WR, DEN (Akron)

Martin Nance, WR, BUF (Miami-OH)

Are you sure UCF wasn't in the MAC when Culpepper played there?

 UCF was in the MAC from 2002-2004, While Culpepper was destroying the NFC North.

:goodposting: I am an Oregon homer and Hass played Highschool ball locally as well. I also think Hass is in a great postion with Horn getting long in the tooth and Stallworth underperforming every year.

Mike has the uncanny ability to seperate from the defender and had great body positioning that enable him to make the catch. Throughout his carrer he has been underestimated by defenses and has burned them.

I doubt anyone will be looking to draft him in most leagues but I could see him showing up on the waiver wires pretty quick during the season if he gets the opportunity to play.

Good writeup, and worthwhile mention of Nance. Those who don't follow college football may not know that Nance was Roethlisberger's WR, and put up an eye-popping 90-1498-11 in 2003, Ben's senior year. In 2004 Nance had an ACL tear, but in 2005 came back with 87-1107-14. WRs typically aren't at 100% the year after an ACL, so the numbers could have been better. As Aposulli said, Nance is a name worth remembering in Buffalo over the next couple of years given the underwhelming WRs now vying for the spot opposite Lee Evans.
