Has anybody noticed that all the nations listed have had fascist or nationalist movements (the French under de Gaulle) and/or wars or governments in the past 100 years? 

Spain, Argentina, Portugal, France, et. al.

Just meant that it seems we are slowly starting to become good company with your observation. That would take this to the PSF though.

Side thought, how long do we have to exist as a country before people start to see their roots as being American? How many more generations? Are we always going to be seen and see ourselves as a land of newcomers from the old world?

Yeah, I got that. I think maybe this is PSF stuff, too. I just get weirded out when I see the tagline of rooting for the homeland when the homelands have all been fascist/nationalist at one point, especially since it's a come-on to the USA viewers.
