Rooting for your "2nd favorite" team (1 Viewer)

Spartans Rule

Ok, a little background here: I'm a die-hard Lions fan. Always have been, always will be. There isn't any circumstance where I would root for another team over the Lions for any reason. So this isn't really an issue of bandwagon jumping.

However, while I was living in Michigan a few years ago, our primary CBS affiliate was out of Indiana, so the Colts games were always on. I would watch them when the Lions weren't on, and I started to admire Manning's play and the high-caliber offense. I began rooting for them a little, but their wins and losses didn't really have any emotional effect on me.

Then, before this past NFL season started, I moved to Indiana. People here are crazy about the Colts, and I'm surrounded by their fans everywhere I go. I spent much of this past NFL season at a sports bar, watching the Lions on a little TV in the corner while the Colts were on eight big screens with audio. It was hard not to glance over every now and then.

So now I'm really beginning to enjoy the Colts playoff run, but I don't want to violate any fan codes and go too far with it. So where's the boundary here? Can I purchase Colts merchandise? Can I get loud and obnoxious cheering for them? Is it acceptable to display Colts homerism in the Shark Pool? Help me out.

I will sit here all day and pull for the Bears (My 2nd Fav) while dressed top to bottom in Steeler stuff. I could understand the desire since you are a Lions fans, but you must resist purchasing Colts merchandise. It is not right.

I think buying stuff about your 2nd favorite team would be going a little too far, because if you REALLY love your favorite team, then you shouldn't even care enough at all about the #2 to buy stuff. Personally, my #2 team (if I had to choose one) would be the Rams... but I don't really buy any Rams merchandise. And hell, when the Steelers play the Rams next year, I'll still be rooting 100% for the Steelers and will be PO'ed if they lose.

I don't know. I've been a Dolphins fan since I was little and own some dolphin stuff, but I also root for the Bengals since they are the home team. I don't own any Bengals stuff though.

also a lions fans, but due to my fantasy team this year i've been rooting for the saints a lot (colston and bush). i'll be cheering hard for them today and again if they make the super bowl. after the season ends ends though, i'm back to being a lowly lions fan.

Same here. #1 Lions, #2 Cowboys/Colts

i disagree. I'm a life long diehard Skins fan, and grew up in NC (that was the only team that you could see every weekend). But when the Panthers were born, they became my second favorite team, and I try to watch them every weekend too. While I won't cheer for the Panthers over the Skins, i'll scream like crazy for the Panthers against everyone else. And yeah, i have no problem wearing a Panthers t-shirt or hat (even though I don't own any) Oh, and next year, Skins and Panthers will be playing in this same NFC title game. :goodposting:

:goodposting: I have three teams I root for:

1. Da Bears

3 Eagles (the 'home town' team)

I have three Bears jerseys (Urlacher, 'my name', and throwback Sweetness), a throwback Elway jersey and a replica McNabb to wear to Eagles games. I see nothing wrong with rooting for that many teams, but Chicago will always be my first priority.
