Roscoe Parrish..Just a slot, or future Steve Smith (1 Viewer)

All I heard during his rookie training camp was that he was uncoverable, then he got injured. I don't think Price is the future for the Bills, and Reed lacks the speed and agility to be anything more than a mediocre possesion receiver. So is Roscoe the future #2 in Buffalo, or is he destined to be a slot and return man?

His draft bio from SI:

Roscoe Parrish Grade: 3.46

Position: WR

Class: Jr

School: Miami (FL)

Conference: ACC

Ht., Wt.: 5-9.5, 168

40 Time: 4.4

Selected by: Buffalo Bills

Round 2, pick 23 (55 overall) Grading System

BIO: Second-team All-Conference choice last season after breaking into the starting lineup and leading the team with 43/693/8. Also averaged 16.2 yards on 20 punt returns with two more scores. Sophomore numbers included 24/322/2 with a 13.4 average on 25 punt returns.

POSITIVES: Small, yet explosive skill player with homerun hitting abilities. Quickly releases off the line, immediately gets to top speed and stretches the field vertically. Sells routes and fakes out opponents with his quickness. Gets separation, comes back to the pass and adjusts to the errant throw. Looks the ball into his hands and very quick transitioning from making the reception to running after the catch. Easily makes the difficult over the shoulder catch running full speed. Gets vertical and extends skyward to pull the throw from the air. Makes the tough reception in a crowd.

NEGATIVES: Does not display strong hands. Undersized, will have difficulty handling the jam at the next level and not a heavy-duty wideout that can take a pounding.

ANALYSIS: Speed being his greatest asset, Parrish has the abilities to be a third receiver in the NFL and a game-impacting punt returner.

PROJECTION: Early Fifth Round

I like Parrish's speed, but he has yet to show me that he can be a polished route runner in the NFL, where all db's have recovery speed. His concentration needs work. He also needs to show a lot more toughness to be considered in that Steve Smith/productive smurf receiver category. He's Darius Watts with better hands.

:2cents:

He's Darius Watts with better hands.
Was Watts as fast as Parrish (4.4)?I like the offense the Bills are building, they are a couple of OL and a possession WR away from being a playoff caliber team. Parrish fills his stretch-the-field role well, and Losman throws a decent deep ball. Roscoe needs quite a bit of polish to be mentioned with SS. Steve Smith is a once in a generation type wide receiver.

similar player as donte hall - needs to add a little bulk while retaining quickness to become steve-smith like

Looks like 'Sco is about a 1/2 step faster.Watts draft profile from SI:DARIUS WATTS Position: WR Class: SrSchool: Marshall Conference: MAC Ht., Wt.: 6'1½, 18840 Time: 4.45Grade: 3.54Selected by Denver Broncos Round 2, pick 22 (54 overall) BIO: All-conference selection every season since his sophomore campaign. Suffered with a leg injury as a senior but still posted 74/968/11 after 71/1,030/12 the prior year. Exploded onto the national stage posting 91/1,417/18 as a sophomore in 2001.POSITIVES: Explosive pass-catcher that breaks games wide open when focused. Quick route runner that gets separation from defenders, adjusts to the oncoming throw and displays good eye-hand coordination. Plays much faster than his 40 time and has the ability to switch it on then run away from opponents down the field. Tracks the deep ball or gets vertical to make the acrobatic reception. Uses the sidelines well and elusive running after the reception. Instinctive wide out that finds the open spot on the field or gets past the yard markers on third down.NEGATIVES: Continually lets the pass get inside him and cradles it against his body. Does not always come away with the tough grab in traffic. Lazily rounds off his routes at times.ANALYSIS: Not known as a tough receiver willing to do the extras to make himself a better player, Watts has the underlying skills to be an explosive receiver at the next level should he decide to take his game to the next level.PROJECTION: Early Fourth Round ------------------------------------------------------------------------------I loved Watts' quickness, but his lack of hands cost him his job. He could get open against Champ Bailey almost at will. However, he would then drop a pass right in the bread basket. :shrugs:I agree that 'Sco needs quite a bit of shine. He's a raw athlete with playmaking ability. I don't see him ever becoming more than a slot receiver.

Dante Hall comparison is a fairly good one. Parrish has elite quickness and excellent speed. He's just slightly built. Unless/until he bulks up to take the pounding of a fulltime receiver, he'll only be a situational player on offense and an above-average punt/kick returner.

The post and the title are, as they say, inconsistent.
Roscoe Parrish..Just a slot, or future Steve Smith, Bills fans, what's his potential?
Price has looked better in Buffalo this year than he had in Atlanta, he's the #2.
