Roscoe Parrish out 4-6 weeks (thumb surgery) (1 Viewer)

Buffaloes

I took a flier on him this week in a return yardage league. I watched the Seattle game and he seems to have some promise as a WR. Any Bills fans or anyone in the know have any idea how the Bills have been using him in the offense? I guess Josh Reed is still the starter and Hardy will get a lot of the red zone looks. But Parrish might be a sneaky play this week against the Rams who will probably be punting a lot and have an awful defense.

 I thought for sure he would be on the WW article this week. He's not going to be a top wr, but may be worthy of a start in deeper leagues through the bye weeks.

Great punt returner, but anything you get from him as a WR will be a bonus. I'd say 2 or 3 catches and 30 yards with very few TDs.

This is a big blow to a defense that looked to be one of fantasy's biggest surprises after Week 1. But lackluster performances against the Jags and Raiders and now this may be lowering their stock.

From RotoWorld:

Roscoe Parrish will miss the next 4-6 weeks because of thumb surgery.

Very disappointing after Parrish was off to the best start of his four-year career as a slot receiver. He's also an electric punt returner. Don't assume James Hardy will play a ton more now because Justin Jenkins will get snaps in the slot. Leodis McKelvin will likely take over on punt returns.

Titans are on my WW, gonna see if I can get them and drop the Bills. I loved Parrish in there as he was always a threat to add points.

PARRISH OUT FOR 4-6 WEEKS

Posted by Mike Florio on September 24, 2008, 3:22 p.m.

Our pal Brad Riter of WECK in Buffalo tells us that Bills coach **** Jauron has disclosed that receiver Roscoe Parrish will miss four-to-six weeks due to surgery on his thumb to repair an injured ligament.

It sounds a lot like the injury that has sidelined Saints receiver Marques Colston.

Parrish was the AFC’s special teams player of the week for Week One of the 2008 season. He has seven catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Hello James Hardy......

This is a big blow to a defense that looked to be one of fantasy's biggest surprises after Week 1. But lackluster performances against the Jags and Raiders and now this may be lowering their stock.
I disagree that this is a 'big blow' as others have already mentioned McKelvin is a capable replacement. I wasn't disappointed with the Bills defense's performance against the Jaguars nearly as much as I was against the Raiders. That said, the Rams are up next and should be just what the doctor ordered. :goodposting:

Hardy has been far from impressive so far (the one TD catch aside), and he's pretty much the exact opposite of Roscoe Parrish in terms of size and skill set. I'm not liking this at all as a Bills fan.

in 3WR sets, I'm assuming Hardy will line up outside and Reed will move to the slot. Not ideal, but they should be alright as Parrish wasn't really a huge part of the offense. Hardy hasn't had much of an opportunity for significant playing time yet so this is a good time to see what he can do. They can also go with Justin Jenkins if Hardy struggles.

REPLACING PARRISH: While **** Jauron said he anticipates James Hardy having a greater role in the offense with Parrish down for the next 4-6 weeks, I also see Justin Jenkins being a factor as well provided the game plan calls for some spread looks.

If this week's game plan is largely three-wide then Hardy will likely be lining up more than Jenkins on the outside. In four-wide looks I expect to see Jenkins in the slot with Josh Reed.

I talked to Jenkins in the locker room after practice today and he confirmed for me that he got an awful lot of work in the slot today.

"I got a lot of work in practice today and I'm supposed to tomorrow," said Jenkins. "You never know when it's going to be your turn, but I'm looking forward to it."

This just means Josh Reed plays the slot, which is where he belongs anyway. Hardy is about to get a crash course at the Flanker position in the NFL.

McKelvin is great depth and is actually better on Punts than Kicks. Parrish is a game changer though and Mckelvin did make a few rookie fielding mistakes in pre-season. Hopefully Parrish is back in 4 weeks but Derek Fine has the same injury and is still trying to heal from it.

Hardy and Reed will have to step in. I think Justin Jenkins will get some slot work as well.

I think this will hurt Evans initially. Evans is typically double covered the entire game. The only openings he gets are when Parrish or Reed get open underneath & draw coverage away from him. Reed won't garner as much respect from opposing D's underneath, because he's not a homerun threat like Parrish.

But- Once Hardy is able to log regular playing time, his size & athleticism alone will draw coverage & free up Evans a bit. But that is a work in progress.
