>>ROTO STRATEGY EXPERIMENT<< (The One Strat™) (1 Viewer)

Not Allowed In Mexico
Hey guys, I usually don't come to the forums for trade advice, but this one has me on the fence. I actually want to make this trade and would end up putting Chris Duncan in my OF for Abreu.

It's not like Abreu is going to hit bombs in the OF this season. I can place Reyes in the SS slot and find a power OF (Duncan) to replace Abreu.

I also think the recent hammy cramp has me a little uneasy..

any help is MUCH appreciated.. What would be the shark move here?

14 Man 5x5: (redraft auction)

FWIW.. I don't need pitching so I won't miss Clemens.

TIA :hey:

Reyes wanted to play last night but Willie held him out. I wouldn't worry too much about his hammy.

With that said, you're giving up an awful lot for Jose. It just seems like too much to me. Can you at least get something else back with Reyes?

Anytime you can land a top 2-3 player, I think you gotta do it, especially if you are not going to miss Clemens. Unless the injury to Reyes is much worse than announced, I'd make the deal.

You ALWAYS need pitching... Why don't you list your pitchers?
Honestly? well.. this league has been around since '89 and never put any innings pitched minimums on the rulebook. So I decided to throw W's/K's and use my whole cap on hitting and a couple good closers. My Pitching Staff looks like this..SP-Roger Clemens :lmao: SP-Jose' Acevedo  SP-Francisco Liriano  CL- Street, Putz, Wheeler, Soriano, Otuska, A Reyes (can start 2CL/3SP or 1CL/4SP)looks funny, but it has me in a tie in 1st place. ;) ...#1 in WHIP & ERA, #2 in Saves, last in W's & K's. But I'm ranked #3 in overall pitching points.

wow - interesting setup.Jose Acevedo? :lmao: Is he still in the game? Didnt' he get into a motorcycle accident or somehting like that?So if you didn;t start ANY pitchers you'd win ERA & WHIP with 0.00?If that's the case SP's are worthless. So the trade comes down to Abreu & Furcal for Reyes. DO IT.

you should see the looks on their faces since they all begged me to make preseason bets. They LOL'd at my team.. Who's laughing now?

So, you're tied for first and the most you could possibly gain would be 1 point in pitching. You could conceivably lose points in ERA and WHIP.....but assuming you can't, there is one part of the equation you've failed to mention. How much can Clemens help the team you are trading to? Personally, I think you are giving up too much, as even though Clemens can't "hurt" you, he can very possibly help an opponent. Add to that fact that you are also giving up Abreu and Furcal, and in a 5x5 league, you are giving up too much. I never like giving up three high quality players for one superstar, as an injuries cannot be foreseen. An injury to a high quality player is a big obstacle. An injury to a superstar, is almost always devastating, especially after you've dealt any surplus you may have had.

Well, I'm tied for 1st overall, but 2nd to last in SB's, 1st in RBI, RUNS and 5th in AVG. Furcal & Abreu got me a combined 10SB and 2 HR so far. I'd assume that that won't last, but I'd also don't assume that they'll hit much more than 15 HR's on the season each. So I look at it like Reyes could probably match Abreu's HR numbers, and out steal Abreu & Furcal combined for the remainder of the season while still adding Duncan who IMO can still out-HR Abreu for the remainder of the season as well. & also.. you're dead right that an injury can sink a ship, but it's a chance I'm willing to take. Injuries are a factor in any fantasy sport. The years I've won football & baseball are the years when I've just "gone for it"IMO it's an upgrade in HR's and SB's.As for the pitching, I don't quite understand what you're asking, but... my ERA will only suffer if my Closers start to REALLY get rocked. (could happen, who knows) My ERA & WHIP today is 1.911 & 0.770. The next people in line are at 3.10 and 1.163, so I have a little cushion and think I can win ERA/WHIP. As for saves, I'm in second place. You have to understand that I don't plan on starting a single SP who will step foot on the rubber. (o.oo ERA/ o.oo WHIP) My pitching averages are all closer based. Usually low, so history says I'm okay.So my pitching points look like this.. ERA : 14 out of 14 pointsWHIP: 14 out of 14 pointsSaves: 13 out of 14 pointsWins: 1 out of 14 pointsK's: 1 out of 14 points43 points total (3rd overall compared to other teams who actually spent $$ on pitching)

K, just accepted it. Some think I gave up too much, others think I gave him a pile of junk for baseball's best hitter. Regardless, I'm really fired up right now. to ooofffaaa's question:Yes Acevedo has broken ribs and legs from a motorcycle accident. & yes pitchers are worthless to me with this strat. Whip & ERA will be dictated by what my closers do. Do you have any pitchers you can suggest to replace Clemens from here on out? The more disabled the better. ;)

Then Jose Lima is your man.

Just made the trade official. Vote went through 9 yes to 5 no. ...so it barely made it.

People either thought I was giving up too much or that I gave him a pile of "overrateds" for the best fantasy bat of '07. The guy is at the bottom of the league in pitching so it won't come back to hurt me a bit.

Bottom line.. I'm REALLY excited to have Reyes in my main league this summer. :goodposting:

thanks for all the help guys.

If you do win, look for rule changes next year...This is the one of the things why roto sucks...
It's already up for a vote. This year is my only shot. since the leagues been going since the early 90's you'd think they would have made the "min. innings rule" by now. One funny thing is that there are some guys who plan on using it in other leagues without the rule. Overall, nobody's as upset as I thought they would be.

Great thread, just read it.

How big is your lead in saves compared to the next few teams down? It seems like you are fortunate to be winning that category as you can only start max two. You could just as easily be in the middle of the pack, no?

edit: did you try to get Hennessey to start him at SP?

right now I'm only 3 saves ahead of the 3 guys, so not far ahead. Most other teams are starting 4 SPs and 1CL in order to keep their K's & W's up so I've got an advantage there since I'll never start 4 starters. (only 3 fake SPs & 2 CL)also.. nope.. Hennessey was picked up by another team.

Another Update.. Not so hot.

4th place with 92 pts. (1st:108, 2nd:106, 3rd:97)

Overall the strategy would have worked better if I had spent my auction money better. My hitting isn't what it should be (having spent my whole cap on hitters...my OF is horrid & I'm short on Power). ...but my pitching is still ranked 4th overall (so that part of the strat is working).

C-V.Martinez

1-X. Nady

2-C. Utley

S-J. Reyes

3-M. Cabrera

O-J. Dye

O-R. Ibanez

O-S. Victorino

DH- B. Phillips

CL-J. Putz

CL-Capps,Corpas or Street

One

Took 4th place with 93 points. (1st Place: 107, 2nd Place: 99, 3rd Place: 94) If you're league doesn't have a minimum innings rule, I definitely suggest you give this strat some consideration.

I somehow made the mistake of drafting WAY too little power and letting go of Braun too early, otherwise I was right up there with very little worry.

BA: 4th place (out of 14)

HR: 10th place

R: 6th place

RBI: 4th place

SB: 2nd place

...you'd think with spending every dime on hitting I would have dominated every offensive cat.

ERA: 1st

WHIP: 1st

Svs: 1st

Ks: LAST

Ws: LAST

If you need 108 points to win the league, and you're already counting on 44 points out of your pitching (14*3 + 2*1), that means you have to get 64 points out of your hitting, which is roughly 2nd place in every category. Not impossible given your budget, but there's not a lot of room for error. However, I suppose there's little room for error when drafting conventionally as well...
