Granted, it's preseason and the Indy defense is typically a good confidence booster for most running backs, but I thought Roy Helu looked really good last night when given a lot of touches. In slotting players for upcoming rookie drafts, this guy is a real mystery to me in that his MFL ADP suggests that he's a first rounder in rookie drafts (especially with Leshoure, Williams and Baldwin all going in the tank), yet most of the FBG staff has Helu ranked in the 30's amongst rookies. Why such a huge difference between the average drafter and the staff on this one?

I'm constantly reminding myself that if I draft one more RB on a Shanahan coached team then I'm obligated to punch myself in the junk.

:goodposting: Don't forget who the coach is here. Helu is a great pickup if you can get him fairly inexepensive. The usual "Shanny RB lottery ticket" - if your number comes up, congrats to you. If not, you might have to add every RB on the roster AND practice squad, just to guarantee decent production.He's on my list, but lower than his talent/situation would otherwise dictate for that reason.
 
I think the staff has a better understanding of success rate of RBs drafted in the 4th round. They are being objective while normal owners get too caught up in going for the lottery ticket. Lottery tickets are longshots in FF, I think owners start thinking lottery means 50-50 like a coin flip.

He is the most explosive back on the team and will get a share of the carries regardless of who is deemed the starter. If he becomes the starter...while it may not last long he will put up must start fantasy numbers. Not a bad deal for a 10th or 11th round pick. He may be a more valid redraft pick thanJames StarksBernard ScottDemarco MurrayDarren SprolesDelone CarterI'm not saying he is must have...but he's not a bad guy to have as your 4th/5th RB to start the year. Its easy to cut bait after a few weeks for the waiver flavor of the week.
 
So did Hightower. And Hightower seems to be the favorite of Shanny. Not to mention Hightower has already proved he can be a successful RB running and receiving in this league. If he can hold onto the ball, I think Hightower can have a great season for WAS. I would take Helu over Torain at this point though.

 
I always thought if I bought a lottery ticket, I would go Powerball, rather than the local, crappy, win a thousand bucks lotto.

I think the Redskins are not Powerball.

:lmao: Nicely played, sir. While Shanny is the coach, that is NOT the Denver offensive line that was one of the best run-blocking lines this side of the Cowboys blocking for Emmit.

The odds in powerball are what 195 million to one? Nice hyperbole though.

I know this is kind of your thing, but it really has little to do with it. Delone Carter (4th round), Quizz Rodgers (5th), and Kendall Hunter (4th) are all in the top-15 overall.I think many of the FBG staffers don't see Helu as a particularly special runner and are wary of his injury history and upright running style, and thus downgrade him. In terms of FF players at large, many people like to swing for the fences in rookie drafts, and Helu is a very high-risk/high-reward type of player with great measurables who is playing under a coach with a long history of high-production runners. It seems to me like FF players will often draft, particularly in the late 1st or early 2nd round of rookie drafts, based on upside and tend to be influenced more by measurables and situation. On the other hand, once many staffers make a decision about a player they tend to move players a bit less based on combine numbers and situation. Just my opinion...

 
I agree that Helu as a topic has been beaten to death. That said, if you can still get him between 11 and 15 in a rookie draft I think that is value. I'm guessing he is going top 10 though.

I don't like him until the 3rd round. That's why I don't own him on any teams.

I like Powell far better than Helu. I think he is a much better player in a better situation. Washington is a dump right now, and I take the guy who is on the Jets, even though he likely won't get a shot right away. I think in the next to years Powell might have a shot to take over as the lead back for the Jets. Helu will probably score more points this year (although I'm not so sure he isn't the 3rd back for the worst team in the NFL). I actually agree with you, eakfootball. Just wanted to hear your reasoning. Before the draft, I wasn't high on Helu at all, and I'm trying to not let my Skins fandom bias me. In fact, when we traded up to the top of the 4th round and then drafted Helu over Kendall Hunter, I was pretty pissed.

Still, interesting to see Taiwan Jones over him on your list. Again, I'm with you here. I love Jones as a long-term stash. I've got him in all my dynasty leagues. But nobody else seems to be on that bandwagon but us.

 
While Helu might be a nice Pre-season favorite, Hightower has the ball. Unless he fumbles it repeatedly, he won't be relinquishing the role. I don't see the value there...

The potential value here is plenty for dynasty leaguers. He's got size, speed and is in a decent situation to see time quickly. After pick 1.05, Helu's really as good a pick as anyone after all of the injuries.
