LINK Manning would be the highest paid Giant. And one of the highest paid NFL players. I mistyped in the thread title.

Breaking: Manning, Giants Close To New Deal

Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that the New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning are very close to finalizing a new contract that will make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL, as well as the highest paid Giant. A few more details need to be ironed out and barring any last minute stumbling blocks, expect a formal announcement next week.

More on this story as it develops.

The Giants don't have much of a choice here; they've got to stick with Eli for the long haul. That said, he's certainly going to be overpaid. He's coming off maybe his best season to date, but I think we know his ceiling. He's not going to be an all time great but he's not going to kill his team, either. Without Burress, I'm curious to see who the Giants find for him.

I was counting the minutes until someone posted "overpaid".Considering that Matt Ryan was worth $72 million for 6 years before he every played a down in the NFL (although he sure looks like the making of a great QB after a season but that is after he was guaranteed about $32 million) Manning is surely worth more than that. He's probably not an all time great, but I have no idea how we can say that we know his ceiling is.Anyway, as in any NFL contract, ignore the years and ignore the big number. All that matters is what is guaranteed.

Man this is going to cause a real QB controvery. After I waived Favre in the offseason and I turn the reigns over to Ryan, here comes mgmt. giving Eli big $ This right after I called him into the office to tell him that he will never be the #1 QB for FavreCo.

Took the words out of my mouth, but there are always a handful of overpaid QBs in the league; as it's as much a function of when their free agent year comes up as it is their comparative ability against other signal callers.

Just watching the SB from last year on NFLN, man it still feels as good as it did last year... :goodposting:

Bruschi hugging Seau after Moss scores to go ahead in the 4th quarter, now watching this drive... :lmao: :finger:

According to the Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo, a much better source on the Giants than the National Football Post, this report is erroneous:

False alarm sounded on contract talks between New York Giants and Manning

TAMPA - I wasn't going to post anything on this, but then I thought you folks might have been wondering about it, so I've decided to shoot down a report that states the Giants and QB Eli Manning are close on a deal and an announcement could come within days.

I've asked up and down both sides on this one and I can tell you that report is absolutely, unequivocally INCORRECT. (I'm not mentioning the outlet or linking to it on the off chance it was a Super Bowl stunt to drive up traffic to the site.)

All I can tell you is that something could and probably will happen between Manning and the Giants at some point. But it will not be next week - especially since Manning's agent, Tom Condon, is headed to the Pro Bowl for the week, according to someone who spoke to Condon today. That person said Condon said he and the Giants are not close on a deal.
