I threw up in my mouth when we added him to the staff, but truth be told he's done a more than adequate job. And our offense has been far more balanced [and less predictable] when Marty is calling the plays instead of Andy.
There certainly seemed to be a difference in the run/pass ratio depending on who called the plays. But the system has been all Reid's. Maybe they will bring in an OC with a new system? Maybe one of the changes Banner was referring to was the offensive system. I could see them telling Andy he has to relinquish some control over the offense.there is so much speculation in regards to the Eagles and their playcalling.... AR never admits to anything regarding who is calling the plays and such (nor has Marty) ..... I think we've assumed Marty called the plays down the stretch, but no one except anyone on the Eagles could actually know what was occurring..... And I truly don't think Gruden is an upgrade anywhere.... TB never had a great offense... their defense led them to that championship....
What exactly happened? The unexpected birth in the NFC championship game? Not sure why someone has to be blamed for anything. THey did better than 28 other teams.I can't believe I'm saying this but it's not his fault with what happened this year.
Exactly...the offense was fine, particularly when you consider they were without a healthy Westbrook throughout the playoffs. What exactly happened? Isn't he too busy squeezing Charmin ?Mark Whipple would not be in line for the OC job, right?
This was still a 9 win team that struggled at times to score in the red zone. Their red zone offense was terrible last year, they worked on it all training camp and still struggled this year. Not saying I agree with the firing, but Banner was not happy with this season. Also don't discount Banner's disgust of not being the top sports team in Philly right now. From what I've read, he's not happy about the Phillies winning the World Series before the Eagles won a Super Bowl.Like I asked in a previous post, I wonder if Reid had any input to firing Marty and if not, does this mean that Andy is no longer the final word on personnel? If he gets fired it looks to me like they were searching for a scapegoat for not making the Superbowl. I don't personally know any Philly fans but by reputation they are pretty damning especially toward Reid and McNabb both who hold reigns on the offense. Don't know just a guess :shrugsshoulders:What exactly happened? The unexpected birth in the NFC championship game? Not sure why someone has to be blamed for anything. Every time I watch a game and I see the Eagles throwing on 3rd and short or getting into the red zone and stalling - it pisses me off more and more that they didn't pursue Gonzalez like they should have. He is the type of player that they lack - a go to guy. In typical Eagles style they wouldn't part with the necessary draft pick to get it done. This from a team that has traded out of the 1st round the last two years.Firing Marty would be a huge mistake for this team. The issue is that the Eagles have never really had talent at WR, besides the years of TO. They have had a ton of #2 WRs over the years but nothing even close to a go to guy that they could count on in the red zone. Jackson is a nice option but he is not really big enough to be the red zone threat that they need.IMO keep Marty and go get one of the top WR in the draft.
Speculation by the fans is that any Eagles loss Andy Reid was calling the plays and any win Marty was calling them. Like this year after 3 wins in a row of Marty calling the plays, in the Eagles thread people were blaming Andy Reid's play calling against Washington. My schtick in 05 while watching a game was to applaud Marty any first down we get, and yell at Andy for any incomplete pass. I called any run "MARTY BALL."On a serious note, part of the reason you're never gonna hear Marty was calling the plays during a loss is , Andy doesn't throw his guys under the bus.there is so much speculation in regards to the Eagles and their playcalling.... AR never admits to anything regarding who is calling the plays and such (nor has Marty) ..... Almost as inaccurate and overused as booing Santa. So does this mean Philly goes back to an 80/20 pass/run ratio
Not really speculation. The cameras frequently show the coaches on the sidelines between plays. It's not hard to see when the coach is covering his mouth with the playcards while talking into the mic, and when he's simply reading the playcard while listening on his headset.I realize it wouldn't be as obvious with other coaches...but it's VERY obvious during an Eagles telecats because Marty and AR both have very distinctive habits.Speculation by the fans is that any Eagles loss Andy Reid was calling the plays and any win Marty was calling them. Like this year after 3 wins in a row of Marty calling the plays, in the Eagles thread people were blaming Andy Reid's play calling against Washington.
Obviously the 80% is sarcasm, but do you really think Reid would call a balanced offense without Morninweg?Almost as inaccurate and overused as booing Santa. So does this mean Philly goes back to an 80/20 pass/run ratio![]()
IF Marty is let go, then I think it would come from Banner/Laurie. And it would come with a message to Andy that the offense will change. Not Andy's decision. Yes, getting to the NFCCG was a great accomplishment but Laurie & Banner have made it clear they are not satisfied with that. It was Joe Banner's words following the loss to the Cards that things will change. He didn't say they would talk it over with Andy. As much as Eagles fans get blasted here for not being satisfied, the organization is not satisfied. As for the team scoring a record high in points, yes that's wonderful too. But it produced a 9 win season and no home games in the post season. Again, its Banner & Laurie that are not satisfied with that. Its great to be able to score points in bunches, but more important to score them when you need them.Obviously the 80% is sarcasm, but do you really think Reid would call a balanced offense without Morninweg?Almost as inaccurate and overused as booing Santa. So does this mean Philly goes back to an 80/20 pass/run ratio![]()
All of you that think that the offense would change to a more balanced approach are crazy. The reason Reid was hired was that his philosophy on how you win games in the NFL was the same as Joe Banner's. Banner believes in pass/pass/pass just as much as Reid does. That's just simply not going to change. I think the 70/30 balance that existed in quite a few games may change more to 65/35 or 60/40. But if you think that this team is going to run the ball 50-60% of the times on a regular basis without Andy Reid AND Joe Banner being replaced, then I'd have to disagree.

Havent' heard anything here. Gonna hope that tomorrow during Missinelli's(the guy who heard from reputable sources) radio show on 950espn(3-7) that he will say something about it.Did anything happen with this rumor? Has there even been any confirmation that the Eagles' FO is considering it?
That's pretty much accurate.I expect Reid is gone very soon if the team doesn't win the Super Bowl. That's where Lurie stets the bar for a succesful season - here's an interview with him:JaxBill said:GroveDiesel said:All of you that think that the offense would change to a more balanced approach are crazy. http://www.delcotimes.com/articles/2009/01...13333392314.txtSpeculation offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg won’t be back for a seventh season with the Eagles was dismissed Saturday by a club spokesman.
Eagles football media relations director Derek Boyko double-checked the status of Mornhinweg with his boss, Andy Reid. Boyko said the head coach denied the reports, the rumors and the speculation.
Boyko also suspects reporters confused Mornhinweg with Mark Whipple, the Eagles’ offensive assistant who sources say has sold his house and will leave the nest. Whipple likely will be named offensive coordinator of the University of Miami.
Eagles quarterbacks coach Pat Shurmur was allowed to take the offensive coordinator job of the St. Louis Rams, where he teams with head coach Steve Spagnuolo, a former Eagles assistant.
Mornhinweg, 46, has been assistant head coach/offensive coordinator the past three years with the Eagles.
The Eagles ranked ninth in total offense, including sixth in passing and ranked sixth in the league in points scored.
That's interesting, but i always believe where's there smoke, there's fire. I don't personally think he is totally out of the woods yet.FWIW:
