Rumor: Peppers to Retire at End of Year (1 Viewer)

Sorry that I can't be more specific, but I heard a rumor from a source with second hand ties to Peppers that he will retire at the end of the year. Peppers is in the last year of his contract and according to the source, this is why there haven't been any negotiations. Personally I've never figured out what motivates Pep. He's definately not a leader on the team and at times takes plays off. That said, his fitness has never seemed to be an issue. Any dynasty Peppers owners may want to keep this in the back of of their head. Again, I don't know how much stock to put into this, but I heard a similiar rumor weeks before Stephan Davis went on IR for the year a few years ago.

Thanks for the info.

I have Peppers in a dynasty league... Basically he is my bye week fill in now. He was the #1 defensive guy I drafted off the board a few years ago. I'm just hoping he can string together another decent week or two so I can get something decent for him.

What would be considered decent out of interest. I have him as well and would like to try move him, but want to get something in return that may be of value at some point. We are also in a dynasty league.

How reliable is this source, and why hasn't this intention been announced by Peppers himself? Is this source saying that Peppers is adamant about retiring, or is this just something that's been floated.A lot of these guys grumble about "thinking about retirement", and I can't blame them given the physical toll that this sport takes on their bodies, so I wonder if that's all there is going on here. Also, it's not unheard of for star players to threaten retirement to try to get leverage in contract negotiations.

I dunno good question. Something that could help me out this year or down the line. Maybe a draft pick, but those are not traded too often in my league. Right now I am not starting Peppers. We use 3 DL per week. I was just burned too much last year and the first two weeks this year to play him.

I really don't know the reliability, it came second hand from another player. I dropped the ball a few years ago with the Davis rumor I got and could have potentially save many people from drafting damaged goods in that season. This isn't a public threat and I don't see Pep as the type to play those games. May be nothing to this, but if you can move Pep for someone you see equal in terms of production, I don't see the downside (referring to dynasty). He's not exactly lighting it up in a contract year.

Peppers is out of the top 50 DL in my leagues, if I can get equal perceived value, I'd move him, but for equal production? I can get that off the waiver wire.
