Just saw this.Chargers selected him in the 8th round. He's 6'4" 215lbs from Saginaw Valley State, 23 years old.Led the league with 679 yards on 37 catches. Averaged 18.4 yards per catch and also had 12 TDs. Has anybody seen this kid play before? I'm not concerned about his round, since there are guys like Rod Smith who were never drafted.

So did I, but that's what it says on the website...

85 Martin, Ruvell  WR 6-4/1.93 215/98 8/10/82 Saginaw Valley State NFL Draft-8/Chargers

He was a undrafted FA to my knowledge. He had a decent game on the last week of preseason, 5 rec for 80 yds and a TD. Most of it coming in the 4th quarter with Cleo Lemon in at QB. He was cut shortly after the game, and was not signed to practive squad. I think its tough to read much into the last preseason game, he didn't do anything that really stood out to me.

He was MVP of NFLE

I don't understand why this came up? Did they just re-sign him?Anyhow in NFLE he had breakaway speed which no one expected and sorta like Rice and a thousand other WRs, can't be seen in 40 drills.

From my NFLE player breakdown:Ruvell Martin: WR San Diego Chargers6’4” 215 lbs. – Saginaw Valley State23 years old - Undrafted Free Agent (SD) 2004 – Allocated to the Amsterdam Admirals Career Rush/Receiving Stats Att Yards TDS Rec Yards TDSAmsterdam Admirals (2005) 0 0 0 37 679 12Career Stats (NFL) 0 0 0 0 0 0UpsideRuvell has great leaping ability and times his jumps well to catch the ball at it’s highest point. Martin's large hands and wingspan enable him to force separation from defensive backs. His ability to change directions swiftly, out jump the opposition, and flexibility to get down to receive a low pass, as well as his willingness to take bodily risks for the good of the team make him a standout. DownsideRuvell has a rather slight build and can be jammed at the line by physical cornerbacks. He needs to become a better route runner if he wants to have more of an impact in the NFL. He sometimes loses focus and needs to enhance his concentration. ConclusionMartin has a good chance to make some noise for the Chargers, although it remains to be seen how soon his impact will be felt. He had an outstanding season in NFLE and showed what kind of a big play threat he could be. His YPC was the highest of anyone in NFLE and he led the league in TD’s. There is quite a bit of marginal talent on the Chargers right now. That plus the fact that they have some aging veterans could lead to a deadly 1-2 punch of Vincent Jackson and Martin in the near future.

Packers | Martin contract updateFri, 13 Jan 2006 20:53:09 -0800Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR Ruvell Martin signed a future two-year contract with a base salary of $235,000 (2006) and $310,000 (2007).
From DraftDaddy.com:
NFL EUROPE OFFENSIVE MVP "RUNNER-UP"WR ~ Ruvell Martin ~ San Diego Chargers ~ 6'4", 215 pound WR, who had 40 receptions for 751 yards and 13 TD's in 11 games for the World Bowl champion Admirals this season. Former Saginaw Valley State star was signed by the Chargers after he went undrafted in 2004.Martin is a tall WR, who doesn't seem to have the type of top line speed NFL teams are looking for as a starter. Nontheless, showed he was force to reckon with in the Redzone in NFLe, snaring 13 TD's in 11 games and could project as 3rd or 4th WR at the next level, given a chance.....The ultimate NFLe "playmaker", has excellent leaping ability and solid hands......After the great NFLe season Martin just had, you'd think he'd have a great shot to make the Chargers roster, but with at least 6 WR's ahead of him on the depth chart right now (including 3 as tall as Martin at 6'4"), he's got a tough task ahead of him. Good NFLe player, but making the Chargers will be real tough.
