This kid can flat out Mash... Get him if you can ... NOW! He is one of my Minors and :goodposting:

Per Rotoworld:

The Brewers announced that they're promoting Ryan Braun to the majors for Friday's game.

Braun has very good power and likes to steal bases, so he could be a Hunter Pence-type asset right from the start of his major league career. NL-only leaguers will want him active immediately, and mixed leaguers should stash him away, if possible. Tony Graffanino and Craig Counsell figure to move into utility roles now. We're not sure what the corresponding move will be, but releasing Graffanino or sending down Corey Hart look like possibilities. Cutting Kevin Mench would also make sense.

The Brewers placed Elmer Dessens on the 15-day DL to make room for Braun. Braun led the majors in HRs during spring training. I think in 4 games he had 5 HRs. He also had 4 errors. The Brewers were hoping they could leave him at Triple A another year to work on his fielding but their recent offensive struggles made this move neccessary. Counsell and Grafinino weren't getting the job done. His bat is definitely major league ready. We'll see if he has improved defensively.

What is remarkable is how they acquired their starting lineup....

1B) Fielder-Drafted

2B) Weeks-Drafted

SS) Hardy-Drafted

3B) Braun-Drafted

LF) Jenkins-Drafted

CF) Hall-Drafted

RF) Hart/Gwynn-Both Drafted

C) Estrada-Traded for

That's the way a small market team has to do it to remain competitive for more than one year.

This guy is really Pence-esque? I missed the boat on him and I have 2nd waiver priority in a 16 team league. The only player I'd use him on, other than a suprising release, is Homer Bailey or Andrew Miller, or should I be thinking of another

Bailey is already in the Yahoo game...

That is a sweet infield and one that will contend for quite some time.
If they will pay for it...
True - but it should be a few years before they're eligible for FA.

Braun brought up for his bat

Dessens placed on 15-day DL

San Diego - With third base turning into a black hole offensively in a lineup struggling to score runs, the Milwaukee Brewers could wait no longer to call up Ryan Braun.

The Brewers announced late Thursday night that Braun, 23, their top everyday prospect in the minor leagues, was being summoned from Class AAA Nashville. Club officials waited until after Braun played in the Sounds' game against Memphis in Nashville because they wanted him to get additional at-bats after spending time recently on the disabled list.

To make room on their roster for Braun, the Brewers placed reliever Elmer Dessens on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder, retroactive to Saturday. Braun is expected to be in the lineup tonight for the game against San Diego.

Contacted at Nashville's Greer Stadium after getting the news, Braun said his manager, Frank Kremblas, called him into his office and merely gave him the flight itinerary to San Diego.

"He didn't say anything," Braun said. "It took me a second to figure it out. I couldn't believe it. It's absolutely incredible. It's great to get the opportunity and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The decision to summon Braun was made because the third-base platoon of veteran infielders Craig Counsell and Tony Graffanino has generated virtually no offense. The Brewers rank 28th among the 30 major-league clubs at that position in slugging percentage (.273), 27th in batting average (.214), tied for 26th in home runs (one) and runs scored (16) and 25th in runs batted in (14).

Braun, on the other hand, took a .726 slugging percentage and 1.152 OPS (on-base plus slugging) into Nashville's game against Memphis, both figures tops in the Pacific Coast League. Twenty-two of his 39 hits were for extra bases, and he led the Sounds with 10 home runs. After going 0 for 4 with a walk in Nashville's 9-5 victory, Braun was batting .342 with 22 RBI in 34 games.

The Brewers are looking to add some punch to an attack that has slipped badly during a 4-9 stretch that began with the previous trip to New York and Philadelphia. Over that 13-game slide, they scored three or fewer runs eight times.

"We're struggling right now offensively and we thought we'd give Ryan an opportunity to see if he can make an impact on the ballclub," said Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, reached in Florida, where he was watching Class A Brevard County.

"But this is not a case where we expect one guy to come up and carry the ballclub. We've got to perform better as a team offensively. Ryan has performed very well offensively down there and we think he's got a chance to be a good big-league player. We'll see what he can do."

Braun, a confident player, said he didn't consider himself a cure-all for the Brewers' offense but expected to be successful.

"I'm extremely confident and I have a belief in my ability," he said. "I think I can contribute right away. I don't look at it like I'm coming up to save the club. I'm just looking forward to contributing and helping the team win a pennant."

Selected in the first round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Miami, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Braun put on a hitting display in the Brewers' training camp this spring, beginning with a two-homer, seven-RBI performance in the first exhibition game. He batted .353 with five homers and 15 RBI in 11 games, missing more than a week with a sore elbow.

But the Brewers didn't think Braun's defense was ready for the major leagues. A former shortstop who converted to third base in his final year at Miami, he had particular difficulty making accurate throws across the diamond, committing four errors in exhibition play.

The Brewers sent Braun to Nashville to work on his defense, admitting that his bat probably was good enough for the majors. He committed only three errors in Nashville.

"The staff there told me he's playing much better defensively," said Melvin, who saw Braun handle only two grounders earlier in the week while in Nashville to watch three games. "They feel it hasn't been an issue. They're not that concerned with it."

Counsell and Graffanino did the defensive job at third for the Brewers, with Graffanino committing the only two errors between them. But they weren't getting it done on offense. Counsell is hitting .231 with no homers and eight RBI, and Graffanino - who also has started eight games at second base - has seen his average dip to .187 with one homer and eight RBI.

"There are a couple of other positions that need to be more productive, too," Melvin said.

Counsell and Graffanino originally were signed as free agents over the off-season to provide backups for middle infielders J.J. Hardy and Rickie Weeks. The Brewers hoped third baseman Corey Koskie would return from the post-concussion syndrome that sidelined him for the second half of the 2006 season but Koskie remains sidelined with continuing symptoms and might not play this year.

I would use it on Braun. Miller should be in the game now but has been sent down anyway to AA. Other then waiting a little longer on Gallardo, Braun is your man.

Drafted him in my keeper league as part of my minors! :banned:

I might actually have to call him up if Chavez's injury lingers, maybe to start Braun next week. I'll be paying close attention to the Brewers boxes this weekend.

Keep us up to date on how he looks Brew-Crew homers. :banned:

Should I drop Alex Gordon for him?Who has more upside(keeper league)
Gordon has more upside as I believe he's got more speed. The problem with Braun is that his days as a third baseman are probably numbered. He keeps asking the glove companies to send him ones made of leather and yet when he opens the box, they are made of stone. Amazing how that happens. It would seem to me he's going to become an outfielder or the Brewers will be forced to trade him. He's really that bad defensively.

Do I dump Morgan Ensberg for him (non-keeper league)?

Cats - AVG, HR, R, RBI, SB

With Ensberg getting only 1 or 2 starts a week, he is killing me.

The only decent free agents at 3B are Iwamura, Enacarnacion (if he ever starts hitting) and this Braun kid.

Tough to say IMHO - maybe Gordon. Could you drop someone else to get him, particularly in a keeper league?
My team:C: Martin1B: Delgado, C. Pena, D Johnson2B: Hill, F LopezSS: Cabrera3B: Atkins, GordonOF: Holliday, Crawford, Willingham, LoftonUTL: ThomasSP: Johan, Lackey, Hamels, Lowe, Snell, Hughes, O HernandezRP: Street, Myers, Embree, Soria, Guzman.......god hates me and my closersI'd hate to drop a pitcher...........I've got plenty of underachieving hitters.....go ahead, pick one.

You've got plenty of options for drops. Pena, Embree, Guzman can all go.

I would consider El Duque in that group. Or Guzman/Embree.Braun is 100x more valuable then any of them in a keeper league.

Thanks for the tip :D

I have Lowell, who's been great thus far, but if he collapses I'm hoping this kid will be a nice insurance policy down the line.

First off, not many rookies do much better in their first game. Secondly did you see the game? He hit the ball hard every AB, and his very first time up he hit one to the wall. He'll be fine.

There's no question Braun has a great bat. The only question is whether he hurts them more with his glove than helps with the bat. He's a major league ready hitter and you must add him. Lowell has a history of second half collapses so use Braun and trade Lowell sometime in June, before the swoon.

well, tonight's 3 for 4 and a homer helps my decision along, and I'll pull the trigger on him, what the hell. Gotta like his chances in that lineup in that park.

This is not good news. He's still on waivers until tomorrow, undoubtedly someone else will catch wind and pick this dude up.

Yep was pissed he did that while he was still on waiversAnyways got him in my non keeper league, dropped Ensberg for him

I've got Rolen and Wigginton at 3B, and am currently starting Wigginton. Rolen has been trash. Would anyone else drop Rolen to pick this kid up? I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger here.
There's only one guy in front of me on waivers, and he's got A-Rod and Rolen. I'm hoping like hell he doesn't drop Rolen for Braun, but I think he will. I would.

I was able to pick him up as well, hopefully he can save me from my Atkins blunder (well, what has been a blunder so far).

Next question is do I waste my #1 WW priority to grab him, or do I hope that he slides past waivers and I can pick him up that way? This league has a tendency to drop good players over the past and are not too up to date on prospects. (Waited until the day before Lincecum's start to get him)
If you're in a Yahoo league, he's a FA right now, go get him.

Without a doubt.
In retrospect this was a horrible question. Glad I dumped Ensberg for him....now if I could just have the rest of my lineupo produce like this kid.

if he had enough at bats he would be leading the league in batting.

Kid can play.

Local radio guys here were begging for him to be brought up all of april and early may.

Thanks for the kudos......

let us just hope yesterday was just a routine day off as he has not had one is a long time and that "twinge" he feels is really nothing. I feel confident in that assesment as he was sent in as a PH late in the game.

This guys gone from one of my two minor league keeper spots (with Maybin) to me actually keeping him in one of my eight major league slots (so I aquired Wood).

Braun is 2-for-2 again today including an RBI single. Batting average back up to .352. :lmao: I heard last night that he's got a real chance to win the rookie triple crown.

That last at bat didn't hurt his chances.

He's got to be close to getting enough at bats to qualify for the batting title. How many does he need to be up to?
