[s]JOB OPENING:[/s] 2024 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (1 Viewer)

Chaka

Footballguy
I have only played in only one fantasy league since I started this hobby in 1996. Drafting at the 1.12-2.01 turn my first two draft picks ever in this league were John Elway and Jeff George (2QB league). That was the year Jeff George had one of the worst melt downs ever, worse than Antonio Brown leaving mid game for the Bucs, in week 3 and was benched for the entire season  . Good times.

The following season, 1997, I vowed never to be burned by a QB like that again and boldly planted my flag with Emmitt Smith in the first, coming off a 1,453 15 TD season. He went on to score four total TDs that season. My second round pick, Curtis Martin was coming off a 1,487 yard 17 season. He scored 5 TDs in 1997. It still kills me but, it's also hilarious because no matter how bad the start to my FF "career" was, I was completely and utterly hooked.

In the days before laptops I was the guy who brought a laminated draft board. I was the guy who wrote weekly recaps and power rankings, which pretty much amounted to ranking my team first, no matter my record, and talking #### about all my league mates. We didn't have an actual league trophy but when I won my first championship you bet your ### I bought an obnoxiously large custom championship ring that I wore to the draft the following season.

Apologies for the long preamble but very suddenly my league has collapsed. One of our members has received a terrible diagnosis, which led to many members reevaluating their priorities and now our league is no more. So, I am feeling a bit nostalgic.

TL/DR - I will no longer be hosting the weekly WSIS thread. I'm not playing this season so I will likely not be spending too much time following the hobby and won't be able to provide any sort of competent analysis.

I think people found that thread useful so if anyone wants to take the initiative, I am sure there are some who will appreciate it.

Uhhhhh... nevermind.

Well if that's the end of it, then let me just say nobody ever did it better.

Hang tough GB.

:sadbanana:....sucks....been playing FF forever....consider myself an expert in my own circles....but WDIS is easily my biggest weakness.....mostly because I crush drafts and the WW and then have tough decisions weekly....and the "experts" weekly rankings all look the same....from the gut/local viewers weekly opinions by non experts often help...IMO you shouldn't give up the hobby....it helps keep your mind sharp and engaged in something....if nothing else you should at least pass it on....kids/grandkids/whatever....do a team with them...I think FF should be in classrooms and classes everywhere and all ages....how better to learn about ROI, engage in something besides Tik Tok, check stats, etc....just my :2cents:...but if nothing else....maybe chime in...especially since you aren't playing and have no personal investment....just give your observations...either way enjoy the free time and just enjoy football...:suds:

@Chaka - This would be a good time to expand your horizons. While I only play in dynasty, I absolutely love DEVY format. DEVY combines the dynasty aspect of the hobby with developmental underclassman players from college. If you find one (see "Looking for Leagues" forum here at FBGs, I'll join one with you if there are two openings. Or if you don't want to try DEVY, at least give dynasty a try. Not sure what your previous league format was.

Taking nothing away from the Herculean efforts here, while @Chaka has done yeoman’s work, this topic has long been crowd-sourced, with lots of contributors.

I don’t think it needs to be handed off to any 1 specific person, so long as we have a weekly topic.

Maybe someone can volunteer to start the topic every week?

That's all I would ask of anyone. Even if my league didn't end this season, or I decide to jump into another one I wouldn't commit the time to try and respond to every single post as I have done in seasons past. It's too much of a time suck.

You were doing the work of the fantasy gods, Chaka. Truly. Not only were you a big help to me many times but your feedback was always welcome, well thought out, and snark free. A great contributor to this board. I totally understand wanting to take a break and step away for a bit (even an extended bit).

Hope the best for you and yours and hope to see you from time to time around these parts.

Not sure I could commit to getting the post up every week (going to be traveling a bit at the beginning of the season). But I'm always down to add my two cents.

I think that’s a great idea if anyone is willing to just put the thread up each week and everyone can just chime in.

We’ll miss you, @Chaka, and thanks for all the work over the years.

I can launch it, I put a lot of game threads up on Sunday, this one seems to appear before Sunday IIRC

-It would be good if folks could do.a little bit of the leg work themselves and state why they are leaning whichever way they are

I think I usually put it up on Wednesdays.

That stinks.
You need another good group of guys.

Have you thought about donating your money to DFS sites? "Draft Kings charity" is super similar to "The Human fund" that George Costanza began many years ago. Then when people say "no it's a contest" you can just reply that ever since Seinfeld you don't like hearing about contests.

Thanks for all your efforts 🙏
