Saints Appreciation Thread (1 Viewer)

I'll start by offering a mild apology for starting yet another thread, but I'm going to do it anyway.

First, to all those here that doubted the Saints all year. To those saying their defense wasn't for real. To all those saying they didn't deserve to be there. To all those saying that the Colts were going to blow them out. To all those saying the Colts were going to drop 40 points. Thank you. I know that talk made many of the Saints fans here, including myself, a little oversensitive and a little chippy. But, it makes this win all the more sweet. Some of you probably still think they were either overrated, got lucky, or whatever you want to think. That's ok. The crow is there to eat and it feels good to finally be on the other side to watch it eaten. Just keep this in mind. Kurt Warner. Brett Favre. Peyton Manning. Those are the 3 QBs we just faced, in a row, and beat. 17 points for the Colts after 2 weeks of preparation for Peyton. Late INT to seal the game. Aside from the slow start through the 1st quarter, the Saints were simply fantastic in all phases of the game. So, no more need to be chippy or oversensitive. Now I'll just sit back and enjoy.

Secondly, to all those who have offered congratulations and support in various threads, I'm sure I speak for all Saints fans here when I say thanks. No, I don't play for the Saints. No, I'm not even a fan of the team for 30-40 years like some others. But, the fan base for New Orleans is one that is just so hard to describe. There really is a feeling of part "ownership" with that team. Knowing that so many people across the country were rooting for the Saints was a great feeling. Maybe it's just because it was the Saints and this is the first time, but it just felt so different with the support from so many that aren't even Saints fans. So thanks to everyone for all their posts giving their well wishes and happiness for the win. It's very much appreciated.

Finally, to all fellow Saints fans. The New Orleans Saints finally did it. I knew it could happen but there was that uncertainty. There was that nervousness for the last 2 weeks. And now there's just the excitement and unbelievable relief. Just a great relief. Oh, and that excitement :banned: I only wish I could be in NOLA tonight for the celebration. For those of you there, enjoy and drink an extra beer for me!!

WHO DAT!!!!!!!!

You forgot to mention the illegal late hits on Favre that the refs allowed. Minnesota walloped the Saints, and themselves, but good game plan anyway.

####'in eh. Congrats to the Saints fans all over the globe. If ever there's a fanbase that I'm happy for, it's the :bag: 's. :)

From Sean Peyton on down, congrats to everybody involved!

Party on.

:)

I've been waiting for this since I was about 8 years old, and now that it has actually happened I'm not quite sure what to do. I've cried like a little girl, hugged everybody who would let me, ran around the block, played with the dog, drank about 7 beers and watched hours and hours of postgame coverage. I won't sleep tonight, and I'm not going to work tomorrow. So much nervous energy. I still can't believe it. I don't know what to say, except:

OH. MY. GOD.

Yeah, well who has a Superbowl title?
Minnesota is the better team, YOU KNOW IT. Deep down, Saints fans know it. Vikes took them to overtime even after 5 turnovers, Saints could only put up 257 yards, and only about 80 in the second half (Vikes had 475 yards), you got great no calls and calls by the refs at crunch time, and you won the coin flip. YOU GOT LUCKY. Way to win today though, I was rooting for you. :bag: Nobody will take away your superbowl victory if you are honest with yourselves and admit you got super lucky against the Vikes.

God, it must really SUCK to be you right now. Keep telling yourself we care. :)

You are seriously embarrassing yourself
Embarrassing oneself included typing words on a message board? I feel quite well in my stated position.
No crying like a school girl over and over about a game 2 weeks ago that was simply lost because the old qb choked and threw a pick with 22 seconds left is embarrassing.

I must of missed the game where the Vikings played better then the Saints to get the win!Who won the Superbowl? So how is Any team better then the Saints?I mean its simple and common logic if your a football fan, heck forget that, its common logic if you are a person. The best hold the trophy.

I really appreciate Sean Payton's guts.

Not only would he have been vilified if they lost this morning with the decision to go for it at the goal line, but he says to hell with it lets onside kick it to begin the half for good measure. He was prepared for the backlash but realized he had to try to keep the ball out of Peyton's hands. Tremendous gutsy, coaching display. It just took the wind out of the Colts sails to sit that whole 2nd qtr, go into halftime thinking ok now we're getting the ball back... and bam, onside kick recovered.

Thanks to everyone giving the Saints congratulations. To the select few who are still boohooing the Vikings game, No the Vikings are not the better team. The better team is the one that eliminates turnovers and scores the most points. The Saints did both and the Vikings did neither. Fact is on a night that the Saints were not having their best game they still found a way to win. To Colts fans, you are very classy fans, you offer no excuses and give credit were it is due. You have a lot to be proud of about your franchise and Peyton Manning. Best of luck to you and your team in the future. To the other Saints fans on this message board savor this moment it has taken 43 years but we finally did it. Who Dat!

It's not surprising to find the "jilted VIkings fans" posts in this thread. They are still dreaming about what could have been. They will toss and turn in their sleep for another couple weeks before they turn their attention back to hating their underachieving coach and hoping upon hope that Brett comes back for another year. They had too many men on the field in the Championship game and ZERO men on the field at the Super Bowl.

Congrats to the Saints; I'm going to head on down to my virtual Mojo's and have a double Espresso to celebrate this one!!!

What a great Jazzfest line up this year; wish I could make it.

 I didn't think they had a good enough D to win it all, but those guys came up big when they had to. Big time kudos.I've seen a lot of classy congrats from Indy fans, especially in stark contrast to the enormous number of bitter Vikings fans clogging up threads.Anyway, very happy for NOLA and the all the Saints fans. Enjoy it (and we know you will).

:lmao: I have a new-found respect for Colts fans, and it's not only from this board. A good number of them came onto the Saints' boards last night to offer congratulations.

It's weird... I've been waiting for this Super Bowl win since the mid-80s and, while I am certainly enjoying it, I am almost equally enjoying the display of class from the Colts' fans.

Agreed....not much hate coming from the Colts fan camp right now. Shows the different class levels of the Viking and Colt fans.Colts fans had many great things to cheer about this year, Colts still will be a great team next year.

Also its still early, Colts fans could still be asleep. :lmao:

Checking in from work unfortunately. Congrats to Saints fans and the city of New Orleans. I'm really glad it was a well officiated game and there was no room for too much controversy. Hopefully I will have a lot of cancellations today so I can read the SB thread.

Who Dat

Congrats to Saints fans. Though I was rooting against you, you earned it and won the game without controversy. The bright side is for me is that it makes the NFC South more legitimate when we win it next year.

Vikings would not have beaten the Colts this year. Saints won the SB in convincing fashion. Congratulations to the fans, I am sure it feels amazing to get it done your first go round in the Superbowl, that's pretty special.

Congrats to the NO Saints and their fans.

This is simply called DESTINY or FATE. It didnt matter what the Vikings or Colts did, whether they were the better team or not, but in life/sports, some things are MEANT to be regardless.

Saints are the team of DESTINY for SB 44.

That crowd out in the quarter last night was nuts. I've never seen anything like it and that includes the height of Mardi Gras.

It was cool getting a chance to see the aftermath erupt from a 2nd floor balcony on Bourbon.

Tomorrow's parade may even top that.

Anyways. I woke up a different person today and can now move along with life.

Who Dat.

The fun is just beginning. Now you'll get to watch and listen to all the sports shows talk up your team, you can watch the highlights over and over on NFL.com, then relive it on NFL Network as they replay the game over the offseason. Pick up all the local newspapers and keep them (I still have the Green Bay Press Gazette one from the 1996 season), and the magazines, too. DVR the parade and enjoy all the festivities. I'm jealous.

There is so much blame assigned to Favre and Manning for the losses when we really should be praising Tracy Porter for being an excellent CB. Not only did he intercept Manning and Favre but he also stopped the Vikings on the 20 when he stripped Berrian of the ball. Here is what he said about his Super Bowl winning interception.

Porter said it was a case of film study paying off. He recognized the formation, with Austin Collie going in motion, and knew Manning would be looking for Reggie Wayne right around the needed distance for a first down.

"When I saw Austin Collie go in motion I said, 'Oh yeah, this is the route they've been running all year,' and yeah, I had it in my mind I was going to jump the route," Porter said. "It was just like I was watching it on film and I made the break on it and here comes the end zone."

Were are you going to watch it Gadabout? I am thinking about catching the front end of it by the dome if I can find parking.

:goodposting: Wow Donnybrook are you sure you are a Vikings fan? anyway I agree with you. Porter was a very under the radar corner until the playoffs hit. I loved it when we drafted him but he had the injury bug early on in his rookie year and then again this year he got hurt and was out a few games. I am glad he made a full recovery and didn't go on IR or else our season would not have turned out this way.

Hated to see to Colts lose, but at least it was to a deserving and likable champion. Enjoy it. Saints fans. You've certainly paid your dues over the years.

I have to work tomorrow night at 6:30ish in the quarter, so I'm thinking about trying to catch the front end of it somewhere near the dome. If I didn't have to work, I'd bring an ice chest to Lee Circle and get absolutely crunk somewhere in the mid afternoon.

Congrats to my Saints Friends. Enjoy your year. Its going to be a crazy week here. To bad I drank a bottle of Vodka Sunday night, and I still feel like 5h1t. :lmao:

It is unreal how gracious the colts fans have been in defeat. Thanks.
