Saints D loses 3 starters (Harper, Gay, Fujita) (1 Viewer)

PC Load Letter

Irregardless.
As per Sportsline

Saints D loses three starters Saints, DST NONews: The Saints' defense will be short at least three players who started in Week 1 when New Orleans plays at Washington on Sunday. Safety Roman Harper, cornerback Randall Gay and linebacker Scott Fujita were unable to practice Friday, and coach Sean Payton said they will not play this weekend. Harper pulled his right hamstring and Gay his left hamstring during the season-opening 24-20 victory over Tampa Bay last Sunday. Fujita bruised his right knee in the first quarter of that game, but returned to make a clinching interception.Analysis: This kills the value of the Saints DST as a sleeper option this week. Don't count on them in Week 2 at Washington.
I don't know about you, but I jumped all over this line (NO +1) after Washington's abysmal performance in Week 1, but now I'm not so sure. Do the Skins suck so much that the Saints can prevail down 3 major players?

Yes.
One of the few teams that the Saints can still stop with that terrible defense.
A healthy Saints D isn't terrible any more. Without three starters, though...Who starts in front of Harper? Bullocks?Gay should be the least impactful injury, since they have a lot of second-rate corners to trot out there.Missing Fujita will hurt.

Let's see, no Colston, 3 starters out on an already bad defense, playing on the road, and its the Skins first home game of the season. Ummm, yes, the Skins can win this game.

Washington's DC has got to be BEGGING the secondary personnel to NOT get beaten over the top. If the Skins will keep the game in front of them, and give Portis the ball in space, they can dominate time of possession and squeak out a win.

Nice to see Patten get his chance to shine; after he left the Patriots there was nothing but negative talk about the guy and his skills. I look for the Saints to continue putting up mad passing stats and drive the Skins further into internal catfighting mode.

With all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about. The Saints defense was very solid last week. Yes, they gave up some yardage, but only 13 points. They harrassed Garcia all game long and blanketed the receivers, and other than a 40+ yard run by Graham they kept the Bucs RBs largely in check. They look MUCH improved over last year.Having said that, the loss of Gay hurts the Saints a lot, because it puts them in a position where they will probably have to play Jason David (who is without a doubt the worst player I have ever seen). Mike McKenzie may not play either. They have also lost Hollis Thomas and Antwan Lake who figured heavily in the DT rotation. There are only two healthy defensive tackles on the roster at the moment and they will both have to play basically the entire game. Combine that with a special teamer filling in for Fujita and I expect Portis will have plenty of space to run.

Aside from your first statement, from a fantasy usefulness perspective, you basically agreed with him. Saints D will be in trouble this week. There's a good chance that Cooley, or Moss go off.

Sure.....just pointing out that they were not "already bad", as he said. I find it likely that they will be pretty bad this week, but few defenses would fare well with 6-7 key players missing.
