Saints Homers- Is it Shockey or Billy Miller? (1 Viewer)

Preseason, we all thought Shockey could do well in New Orleans. However, thus far he has been hurt, whined, and been a clone of 2007 Jeremy Shockey.

Billy Miller has been outstanding lately and targetted a lot by Brees in the high powered offense.

What does everyone think..

Will Shockey rebound from the bye week and return to Fantasy Football relevance?

Will Shockey continue to be hurt and be unreliable?

has Brees found a new go to guy in Billy Miller and will that continue?

Or is it TEBC in NO?

I think it'll be Miller. He has good hands and picks up yards after the catch. Shockey isn't healthy and Brees clearly wasn't pleased with him on a play in the second half. The only thing that will keep Shockey in over Miller is Payton's manlove, because clearly Miller has been the better player this year.

No inside info, but I've been playing close attention to the situation because B Miller has been my cover for Winslow the last few wks. I think it's turned into a TEBC at this point. I'm not sure of Shockey's overall health, but he did virtually nothing last week in a game where Brees racked up a ton of passing yards. Miller was the biggest beneficiary in that category by far, and their 3rd TE (Campbell?) caught a TD.

Personally, I wouldn't want Shockey at all right now, at least not until he actually shows something on the field. You could do a lot worse than Miller, especially in PPR since he seems to be getting a lot of targets/rec each week. Winslow is back this week & I'm still considering starting Miller again.

a lot of $$ is being doled out to Shockey and there's a lot of attention being paid to this situation, so i expect the Saints to make every attempt to get Shockey more involved in the offense. If the injury is causing him to be less effective, that's one thing. But I don't think the Saints will totally turn their back on Shockey unless they have good reason (injury).

Same thing this week.

Brees was clearly unimpressed with Shockey today. He was yelling at him on the sidelines and Shockey was on the bench by himself for a good stretch of the game. Meanwhile, Miller caught almost everything thrown his way and was a fantastic TE. Brees definitely has more trust in Miller.

Shockey looked like his old self and would likely be cut if his name wasn't Shockey.

I posted this a long time ago but according to some sources I have, months ago Miller was told he would be a huge part of the offense - I was even on the Audible with Cec talking about it. Payton told him (before Shockey finally arrived) that there were three types of NO players. I can't recall the exact words but he told Miller that there were guys who were just guys, guys who were useful and guys they were counting on and needed. He told Miller that he was one of the last group and they were going to need him to step up - if I recall correctly, they were talking about getting him 40 catches - not targets, catches - this year.

Then Shockey came and that all took a back burner until Shockey got hurt. But how they have used Miller since shows they still count on him quite a bit.

Of course, the 40 number is long gone -and maybe a motivational ploy to begin with, who can tell? But he's on pace for between 20-30 catches and if Shockey can't pick up the pace, who knows.

You have to think Shockey is going to get every opportunity to succeed even if Brees is yelling at him for missed blocking assignments (which is what I believe their spat was about). Heck, Payton has gotten in Miller's grill too this season.

But I still think Miller is a good guy to have on a roster and might continue to be a decent play down the road.I think when the chips are down, Brees knows by now he can trust him.

My  FWIW

Miller's got 28 catches already, and is 8th in total yardage for all TE's at 388 yds.

FWIW, the spat on the sidelines was about a hot route where Shockey was not where Brees wanted him to be. I was a bit surpirsed, honestly, how Brees was all in his face and Shockey was just kinda nodding his head, saying a few things, but not talking back in the slightest. At one point he got up off the bench apparently to talk to Brees but stopped, shrugged his shoulders and went and sat back down. This looks like a 1 year affair to me.

Yeah, I think 40 catches is pretty much a given at this point, if he remains healthy. Depending on how much Shockey continues to have an a#$@ where his brain is Miller could win up with another 25-30 by the time the season's over.New Orleans was 2nd in the league coming into week 10 in receptions and yardage by the TE, averaging around 80 yards a game to the position. They were good for another 7 catches and 80 yards this week. Brees has shown that he will use all of his targets in the passing game. If Miller has his confidence and Shockey doesn't......The Saints throw enough that I could still see 3-4 targets a game for Miller even if Shockey shapes up(which I don't expect to happen, truthfully. The guy's a douchehorse.) If he can catch 3 balls a week for around 40 yards the rest of the way he'll have 600+ yards. I'll take that from an off-the-scrap-heap TE anytime.

You're right - I totally misread the stats I was looking at. Thanks for the correction. Then the 40 catches are within reach.
