Saints K Garrett Hartley OUT 6-8 Wks or MORE (1 Viewer)

Please post any news about Hartley's injury here.

Normally I don't care about kickers, but a kicker in that offense.... I care.

The New Orleans Saints signed former Carolina Panthers kicker John Kasay on Tuesday.

Kasay was signed because kicker Garrett Hartley sustained a hip injury while kicking an extra point in Sunday's preseason game at Oakland. It's unclear how much time Hartley is expected to miss.

Per Rotoworld...

Coach Sean Payton downplayed the minor hip injury that sidelined Garrett Hartley late in Sunday's game.

Payton does not think the tweaked hip is serious. He also confirmed that Hartley was not kicking extra points purely for precautionary reasons. It sounds like Hartley is merely day-to-day and can still be selected as a top-10 fantasy kicker.

Kasay wouldn't be their answer at kicker anyway.

I think an extra point is beyond Kasay's range these days.

Why do they need him? They can just two-point conversion them to death. Who needs a kicker? Except for all the kickoffs they do.

They wanted someone to kick in the last preseason game.

Plus, I think they can pay kasay less with his social security checks making up the difference.

Kasay had remained solid for years, and still has 50 yard plus range. I like Mare, but was quite disappointed to see the Panthers cut Kasay.

James Varney of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports Saints kicker Garrett Hartley hopes to be out 6-8 weeks but it could be 8-10 weeks, according to a league source. Hartley is in considerable pain with hip flexor.

Glad in a yahoo league where I couldnt load the draft app and was autodrafted, I dropped Hartley instead of Crosby for Burleson

It is because I drafted Hartley in all FBG survivor leagues I was in. Flush goes those chances. NO PK in IDP and now just one in league 9. Crappers for careful planning on the week 11 bye on a high scoring team

This dude is a mess. Kickers aren't supposed to be preseason stories and between suspensions and injuries his past three seasons have been the equivalent of a kicker soap opera.

Looks like Kasay is the guy? Still waiting to see confirmation though Saints website lists him #1 on depth chart....
I haven't read anything that would indicate Kasay isn't starting as PK for the saints while hartley is rehabbing the injury. Certainly through week 1 he is a safe bet.

Having trouble finding injury update on him. Has anyone seen anything on whether he still may be out for several weeks? Deciding about picking up Kasay.

I dropped Suisham for Kasay prior to the Thursday night game, expecting him to kick for at least 6 weeks. Haven't heard anything differently since. He played well too.

Per Rotoworld:

Saints placed K Garrett Hartley (hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.

"Hartley's recovery timetable had him on pace for a post-Halloween return. John Kasay has yet to miss a kick, so the Saints may have decided it was too much of luxury to carry two kickers for another 4-5 weeks. The organization remains high on Hartley's future, so he'll almost certainly be back as the primary kicker in 2012."

at least now i dont have to pick up another kicker
