Saints needs as per NFL.com

RB, OL, Specialist, LB, CB, S

Needs Analysis: A big running back to give the team a better inside presence is important. The challenge for the Saints is, how much of the draft do they dedicate to that high-scoring offense when the defense struggles to stop teams? Even though the Saints have been active in free agency in the secondary, a hybrid safety/cornerback would be a very good fit.

Why is it that everyone THINKS that one of the Saints needs is RB ? The fact is that the RB position is probably the strongest next to QB and DL. IF, and that is a big IF, they take one it's simply due to Payton's ignorance that he can outscore anyone. The pick should and will be defense, hopefully LB, or they will trade down, which should be the absolute method of operation.

I agree with you but still bet they take Wells if he is still on board here! They feel he will fill McAllisters shoes I guess. They will be first on offense and last in d again next year and you wonder why? better then the  days I guess.

Jenkins is a steal here. The guy has been underrated ever since running that 4.5 at the combine. And I don't buy the "have to move to safety" talks. The guy can play CB, and play it very well.

If the Saints really wanted Wells, they wouldn't be telling everybody that for three weeks prior to the draft. It's a smokescreen. It'll be a defensive player. Either Cushing, Matthews, Possibly Jenkins, but I think Peria Jerry is someone to keep in mind. Ellis and Perry would be quite a handful for offenses to deal with in the middle, and would be part of a pretty darn talented d line with Smith and Grant on the ends. It's a longshot, but he might be the BPA at that spot.

Everyone pretty much knows who is taking who now a days in order for teams to jocky for positiong. There is not as much smoke screening as most think.

Wells will be a saint if he is still on board when they pick. I will bet you on it. Anyone wanna bet? It's looking more and more like he won;t be there anyway. Bengals want him to stay in state to sell tickets even though they need one of them top OT worst. The Brown way is Wells with 7th pick of draft!

I would love to bet you on that. I think it is crazy talk that the Saints would use their only pick in the first 3 rounds on a RB when the defense is clearly and inarguably the reason they did not make the playoffs last year, and the RB position was just fine.

I agree with you that Wells is probably gone by 14, but I don't think teams know what other teams are going to do based on a bunch of analysts predictions. The Saints probably would like to trade back, and they realize that Wells will be one of the more coveted players left(if he's left). If they convince everyone that they want Wells, it makes it easier for them to trade back. In my opinion, there is no way the Saints take a RB in round 1. It just doesn't make any sense.

if Jenkins is available, take him. if not, trade back and pick up an OLB. it's simple.
:lmao:Mccallister has been a non-factor in the #1 offense for the past 2 years! What is there to replace? You guys who say Wells is the pick if he's there are out of your mind. If it happens, Payton should be fired and management should be replaced.

fwiw - i think i read somewhere that he worked out for the saints recently. he is on their radar, if nothing else. i am sort of resigned to the fact that they will draft jenkins at 1.14. he's too good to pass up there. the saints don't need him exactly because of relative depth at the position but he's BPA. i think they would rather draft a OLB but no one really fits their draft position. if they can move back in the round and pick up a R2-3 pick then i think they will. they just want to fall back to 1.20 maybe...

So let's see here. The #1 offense from last year, mostly throught the air, is going to take a rb that can't catch or pass block and they'll improve their offense with the #1 when they don't have a #2 pick. So they wouldn't be improving the defense until the third round........I think not.

I think Cushing is the pick here.

Wells and Marino will still be on the board at 17 or later BOOK IT

Yikes! Some people still buying into Wells at #14? One guy even suggesting he'll go to Cincy at #6 with their OL a mess and other needs?

Waaaaaaaaay too much fantasy football influence in this thinking. Yes, Payton mentioned having a back on the team with some power. No, he's not using up his 1st rounder on Wells. Not a chance in Hades. They need defense, good options on defense will be available, and they'll draft defense.
