Saints Stallworth Held Out (1 Viewer)

Not a good offseason for Donte Stallworth. The incident where he was pulled over and got angry because the cop didn't know he was Donte Stallworth kind of tells you what this guy is all about. What are the Stallworths and Mike Wills thinking? Incredible.

Hey DD,I have a friend who has (had) some business dealing with Stallworth. I won't go into details other than to say they're not doing business anymore. This kind of stuff we're hearing about his is entirely consistent with what I've heard in the past.

When he was here at UT, it wasn't much different. Sad because he's in incredible talent.

I worked in sports TV for awhile and saw some glaring examples of athletes and ego that were stomach turning. My favorite example was one time we went to interview a bunch of Lions and we talked with Mike McMahon. We had a news reporter with us and she wanted to interview Mike because she liked his "shape."

Reporter: "Can you give me your first and last name and spell them both please (standard broadcast procedure)."

Mike: "You don't know who I am?"

Reporter: "I'm sorry I'm not a big football fan."

Mike: "I'm the quarterback for the Detroit Lions."

I almost laughed. No Mike, you are the backup QB for one of the worst teams in football and you stink. That's what I wanted to say but I liked my job.

Incredible.

I could swear I saw a post here today that he missed the morning practice and played the afternoon one.

That's classic, DD.I don't know if it you saw it this way or not (but it sounds like it from your story) but it's been my experience that it's usually the 2nd and 3rd tier guys who are the tools thinking they're big shots and the top guys are surprisingly pretty cool. Sure there are lots of stories about a big shot being a turd but lots of times, I've seen the top guy acting cool and semi humble and it's the backup who's expecting everyone to jump through a hoop for them. I agree it's pretty incredible.

Thanks for sharing the story.

I've spent time with Gordie Howe, Ernie Banks, Roy Campanella, George Foster, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and The Mad Hungarian and all but Long were top notch. I was completely in awe of Howe and Banks but they were both great and Banks in particular was extremely impressive. I've talked with Terry Bradshaw on three separate occasions and I think he is a great guy. He knows he's important, but he settles in especially if anyone around is from Louisiana.

So given that, I would agree that the first tier guys I have met...are for the most part pretty solid guys. If you want to talk music personalities and actors, then we have a different story.

He did. Link
*I think the WR as a whole look 100% better than last year. There will be some real battles during camp and Hass isn't even here yet. Stallworth was back. Jammal Jones made a sick juggling one handed catch. C. Horn made a bunch of nice snags. Joe was Joe.

Yes, there was conflicting reports there. The Saints official site (specific link given in our Blogger where we always give our readers the exact story link) had this quote:
WR Donte' Stallworth was held out of both workouts on Saturday by Payton for disciplinary reasons. Stallworth will be back working with the team on Sunday, according to Payton.
The Saints board that you posted obviously had folks that said he worked out.As far a other sites posting stories here on our Footballguys.com message board, we'll always replace when we have that content already on our Footballguys.com blogger.

Understood.

I think the Saints official site has not been updated yet to reflect the results of the afternoon practice. Payton's morning practice report is up, but his afternoon practice report is not.

There's another report that Stallworth did practice in the afternoon session: Link

The flipside of that is an undisciplined team that doesn't play up to its potential thus denying the team a playoff bid in the first place.

I like what I see from the coach. I think he has a fair balance - he did allow Stallworth back this afternoon.

The Advocate (from the Blogger article today)

Payton held WR Donté Stallworth out of the morning practice because Stallworth was late for a team meeting. He returned for the afternoon practice. …
New Orleans Pro Football
Minicamp day two saw head coach Sean Payton continue to exert himself as a no-nonsense, business-first head coach.

Foremost made an example of was wide receiver Donte Stallworth.

"He didn't practice today. I told him I didn't want him to practice," Payton said after Saturday's first practice. "There's certain expectations I have for this team. He's no different than any of them and I leave it at that.

"We'll see him out here tomorrow. There's certain things that we're going to do the right way. There's certain ways we're going to be on time, meetings and all that other stuff, so we're not getting sloppy.

"I don't want anybody to get sloppy. I wasn't happy with a few things and we'll leave it at that."

Stallworth, accused in the media of "loafing" and not getting with the new staff's program, reappeared at the 3pm afternoon practice and wasn't "sent home" for the day. So perhaps the message that Payton sent went through. It is a bold and impressive show of force for a young rookie head coach who is not afraid of flexing some disciplinary muscle.

Stallworth and Lelie could be the biggest 1-2 busts in the first round amongst WRs in a long time....

Javon Walker was the other first rounder that year, and although he had a great season, even he got traded....

absolutely LOVE Stallworth this year.
What is your reasoning? Not disagreeing but I'm curious what your thoughts are here.
his ppg (ppr scoring), as well as his receptions, yards, and TDs, have steadily improved the last 3 years:8.3

10.5

12.9

I love the fact that Aaron Brooks is no longer there, and I think the offense will improve because of it. They didn't add any other significant talent at WR, and the depth chart behind Stallworth and Horn is not that impressive. Joe Horn says that Joe Horn is another year older, and despite what Joe Horn thinks, Joe Horn is NOT in the best shape of his career.

I think Stallworth is the #1 WR option in New Orleans this year. 77/1033/8

Excellent analysis here

Ill just say this:

Im 100% certain he had a drug problem in college.

I would be very surprised if that we're still not the case.

STILL PUNISHED? Wide receiver Donté Stallworth, who was disciplined for being late by being held out of Saturday's workouts, was sidelined for parts of Sunday's practice. Stallworth had minor offseason shoulder surgery, and at times stood around flexing his left shoulder. But Payton wouldn't say whether Stallworth was being singled out.

"There are certain things that we expect," Payton said. "There are no fixtures position-wise on this team. There are no staples. Especially on a team that was 3-13. We'll see."

Did you actually see Stallworth doing drugs multiple times in college? I'm sure you're basing it on some type of evidence, so what is it?

Who did not have a drug/alcohol problem in college? If you did not, you missed out. Those were great years to waste. :banned:

You'll be throwing Mike Williams and Chuck Rogers in this sentence soon.
