Saints to release FS Dwight Smith (1 Viewer)

TB is foolish if they do not get him back...I imagine he would like to pop some of the player on NO as well and he can play them twice a year. He would start.

to STL, with Haslett.... take it to the bank..
 If he can push Jermaine Phillips to the bench, I'm all for him coming to TB. But he wouldn't start over Will Allen (it would not be bad, but wouldn't really be an upgrade), so the best he'd get is NB, which is why he left.

He wants to be a corner.

KC???

STL sounds pretty solid though. They still have the cap room to sign him?

cowboys please
Roy Williams and Dwight Smith would be a dirty, dirty combo.

I just don't get this. Anybody know why he is being released? Smith was really good last year, and I thought he showed enough talent that he might have been a good option at corner for the Saints.

Anybody know of any beefs he might have had with the new coaches or something? There hasn't been any explanation locally.

Not with the coaches, but the ownership, from what I have been reading.I would think STL/TB/DET are his best options.

I'm pretty sure Haslett would want Dwight Smith over Fakhir Brown if he had his pick. Didn't Brown play NB for the Saints?

Think I'd rank them:

STL

DET

TB

Boy, I'd like to see the Ravens get in the mix. Right now Ed Reed is the only experienced Safety on the entire roster. They drafted a guy in the fourth or fifth round, and there's talk that Dale Carter might move from nickel back to Safety, but I think he'd be a very good fit in Baltimore.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the Bucs sign him but this guy is a legend in his own mind.

STL makes sense. I wonder how Faulk affects things with the cap. It'd be nice if he'd just retire, since he's pretty much done. But since greed drives us all, he'll probably just go on IR and collect his paycheck.

i beleive once a player is on the ir, they dont count against the salary cap.. so i think they could easily have room, i think faulk cap hit is a sizeable one.. peace

At least he's not garbage, like Jermaine Phillips.I did a radio show with him last fall and he is a ####### idiot. Someone asked him if he could get a clean hit on any RB in the league, who would it be? He said "Kevan Barlow, because he ran me over for a TD before."

Why does that make him an idiot???? Seems like the right answer to me.....I hear its between the Bucs and Vikings, and that Minnesota is offering more money right now and a NB spot.......

Dwight visits the Vikings on Monday:

Obviously, Tomlin is making the big push here. The Bucs should pay whatever is necessary to get him back and keep him away from Minny.
Smith wouldn't have a place unless he played SS. I doubt he wants to back up Will Allen, or play Nickel back again. If he does, then he's more than welcome back.

Gruden/Allen gave Bolden/Mario Edwards rediculous sums of money to play nickel back.

The Vikings don't make sense since Sharper had a pro-bowl year last year. Unless it's to play SS, I don't see it.
Well, happily, I was wrong. It sounds like the Vikes are going to move Sharper to SS.Dammit I wish they'd drafted Derrick Johnson instead of Troy Williamson last year. Paired with Greenway the Vikings' linebacking corps would look pretty good too.

The key to this defense is still the d-line, which looks to be the team's strength. Pat Williams was a monster last year. Kevin Williams was injured and overweight last year but indications are that he's good to go this. Same with Udeze. And as the season progressed, Erasmus James really showed he could be good. Now with a full camp (he held out last year) he could be even better.
