IDP Salary cap league. 50 player roster $1000 salary cap

What is a good salary structure for rookies based on a pick by pick basis? Can anyone recommend a structure that works based on experience?

I was thinking something like this.

1.1 through 1.3 - $40

1.4 through 1.6 - $35

1.7 through 1.9 - $30

1.10 through 1.12 - $25

2.1 - 2.6 - $20

2.7 - 2.12 - $15

3.1 - 3.6 - $10

3.7 - 3.12 - $5

4.1 and back - $2

Hoping for a few comments from owners/commishes with experience in salary cap leagues. TIA

Zealots has a salary cap specialty league called ZFAC (Zealots Field Auction and Contracts) league: It's IDP with 53-man (max, most don't carry the full amount) rosters in addition to a taxi squad (max of 2 years). Each team has money from which to pay salaries and sign free agents - players on taxi squad are still paid, but don't count against the cap. The cap is $5,000. That being said, this is our table (roughly divide them by 5 to see what we've done):

QB, RB and WR

Rd 1 = $300, $15 steps, $180 minimum

Rd 2 = $150, $10 steps, $80 minimum

Rd 3 = $60

Rd 4 = $45

Rd 5 = $30

Rd 6 = $20

TE, LB, DB:

Rd 1 = $120, $10 steps, $90 minimum

Rd 2 = $80, $5 steps, $50 minimum

Rd 3 = $40

Rd 4 = $35

Rd 5 = $30

Rd 6 = $20

PK, DL:

Rd 1 = $100, $5 steps, $80 minimum

Rd 2 = $70, $2 steps, $60 minimum

Rd 3 = $35

Rd 4 = $30

Rd 5 = $25

Rd 6 = $20

I think having rookie salaries directly tied to veteran salaries is a better way to do it than just trying to set some static amount. That way as positions rise and drop in value, the rookies salaries will reflect that, which I think they should. If you were just setting a static amount I'd think you should adjust it when values change, so why not just tie them to the real values anyway. Many ways you could implement that. We work off an average of the bottom half of starters at that position. So first we figure out how many players start in fantasy at each position, then we rank the rostered vet players (as of the end of the previous season) in that position by salary and find the average salary of the players who would be the bottom half of fantasy starters (when ranked by salary). So if you have 12 teams and you start 1 QB, you take the 12 highest paid QBs, throw out the top half (QBs 1-6) and average the salaries of the bottom half (QBs 6-12). For RBs (12 teams, start 2), you would have 24 RBs so you'd average RBs 13-24. And that amount is what a 1st round player at that position costs. Our round 2 players cost 2/3 what a 1st rounder does. 3rd round players cost 1/3 of a 1st rounder. Of course you can have your salaries drop off however you want. You can have the starting salary be pick 1.1 and then pick 1.2 is minus 5% of what pick 1.1 would have been, or whatever looks right to you.

Is this a startup league? How many teams?
Sorry, forgot to add, 12 team startup.
How are you determining the veteran salaries? Why not just slot the rookie salaries based upon an average of a few other Dynasty Startup League Drafts and use their ADP as a decent approximation?
The veterans will be auctioned off. Winning bid = veteran salarySo I guess I don't exactly know what the veteran salaries are going to be. Just going off of a guess really.

If you are starting up, you are better off having all players including rookies in the initial auction. A large part of the benefit of having an auction is to give everyone equal footing for the players. That's something you especially want when you first start up. A rookie draft would just detract from it.While you should indeed decide the method for determining the rookie salaries before you auction, you still have a year before you need to actually know what those exact numbers will be.
