SalaryCap Structure (1 Viewer)

I have been playing dynasty football for nearly 10 years now with contract caps and RFA, but have never been a part of a salary cap league. I am in the process of creating a new dynasty league that will feature a true salary cap .

Does anyone have any rules that they are willing to share as a model of how they do things in regards to cap increases etc..

thanks

please feel free to share the pros and cons you have experienced in your league

Feel free to look over the rules here. Strongly based on a fairly old league that Bob Henry is in.

The basics. 3 year contract at the salary the player was acquired at, either in vet/initial auction or blind bid waivers. Hard cap set at a price equal to $10 per roster spot. Between year 2 and 3 you can exercise a 1 year option to buy a 4th year, or a 2 year extension to buy a 4th and 5th year. Both require raises which go into effect immediately in year 3, of 20% or 40%, with $5 and $10 minimums. Contracts cannot otherwise be altered including during trades, the contract stays as-is until the player hits waivers or the contract runs out.

There are also a franchise tag and 2 transition tags which give you right to match the winning bid on a player, or you get compensation, but they have to get a minimum salary of average of top 5 (or top 10 for transition tag) salaries at their position, and/or a raise over their previous contract. The tag stays on the player for the duration of his 3 year contract, though if the player is cut or traded it can be used on someone else, but they can't reacquire the previous player during his 3 years unless the tag is free to be put back on him.

Rookie salaries are the average of the bottom half of starters at the position when sorted by salary. So since we have 12 teams and each team starts 2 RB each week, that's 24 RBs, so a 1st round rookie is priced at the average of the 13th to 24th highest paid RBs.

Note that the rest of the league setup is very non-standard so I wouldn't pay much attention to the actual salaries in the league as reflective of what yours might be.

i strongly recommend salary/contract leagues - they add a new dimension or two to roster decisions and allow for more creative trades.

our league had a complex set of salary determining factors that often resulted in confusion & random pockets of uber-lowpriced & uber-highpriced players and the league voted to make salaries based on the latest footballguys projections as of Cut Day...we're currently revising the rules regarding determination of salaries, but we will still be keeping salary increases (that vary for a variety of situations) and a hard cap (salaries grow at 10% and cap grows at 8%) and opportunities to cut your losses by cutting a guy before his contract is up & only having to take 1/2 the cap hit in future years. we also have a half price portion of our draft were u can get some bargains if you are willing to wait that long & risk the player being taken by someone else. imo the key to it all is keeping it rigorous & challenging, but also allowing owners opportunities to cut their losses with some consequences. once teams think they're out of contention before the season even starts you're gonna have a high turnover. i also recommend incorporating ideas to keep the free agent pool fresh such as limiting roster size, contract lengths etc. if interested let me know and i'll share our updated rules with u when they're done.

I do not have the rules up online, we distribute via email.

If you send me a PM with an email address, I would be glad to forward.

This is my favorite salary cap league:

GMX

I like using a cap with a $1 minimum with $1 increments and a total cap in the $10k to $30k range ...

For initial formation I prefer auction because it sets a true value for players. Also, if you use contracts with dead money it adds a different twist like the NFL where a franchise can slide into "cap hell" ...
