Sammy Morris (1 Viewer)

Taylor missed his second straight day of practice today and Sammy has had 2 decent fantasy weeks in a row (ppr league).

I've picked him up as a bye week fill in and am starting to think he could have a decent week. He'll probably get any goal line carries and is good for 3-4 catches and 40-50 yards rushing.

Thoughts?

I guess it depends on what you think about the Denver D and the fact he's not the sole guy. I am not too excited by that prospect personally, unless I was desperate

ESPN just reported that fred taylor may be out for a while with an injury. anyone else catch that? i just picked up sammy morris and am gonna stash him on my bench and see how this plays out.

Maroney and Faulk will still be in the mix, but this does make Sammy an interesting play if you need a RB. I grabbed him last week just because there wasn't anyone else available in my 14 teamer. With DMC going down, I needed somebody. Between Sammy and Mewelde, I think I'll go with Sammy.

I saw that and am tempted by Sammy, but there are lots of other options for NE. Tough call here.

One thing i will say is that in the past Bill B. has shown that he'll stick with Sammy. He has produced some really good games in the Pats offense.

Grabbed Morris for a bye week fill in, hope he is the main guy. At least for this week.

Hmmm. Still a crowded backfield, and wondering if this opens up just a little more opportunity for RB-starved/larger redraft leagues.

Imagine the split of carries isn't going to change -- still spread evenly amongst Morris, Faulk, and Maroney, with a few more carries each. Or is it possible that Green-Ellis becomes more involved now?

Without knowing how the carries may shake out in Taylor's absence, would say that in PPR, Faulk becomes a little more valuable overall over the rest. In non-PPR, order of worth seems to be Morris, Maroney, Faulk.

Morris seems to be liked by Belichick the most, and seems to have cemented that favor with his last game. Maroney is still in the mix, but I can't see him being any more effective than he's been this year so far, let alone in years' past. Faulk has more upside than Maroney, but I think his touches are limited to 3rd/passing downs. Unless you are in PPR, I think Maroney and Morris might be the two to look at.

All this with the caveat that the sheer amount of people toting the rock in NE isn't likely going to be a fantasy boon even without Taylor in the mix for a while.

Thoughts?

I have memories of a couple years ago when Sammy Morris was "the man" for a few weeks - and he was a solid producer until he got hurt.

I picked him up hoping for more of the same.

Per Mike Reiss:

When the Patriots kept five running backs on their 53-man roster coming out of training camp this year, it was with situations like this in mind.Veteran Fred Taylor will be sidelined because of a right ankle injury that requires surgery. The surgery won't keep Taylor out for the season, barring an unexpected complication, but he will miss some time. The injury means the team's fifth running back, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, should now become part of the 45-man game-day roster. He has been active for only one of the team's first four games.Green-Ellis will join Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk in the backfield, and the Patriots likely will continue their committee-type approach. While Maroney has struggled at times, his presence as the team's fastest back -- and most explosive player in space -- takes on added importance.

Thinking of dropping Felix Jones for Morris, but Taylor may not be out that long. If he's only out a month then this is much ado about nothing.

It's anyone's guess how this plays out, but I think given that Belicheck leans the most on Morris given his proven track record. And the offense seems to hum best with Morris doing the heavy lifting and Faulk in the 3rd down/passing down role.

If Morris struggles or gets hurt again, it wouldn't shock me to see Green-Ellis get another opportunity like last year. He was pretty impressive when he had to fill in.
