San Diego Chargers cuts: (1 Viewer)

Sad to see Neal go. I think he had a real impact on LT2s numbers
Yeah but he's really done, He was basically talked out of retirement by LT and his wife for the last two seasons. He's 37 years old and about 4 inches shorter than when he entered the league. I don't see him playing anymore. Time to hang up the laces. One of the best to ever throw a block and with Mack Strong retired as well it's like the last true FBs of old have gone away.

Enter: Owen Schmitt.

Neal asked to be traded or released so he could have a chance to start for another NFL team as he wasn't happy with how Norv was (wasn't) using him. In his mind he's not done. We'll see if his phone rings, I'd imagine it will and we'll see him on the field for somebody in 2008.ETA: intelligible grammar

Funny to remember all the love Olivea got as a 7th round rookie starter; things move quick around here.

Of those three I think the McCree release leaves the biggest hole. Both Neal and Olivea basically lost their jobs/positions (though Neal lost it due to both an offensive scheme change and injury), while McCree was still a starter in the AFC Championship game. In losing McCree they lose their hardest hitting DB and their best run support safety. I assume this means Weddle gets his spot. While Weddle definitely is better in coverage and at playing the ball, I don't think he's as good at hitting or playing the run as McCree.

In short I think they'll need to find someone else who can be a physical safety and stop the run because I don't think Hart and Weddle will provide those skills.
