San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos Playoff Thread (1 Viewer)

Mr. Irrelevant

IBL Representative
How has no one gotten this bad boy rolling yet?

A lot of talking heads seem to be jumping on board the Charger bandwagon for this game, or at least predicting trouble for Manning, but I don't see it. Welker will be back on the field, forecasts call for a mild afternoon in Denver, and the Broncos have had the extra week off (downplay that last if you want, but the numbers don't lie: since the current playoff format began teams with the bye win at a .730 clip in the Divisional round).

IMO the Broncos could very well stumble in the AFC Championship, but it won't happen here ... 38-21 Denver.

San Diego has been on a Roller Coaster season to be sure. The last weeks of which were fun and all. To think that we could punk Mentalo and the d street band twice is asking a lot. here's the rub...We made it. Anything can happen now. Just ask the Bungles. Don't trip over that huge forehead on the way to the Super Bowl Denver-ites..

The Chargers have zero chance - ZERO.
stop it. Chargers have as good of a chance as anyone.

On paper, it should be an easy win for Denver, but what concerns me is:

  • McCoy's familiarity with Manning
  • Pagano's success facing him
  • the Chargers offense being able to convert 3rd downs and staying on the field, sustaining long drives especially against this defense.
  • Broncos WR's looking for flags rather than playing tough.
  • possible wind in the forecast, could play havoc with wobbly passes.

The Chargers have zero chance - ZERO.
Way to go out on a limb...lol. We'll see. Word out of Denver is that the Broncos never have to leave the practice field. They watch film on Manning's giant dome while going through drills. Geeeeeeeeeez this will be harder than I thought.

This is the Chargers Super Bowl.

The Broncos without Von Miller have zero chance of stopping the Chargers rushing attack. I favor the Chargers to win.

They shouldn't even have been in the playoffs in the first place. Plus they'll probably be without their two best offensive linemen and their best running back.

oh yeah? Well, Broncos will be without our best defensive player in Von Miller. SD's back-up C played really well vs Cin so not sure Hartwick will be missed all that much. From what I've been seeing, Fluker and Mathews will both go, they are just being cautious.

SD has an excellent chance this week.

That's cool. So, if I think they have a better than 5% chance, you'll lay me 20:1 on it? Say, my $100 against your $2,000?

I mean, if they have ZERO CHANCE, that's like a hundred bucks in free money for you, right? Just say the word and let's do this.

ill take chargers +9.5 . if they win I don't know, but I feel itll be a under scoring day and they will keep it close while killing the clock

They haven't even gotten all the leftover Norv stink off of themselves. How can they possibly win a another playoff game on the road?

Also, ZERO CHANCE I make a bet with a guy named mr. irrelevant - what would the point be? Now, had you been mr. relevant...

From SI:

If you can keep the ball away from Manning, you have a chance to limit the damage, and no team did that better this year than San Diego. Only twice were the Broncos held to fewer than 65 offensive snaps in 2013, and it was against the Chargers both times. In Denver's Week 15 loss to San Diego, the Broncos ran a season-low 54 plays, which was key to the Chargers' victory.

also two time the broncos where held under 400 total yards, both times vs SD

Aw man, I didn't even realize this. I was busy getting ready for hosting a Niners/Packers party last week and didn't watch the San Diego game. Didn't realize Mathews was hurt. That changes things a lot IMO. I really like San Diego's chances with Mathews pounding the ball 30 times against the Denver run defense, but I don't think they can do it with him hobbled.

Mathews has been nursing an ankle sprain for a few weeks now

Troll says ZERO....NFL stats say otherwise...lol ..If you are in there is a chance...It's NOT zero....Even Mannings Ginormous dome knows that...But I'm sure you know better. ...Truly I do.

Well, yeah, but he rushed 24 times for 144 yards in Week 17. So it sounds like whatever happened to him in the wild card round definitely changes things if he's injured to the point where he may not even suit up this weekend.

The Chargers have never beaten the Broncos in the playoffs - EVER, let alone beaten the Broncos in the playoffs in Denver.

SIGNIFICANT CHANCE

The Chargers have never lost a playoff game to the Broncos. Further, they have won road playoff games vs Manning.

The fact that I am already fantasizing about a AFCCG in New England, and dream of the Chargers getting payback for the 2006 loss to the Pats when the Bolts had an amazing team is not a good sign.....

Therefore instead, I imagine the Bolts lose a heartbreaker to the Donkeys....27-23 when Shareece Wright fumbles away an interception when all he had to do was go down.....(with the biggest surprise being him actually making an interception)

Why not Marshall, or Cox? Oh, that's right - because they suck even harder than Wright. Which is a lot of suck. Tons of it. How can Manning not throw for about 1000 yards and 17 TDs on Sunday?

ZERO CHANCE

Probably the same way that Ryan Mathews will run for about 200 yards and 4 TD's against a defense missing Von Miller, Kevin Vickerson, and Raheem Moore, featuring Paris Lennon at MLB.

GREAT CHANCE

That'd be great, except that Mathews won't be playing - he'll be getting his ankle tended to in the maternity ward back in SD.

Danny Woodhead / Ronnie Brown.

INEVITABLE

The key difference with this game is that the Chargers will enter the game with more confidence than ever they can beat the Broncos, and the Broncos will enter the game with more doubt than ever of their ability to stop the Chargers offense. I think this is probably a classic case of the Chargers "growing up" on Sunday and scoring a real solid win.

Groovus knows things.
Woah, haven't seen Despyzer in a while. Were you on a "vacation", or have there just not been any juicy Elway threads lately?
Well, I did have that initial 2 1/2 year ban for being too funny. After that, I guess I found better things to do. Now I'm looking for a timewaster again.

And John Elway is still one of the three most overrated QBs in the modern era (Vick and Eli being the other two).

Grooves employing the reverse jinx shtick. I like it.

Go BOLTS!
Unlike past Chargers playoff games, the beauty of watching this game will be having no expectations for the Bolts to win it. They could be up 28-0 at halftime and I will stick plan on them losing.

I do not like this zero chance mantra building up. Its clear that my confidence in them winning last week helped give them the mojo to win. Groovus is gonna kill the mojo if he continues to say zero chance. :(

I need to keep trying to undo his negative mojo.

Chargers are a lock!

I'm rooting for the Chargers as I would love to see Manning lose another first game in the playoffs. As crazy as it sounds though, as a Pats fan I'm more worried about facing SD at home than Denver on the road.

ur nuts
Perhaps but SD looks a lot more like the teams the Pats have struggled against the last few years than Denver. Denver's defense is probably worse than the Pats right now so I could see NE running it down their throats and limiting Manning's chances.

by the way - weather for this game will be windy - gusts up to 35 MPH. Not sure how that translates to the field, but I believe Manning struggles with wind more than cold. Winds coming from the WNW - the wind will be coming mostly sideline to sideline as opposed to end-zone to end-zone.

In theory, a wind favors the running game, SD's forte.

I would be very interested, just as a fan of football, to see Rivers get another crack at the Patriots. Rivers has played VERY well against the Patriots in their last three meetings. In a sense his success against Belichick has "earned another shot" at him in the playoffs.

game 1: 18/27 306 3/0

game 2: 34/50 336 1/1

game 3: 29/40 378 2/2

His completion percentage is notably through the roof versus the Patriots.

Hope we get another chance to see what Rivers can do.
