San Diego Chargers (1 Viewer)

I noticed FBG and Yahoo both have San Diego's defense ranked very high this week going against New England. They are ranked higher than Washington's defense playing St. Louis. I know San Diego is playing against a backup QB, but Washington is playing the no offense Rams. I don't want this to be a who should I start thing, but am I missing something here? Thanks for any input.

Yeah I don't get it either. I've been starting ARI over them. SD is #15 in my league scoring right now, and I don't really think they're going to turn it around much. The loss of Merriman really seems to make this an average defense.

The loss of Merriman coupled with the fact a lot of people seemed to think they could just pencil in the incredible # of big plays Cromartie made last year over a full season this year. He's a rare athlete but I don't think anyone could keep up that pace. There are many, many other reasons the defense as a whole isn't all that it was cracked up to be, but those are the two biggest reasons they aren't as good a fantasy defense as people were expecting.

I keep burning myself by following FBG's rankings in regards to San Diego's Defense but this week I have no choice but to ride them. One positive is that their defense has looked very good in the second half of the last few weeks... let's hope LT can control the clock and the defense can show up for the whole game!

plus, they're chumps.get ready for new england to spank dat ###, and san diego will be crying "revenge game!!" next time they play.

san diego is the worst team in the nfl. they get the absolute least out of all their play makers. i have rivers ranked jut under joe flacco this week.

Washington for sure is a better play, but SD did well last year vs NE with Brady so most sites have them in the top 10.

First off, I think the Pats might win this one handily with all the Chargers hurting. The Redskins only allow 85 yards per game on the ground but 4.1 per carry which is a bit higher than you'd expect for just 85 per game. Last game, Steven Jackson had 29 touches. If the non-Linehan regime feels giving Jackson the rock early and often is the key(I do) to any chance of success, going against a D that gives up 4.1 per carry is intriguing. It also puts the passing mistakes at a minimum which doesn't help for an FF D.

BSS, good game by SD. Hopefully for you guys, it's a step in the right direction and they build off this.

I'm actually wondering this week.... why are the Chargers ranked so high?

I realize they're coming off of their BYE and are playing the team that gives up like the 5th most points to D/STs on their own home turf. Plus they might be fired up to play for their new coordinator. But I don't think they've shown they can play well enough to be ranked that high.

... and on a related note. I think Bowe is too low, bro! He hasn't had a deep TD yet... but I think this could very well be the week.

You can't discount some of the things you've said....and I'll add a few.....home, off a bye, two weeks under Rivera with a more aggressive game-plan, weak opponent, Chargers high scoring offense will force KC to throw the ball a lot which is great for fantasy defenses (Sacks & INT's), etc. I expect a very nice FANTASY week from the SD D this week.

They are coming off of two weeks without Ted Cotrell, and I believe they get Jyles Tucker back this week too. Those should be enough reasons, despite Tucker not being Merriman.

I have to agree with the orignal post. There doesn't seem to be any rational for ranking them so high.

I think it is very clear that the SD D is overrated.

They are middle of the pack at stoping the run. They are dead last against the pass. They are middling for sacks, FR and Ints. In our league the avg 6.1 ppg.

Obviously rankings are subjective and prone to error but IMO SD D are ranked too high.

enough reasons to upgrade them... most definitely. But that high? Not in my opinion.I'd rather have the Ravens against Rosenfelds and Houston. Tenn against Grossman and the Bears... I think the Jets against StL is a good play this week too.
