San Francisco 49ers - link to new 2023 thread in latest post (2 Viewers)

Very reasonably priced, too. 2, 3, 4, & a 24 4?

And he’s relatively inexpensive. And still just 26.

Wow. Hope Lance is starting next year.
What do we have next year for the draft?

Shanny is gonna run him into the ground and kill him.

Aren’t we gonna have to pay Bosa a gajillion dollars pretty soon?

Idk about inexpensive, he has a cap hit of almost $20 each of the next 2 years.

I’m not a fan of playing for now. Team would need to be near 100% healthy to make a run at a Super Bowl this year with our bum at QB, so I’m more about playing for the future.
We have a 3rd and a 5th next draft.

I can see a trade or 2 to recoup some draft capital.
Unlikely. They’ll get a pick for Ryans though if he becomes a HC as anticipated.

Good job by the Niners, tremendous upgrade, don't abuse him, ease him in slow and try to resist turning it all into the McCaffrey show, get him involved in the passing game, Jimmy G will love him.

Big step in the NFC West, see how the Rams counter if they even can.

Kareem Hunt lurks

I think we have 2 3rds, a 5th, a 6th and 4 7ths.

I've said this for years, Shanahan wants to run an offense where every player can line up at every position no matter what play he calls.

Lombardi on Twitter (also saw the same from a few other sources)

The 49ers have gone into "F them picks" mode with this Christian McCaffrey trade. They now have only 2 picks in the 2023 draft: A 3rd-rounder and a 5th-rounder

Good for them going all-in. It’s cool to see teams try that. If they don’t win the title though this year that’s a little bit insane.

My confidence on Super Bowl this year is pretty low. If they’re like 3-6 and trading at 35-1, I’ll throw $300 at it for ****s and giggles. Took it last year around 25 or 30-1, need to look it up, I don’t remember, didn’t work out though.

Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t capable of winning a Super Bowl. The only real hope I have is Flacco. He’s always been a bum, but he had one amazing stretch of 4 games in him over his entire career to do it in the clutch. But I don’t think Jimmy has any Flacco in him, he’s just a bum.

My kids are gonna go crazy in the morning when I tell them. I’m pretty excited for that.

I guess that makes it worthwhile for me, even though the data and analytical portion of me screams **** this.

I guess not much choice, I’m on board, LFG!

Nick Wagoner on Twitter:

McCaffrey is a great player... when healthy. And those picks matter for a team with many big contracts on the books (and another on the way). Adding cost-controlled talent means more when your cap gets top heavy. I absolutely get why they made this move. But there's risk.

Maiocco:

This is not a rent-a-player situation, either.

Christian McCaffrey is under contract -- now with the 49ers -- through the 2025 season.

I get there's a lot of downside here but I feel like a lot of the reason Deebo @ RB is so effective (aside from his obvious talent) is it's a way to cut out the Jimmy G middleman. So adding a really explosive weapon that's even less dependent on Jimmy is intriguing if nothing else.

Also the whole history of the 49ers this century has really taught me that I'm not a "Super Bowl or bust" guy, I like a good team that doesn't quite get over the hump a hell of a lot more than a bad one. If they have to start tearing it down and rebuilding draft capital down the road, so be it, but I appreciate when teams try to make the most of things when the opportunity is there. They'll still need one of those weirdo Flacco runs as long as it's Jimmy back there, but those kinds of things do happen from time to time. May as well give yourself the best chance for it.

And we aren't draft poor because of this trade. We gave up our 2nd next year, but we still have a bunch of picks and will get more if Ryans leaves.

Might as well shoot our shot. The NFC is pretty weak overall.

Some fans just aren't happy no matter what.
They haven’t won a title since I was 10 years old, you said it yourself, we all think it. I now have a kid turning 10, I’m entitled to be unhappy.
I was also 10 when they last won. My 10 year old was the one who came running into the room to tell me the 9ers traded for CMC; he was ecstatic. I can't help but be caught up in his fervor, considering how doom and gloom I've been at times this season.

He's an electric player with an extremely reasonable salary (... for now... but I trust Marathe's magic to fix his contract to be more than a rental). With how weak the NFC seems right now, I'm all on board... Now let's hope acquiring an oft inured RB, by a team that has the worse injury luck, works out!

I'm the other way on this. I'm glad further analysis make it sound less expensive than it is but CMC is a back with a lot of tread on the tires and 20 million at rb is not how you build a winning team and it wasn't the missing piece for the 49ers.

I am hopeful it is for us but right now i see two weeks from now 8 picks sitting on IR between lance and CMC....prove me wrong CMC but this seems like high risk for not the right piece.

Have to think this impacts Deebo some. They won’t need to run him as much. It’s a heck of a trade, they may be the best team in the NFC if the D can get healthy.

Here's the correct updated picks the 49ers have next draft.

Here’s an updated look at their 2023 draft picks:

Round 3 (compensatory)
Round 3 (compensatory)
Round 5
Round 7
Round 7 (via DEN)

The 49ers acquired a seventh-round pick from Denver in the deal that sent linebacker Jonas Griffith to the Broncos ahead of last season. They’re also projected to receive fifth and seventh-round comp picks in the league’s comp pick formula. They could also wind up with an additional compensatory third-round pick if defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, perhaps the top name in the head coaching market, is hired as a head coach
