Maybe, but I doubt they traded all those draft choices and took on all that money just to use him as a decoy. You are right about the better offense, went from a team whose team total is 13 points to one that's 23 points this week.I could be wrong, but as a CMC owner, I dont love it. Better team/offense for sure. Will he be used the same? Will he get the same opportunities?
Hard to see it, but who knows.
I think the Rams show both the upside and downside of pushing the chips in and trading a bunch of picks for players. Doing so can definitely help you win a SB which is ultimately all that matters. But you also risk seriously crippling your future, possibly even right away. It worked for LA to take their shot and it could certainly work for SF too. But there’s also a ton of risk and if you don’t win it all it could look like a bad gamble. Huge risk, huge reward. They haven’t won a title since I was 10 years old, you said it yourself, we all think it. I now have a kid turning 10, I’m entitled to be unhappy. Some fans just aren't happy no matter what.
They're trying to win a SB. This could be a great move.
He's not going to contribute much this week. They couldn't wait a week?
Yes he will. I bet a Parlay that had the Chiefs involved in it. So now that McCaffrey is here he's going to totally bone me on this bet and go effing wild on the Chiefs. He's not going to contribute much this week. They couldn't wait a week?
No, I wouldnt say a decoy. but more mouths to feed so to speak. I could see similar production with less volume I suppose.Maybe, but I doubt they traded all those draft choices and took on all that money just to use him as a decoy. Welcome to the last 33 pages.just imagine if you guys had a qb
I don’t think it hurts Deebo at all. They’ll get both in the backfield or split both out wide or have formations with Aiyuk, Deebo, & CMC all lined up on one side, etc. They’re going to scheme the heck out of him, and JimmyG is going to dump off to him a ton.Have to think this impacts Deebo some. They won’t need to run him as much. It’s a heck of a trade, they may be the best team in the NFC if the D can get healthy.
You win.You know, I’m really starting to think they don’t have plans for Trey Sermon….
Shanny does that already - it’s just one more elite piece to play with.Just expect a lot of Deebo in backfield and CMC motioning to the slot, vice versa, a lot of trickery, misdirection, etc… you know, stuff that Pop Warner coaches implement in the playbook. That’s what I foresee with this move.
He’s just so predictable, that’s my problem with him.Shanny does that already - it’s just one more elite piece to play with.Just expect a lot of Deebo in backfield and CMC motioning to the slot, vice versa, a lot of trickery, misdirection, etc… you know, stuff that Pop Warner coaches implement in the playbook. I don’t see that at all. They get a lot of chunk plays causing confusion with that pre-snap motion stuff. They create mismatches & get the LBs over their skis trying to figure out who’s getting the ball. We’re gonna have both in backfield, defense keyed in on the two of them, and a QB who won’t even see Kittle 40 yards up the field uncovered, and if he does, his arm sucks so bad, the defense will be able to recover.I don’t see that at all. IMO Kittle’s groin is what held him back the first month. He was a decoy. It’s not that Jimmy didn’t see him. 49ers just didn’t want to use him while he was nursing the injury. We’re gonna have both in backfield, defense keyed in on the two of them, and a QB who won’t even see Kittle 40 yards up the field uncovered, and if he does, his arm sucks so bad, the defense will be able to recover.I don’t see that at all. Thinking on it more, my biggest problem is just that I don't think this team is close enough to contending to justify this kind of all-in trade. They've lost to 3 mediocre or worse teams and odds are they'll be 3-4 after this weekend. I just don't see them as being serious threats to come out of the NFC given the health of the defense and the talent on the OL (+ all Jimmy G's well-documented shortcomings). Hope they prove me wrong. I do agree with others (and others' kids) that they should at least be a more interesting product to watch, even if I think the trade is a product of reckless asset management. That deal is insanity given (1) Shanahan has proven to be able to get by with cheap RBs (yet continues to throw an a crazy amount of resources at the position anyway for reasons that are not clear), (2) they were already thin on draft capital, and (3) McCaffrey can’t and won’t stay on the field any longer than anyone else in that mash unit of a RB room. You thought he was hurt a lot before, wait until he meets the SF medical team. Yikes.
I don't think this team is close enough to contending to justify this kind of all-in trade.
I'm done.
This roster is wasting away with Jimmy at the helm.
49ers scored 30+ points 3 games in a row from Week 10-12 in 2021.
Since then they’ve broken 30 just once in the last 12 games (including playoffs), and are averaging just 20.5 points per game.
Pathetic.
Hell, might as well give Purdy a shot. He can't be worse than Jimmy.
If we don't fix the O-line, nothing else is gonna matter. We need a center and at least one tackle. McGlinchey is terrible, and Brendel is in over his head.
I dint know if this team will win 8 games this season.
I don't think this team is close enough to contending to justify this kind of all-in trade.
You're out of your mind.

You're out of your mind. Defense alone makes them a contender (with Bosa and C Ward healthy). As far as offense, Wilson/Coleman/Price doesn't scare anyone even though Wilson has looked good. Mitchell is still a few weeks away and who knows how he's gonna look the first game or so back.
The loss to Chicago is a throwaway given Lance's first start and the weather. Just bad luck. Losing to Atlanta was mostly because our defense was decimated and we couldn't run the ball. As for Denver....Russ made a deal with the devil to own SF, it is what it is.
Getting Trent back is huge for the offense, and now we have a legit pass catching RB. You can say he's gonna get injured all you want, but nobody has a crystal ball, and he hasn't missed a game yet this year.
If CMC does stay healthy, SF just punched their ticket to late January.
I'm done.

Crazy price to pay
Nothing I wrote suggests bitterness. This whole attitude that if you don't love every move, you are bitter, a hater, not a real fan, etc., is beneath you.I'm done.

So much birterness.
Way to put in work to reinforce my point. They needed to do something. I guess some fans are fine with a team resting on their laurels and saying "Yeah, we're fine with Wilson/Coleman. Why bother rolling the dice to try to get better?". I'm not one of them. If we don't get him, the Rams do. F that noise.
McCaf is one of 3 players in NFL history with 1000 rush and 1000 rec yards in the same season. Yeah me missed almost one full season and half of another, but the production potential is just too great, the cost isn't crazy, and we still have draft capital.
Everyone knows it's risky, but I'd rather my team take a swing than sit back and watch the rest of the division make moves to try and get better while we sit and twiddle our thumbs.
49ers only gave up a 2?How so? We gave up a 2nd but still have 3rd, 5ths, and 7ths, and will prob get compensatory picks before the draft. He will cost around 600k this season, and Marathe will work his magic with the contract after that.
A lot of people are stuck on the idea that he's costing a ton and that isn't the case
We gave up 4 picks, but we had plenty of mid to late round picks so we could easily afford it. The Rams couldn't.49ers only gave up a 2?How so? I have bad information. I'm reading, 2-3-4, 5th a year later.
Whatever picks the 49ers have left, and whatever comp picks they might get (fans are really bad at predicting these) doesn't change the price. The price isn't more reasonable because the 49ers still have a few picks

It was notable that RB was not among the critical weaknesses you have complained about while swearing off the team in recent weeks. The "they have to do something!" card doesn't immunize their approach from criticism.

They’re terrible? I don’t know? I’m not the one saying the Bucs will play deep into January. Don’t project your homerism onto me, I know what my team is.What was the Bucs excuse against the Steelers?
Not gonna lie: I like the move, but I am scratching my head as to why they had to do it. RB does not seem to be an important part of the niners system anymore

You new to online football forums?what's up with all the "we" posts. Didn't know so many people on this board worked for the 49ers.

I agree that the offense as a whole gets a bump but does Cmac get an upgrade over being the ONLY offense on Carolina's team? I think Deebo takes a hit for sure.... and Im not sure how Cmac can keep the same value with so many mouths to feed there. Im not suggesting he takes a huge hit but just seems like he would have to take a step back ( still top 10 for sure) to me.I don’t think it hurts Deebo at all. This is going to be a dangerous offense. CMC will help them get 1st downs. More conversions = more stats for all the 49ers offensive players. That whole offense gets a bump, IMO.’

He just needs to have a Trent Dilfer performance in the playoffs for SF to contendAlright fellas, let’s settle down. Outside of one unnamed poster who hasn’t been here in a while (and hopefully won’t be), we’re a cordial thread.
I think we all agree, injuries have hurt us bad this season. I’ve kind of settled into catch’s opinion as this team really isn’t Super Bowl Title ready (*unless 100% healthy).
Jimmy is the 2nd biggest blemish of the last decade only behind the Harbaugh situation. Last years run was made in spite of his atrocious play. If anything, I’d say he looks at best equivalent to Jimmy of 2021. And what he has shown time and time again is that at the biggest moments, in the biggest games, guy has pudding in his veins. This is why I was excited for Lance, the unknown is better than knowing in this situation.
Losing Moseley was big. I’d like to see some more Thomas and Lenoir back there. They each showed some potential imo last season, let’s see what they can do.
To me, CMC just wasn’t a need. But now we’ve given the offensive genius everything he has ever wanted: great WR core, top RB and TE, and a QB he wanted.
At this juncture, if this team doesn’t contend this season, the fire Shanny calls will hopefully start going from internet lunatics to front and center.
