*** San Francisco 49ers *** Mason SZN underway!!! (8 Viewers)

More info on Pearsall's lingering shoulder injury:

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall never missed a game throughout his five-year, 55-game college career.

And the 49ers are holding out hope he will not be sidelined for his first NFL game, either.

“I hope so,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan answered when asked if he expects Pearsall to be available for the Week 1 game against the New York Jets on Sept. 9 at Levi’s Stadium.

“We'll see how he is this week. Hoping to get back into practice this week. If he does, that's a pretty good sign that he could be available.”

Pearsall sustained a shoulder subluxation on Aug. 6 while appearing in his seventh practice of training camp. He missed the first four practices of the summer due to a hamstring strain.

A shoulder subluxation occurs when the ball of the shoulder partially slides out of the socket and then quickly pops back into place. Shanahan described it as “a pretty normal thing.”

Pearsall did not sustain any structural damage to the shoulder and, at this point, surgery is not a consideration.

It was the second time since the 49ers selected Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick in the draft that he experienced the condition. He did not miss much time during the offseason program when the injury happened in the spring. Pearsall continued to practice with a blue jersey to signify that he was off-limits for contact.

Shanahan said Pearsall also sustained a shoulder subluxation in college but downplayed the idea that the condition is chronic.

“He did it in college — I think his junior year,” Shanahan said. “About 50 percent of the people coming out of college do that. That wasn't really the problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us.

“When you do that, it's tender. Then he redid it here a couple weeks ago. It makes it tender, so you want to give him time to come back from it.”

Rapoport: Why the 49ers might look to trade for a pass rusher:

Link

The San Francisco 49ers got a scare on Friday night in their preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders when defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos suffered injuries.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that initial examinations revealed knee sprains for both players. They underwent MRIs today, but the results have yet to be disclosed as of this post.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggested that these injuries might prompt the 49ers to explore trade options for an edge rusher.

"You never want this to happen. But the cut-down day, which comes Tuesday, sometimes triggers trades. There are plenty of teams with excess edge help, so if the 49ers need it, still plenty of time to swing a trade."

Even if the injuries aren't severe, the 49ers may want to explore trade options to ensure their defensive front is as strong as possible when they host the New York Jets at Levi's Stadium on Monday, September 9.

If a cut candidate is likely to attract interest from other teams, San Francisco might be willing to trade a late-round pick to avoid the waiver claim process. According to Over The Cap, the 49ers currently have nearly $52 million in salary cap space, the most in the NFL.

Injury updates:

Leonard Floyd's knee injury is considered day-to-day, which is encouraging news for the 49ers as their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets rapidly approaches.

Yerur Gross-Matos' knee injury is more serious, but he's still considered week-to-week—better news than it could have been.

When asked if Gross-Matos' injury was severe enough to place the defensive lineman on the injured reserve list to start the season, Shanahan said, "I would not think so, with it just being week-to-week. We'll see how this week goes, and hopefully, he'll have a chance to get back in practice next week for Week 1. But no, we haven't mentioned anything about IR."

Dee Winters sustained an ankle injury against the Raiders, the severity of which is not yet known. The 49ers are currently awaiting the linebacker's MRI results.

"Ricky (Pearsall) will be practicing tomorrow," Shanahan revealed. "And then Huff (Hufanga), we'll have to make a decision on him before Wednesday's practice."

That decision, the coach confirmed, will determine whether Hufanga starts the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Where did you see that? I havn't really seen much news around Trent, I just assumed he didn't want to do training camp.
Clickbait this AM, all speculation, clock nearing midnight sort of thing.

Same stories about CeeDee & Aiyuk.

Nothing has happened, nothing will happen until it happens. Everything between now and then are wasted cycles.

Ugh, I can not wait for this offseason to be over.

Same.

I feel like Cowing can be the next Aiyuk in this offense, but we NEED Trent like NOW.

I'm so over Aiyuk, I'd tell him to pick one of the following:

1. Sign the extension offer
2. Play on his 5th year salary
3. Sit out and rot on the bench

That's it. I wouldn't entertain a trade at this point, hes either with us or hes not. I seriously think we would be fine without him.

WTF happened to Mitchell? I just drafted him 1 minute before the Fantasy Life app gave me the news. This seems really unexpected.

Lombardi:

The 49ers roster is far from finished. There are at least 2 players, Ambry Thomas and Jon Feliciano, who will be heading to IR as soon as they accrue one day on the 53-man.

SF will then re-sign 2 released veterans to take their spots. TE Eric Saubert seems to be an obvious one

Spending two picks on TEs in a TE-heavy draft and not even getting a replacement level player out of them is rough.
It is, but the 2024 draft looks pretty good so far. It's early, but I can't remember the last time so many rookies looked good throughout camp and preseason.

I think I said this before, but I'm only cautiously optimistic about the rookies. Cowing is the only guy that clearly played his way onto the team at the expense of veterans. Green was guaranteed a spot by virtue of his draft position and Puni's only competition in camp has been a 6th rounder who just got cut. Mustapha and Guerendo also play at positions that have been decimated by injuries (RIP Elijah Mitchell, by the way). I'm mildly worried about Pearsall's short and long term health.

To get reps/starts because of injury is one thing, to play well with those opportunities is another. Green, although handsy at times, is very sticky in man coverage, which is something we've needed and haven't had. Mustapha seems to have great instincts and is a tackling machine. Puni had an excellent preseason and was really good in camp/practice. Cowing looks ready to contribute immediately. Pearsall is a tad bit worrisome but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I think Guerendo will mostly be relegated to kick returns IMO.

I'm pretty excited to see how they all shake out.

Nick Wagoner thinks Green's going to get called for PI all the time if he sees the field very much. Puni's been fine. Nobody is raving about how awesome he's been, only that he hasn't crapped the bed as a rookie starter. Which is impressive, but nobody is confusing him for Quenton Nelson or talking about how he mauling people in practice.

I left out Bethune as someone who shows promise. It's notable that he beat out Jalen Graham, who I was fairly high on.

49ers cuts claimed off waivers or signed elsewhere:

CB Samuel Womack III —> Colts
OL Jarrett Kingston —> Panthers
RB Cody Schrader —> Rams
LB Jalen Graham ---> Commanders

Niners were 31st in waiver claim order and did not land any players off waivers.

Matt Maiocco on Trent Williams.

This is getting complicated. Trent Williams was originally scheduled to make $20.05 million in base salary this season. He has incurred at least $4.6 million in mandatory fines, in effect, lowering his salary for the upcoming season to $15.45 million.

He has no guaranteed money remaining on his current deal. In theory, the 49ers could move around some of his future non-guaranteed money and make it guaranteed. In 2026, he is on the books to make $32.21 in base salary.

Matt Maiocco:

49ers practice squad (2 more will be added)

CB Chase Lucas
S Jaylen Mahoney
WR Tay Martin
DL T.Y. McGill Jr.
QB Tanner Mordecai

49ers rookie RB Isaac Guerendo tweaked his groin on Monday, per Kyle Shanahan. The hope is to have him back next week.

Brutal. I absolutely hated that pick when I read up on him. Such a reach.

Nick Wagoner:

WR Deebo Samuel, 2022 -- Re-signed w/ SF
