*** San Francisco 49ers *** Mason SZN underway!!! (33 Viewers)

You really don't expect to get robbed and shot in public during the middle of the day thou
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition either yet there they were.

Cmon. I went to NYC in the 70s and have family there. The 1st thing my relative told me was “don’t wear any jewelry.”

In the 1980s a kid I went to high school with was mugged at knifepoint in the Mission.

People get mugged at all times of day. It’s nothing new, not remotely.

Holy crap. WTF. Our major cities are becoming lawless hell holes. :(
Orrrrrr, don’t walk around flashing a Rolex in any major city or you might get robbed.

This isn’t a new concept at all.
C'mon, you should be able to be out in a nice part of the city in broad daylight with a nice watch. The amount of victim blaming people defending SF do is incredibly gross and part of the problem there.

I’m not blaming the victim at all. And I 100% agree, you *should* be able to walk around union square wearing a Rolex and not get robbed.

But let’s not pretend this is a new thing, because it’s not at all. I’m a SF native and have lived in the Bay Area my entire life other than a few years, and I would never in a million years flash a Rolex in SF. Ever. Not in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, etc.

I’ve walked around the city countless times and never been robbed. Putting a target on yourself with a flashy watch is only going to increase the odds. That’s not victim blaming, it’s common sense.

Anyway, Trent signed, Pearsall isn’t dead, and it’s kickoff on MNF. Let’s get this back to football.’

No, that's literally victim blaming. And it's one of the laundry list of rules SF residents have for visitors so they aren't the victim of violent crime. The city is not in a great place right now.

The 49ers converted $6.79M of Maliek Collins' 2024 salary into signing bonus, adding 3 void years, freeing up $5.432M of cap space for the upcoming season.San Francisco carries a league-high $50.5M of space into Week 1 according to our numbers.

Will be interesting to see the details on the new contract structure, as this number is currently inflated because Trent Williams is on the Reserve/Did Not Report list. Sounds like if the 49ers and Trent convert salary into bonus money, Trent's 2024 cap hit will increase from 10.757M but shouldn't return to its previous 31.657M cap hit.

If the 49ers don't convert any salary to bonus money, his cap hit will be at least 31.557M plus any raise.

We also had ~36 million rolled over from 2023. I also have no idea how the rollover stuff works, can we just carry it year to year until it's time to pay Purdy?

Here's Sportrac's full breakdown

It’s all magical beans at this point. Not my money - they’ll find a way to pay Purdy.

While I agree with HSG on his post below that SF has never been the safest of places, it has definitely gotten worse. Last time we went to Union Square, the vibe was really bad. Was walking to a Blues Club with my wife and some random guy with his eyes bugging out of his head is walking quickly right towards us. Fortunately I saw him soon enough and was able to put my elbow into his chest and knock him away and he backed off, but who the hell knows what his intention was. That, along with literally stepping over people camped out on the sidewalk and the area just seeming dirty was enough to make us not come back. Plenty of other places close by to spend our money. That was right before Covid hit, so hopefully it has gotten better in that area, but doesn't sound like it.

But yeah, pathetic that you can't walk around wearing a nice watch these days

Trent Williams' New deal is worth $82.6 million; he gets $48 million up front.

That is the most cash for any linemen in Year 1 and the most guaranteed money for any linemen since 2021. Williams will now surpass $350.8 million in career earnings, and his $183 million in total guarantees make him the richest non-quarterback in NFL history.

Per Williams’ agency, his 3-year contract extension is worth $82.66 million, including $48 million at the time of signing with a $25.69 million signing bonus.

Lombardi:

APY ranks, NFL offensive tackles:

1. Tristan Wirfs: $28.1m
2. Penei Sewell: $28m
3. Trent Williams: $27.6m
4. Christian Darrisaw: $26m
5. Laremy Tunsil: $25m

Williams had been at $23m. Looks like he and the 49ers found the sweet spot near the very top

Trent Williams had 3 years, $77.31M left on his original deal, with $0 guaranteed.

Williams' restructures will give him 3 years, $82.66M, with $48M at signing.

The #49ers tacked on $5.35M from his original deal, which should offset the $5.3M in fines Williams has incurred.

I'm just happy he's talking about playing 3-4 more years. One of my bigger concerns about this team has been the year-to-year speculation about whether he was considering retirement.

Nice, I hadnt heard this. Huge if he's serious.

Some salary cap stuff per Lombardi:

Deebo Samuel had carried a salary-cap hit of $28.6 million for 2024. By converting most of his $21m base salary to signing bonus, the 49ers lowered that hit to $12.2 million for 2024 — over $16m in savings.

49ers also managed to lower Trent Williams' 2024 cap hit to $17 million, so they will have over $60 million of 2024 salary-cap space — by far the most in the NFL.

The 49ers also entered last season #1 in cap space following the Nick Bosa contract.

This is a clear carryover strategy: taking advantage of cap inflation to increase spending ability now

The major takeaway here is that Deebo is likely back for 2025.

Man that’d be great. Concerned about Kittle tho.’

He will be 29 1/2 then too and has a history of injuries. Is he a cliff candidate in 2025?

Anything is possible but my belief based on how he's come into this season is that he won't show any signs of it this year so all we'll have is speculation on what could happen but it won't be based on anything negative we've seen.

More clarity.

54 mins ago) Coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) will be a limited participant at Thursday's practice, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The injury that forced McCaffrey to miss the entire preseason slate was termed a strained calf, but Shanahan tacked on Achilles in his session with the media Thursday. There doesn't seem to be much worry about McCaffrey's availability for Monday's Week 1 matchup with the Jets, but his status nonetheless bears watching in the coming days. Behind McCaffrey, Jordan Mason is the likely next man up at running back for the 49ers with Elijah Mitchell (hamstring, IR) out for the season, and Isaac Guerendo (groin) and Patrick Taylor also on the team's active roster.

Seems ok.

Bro, what?!

Kyle Shanahan says Brandon Allen will open the season as the No. 2 QB. Josh Dobbs will be No. 3

Not surprised
Kyle is Shanahan'ing again.
Allen knows the playbook better than Dobbs and was equally effective in the preseason. IMO let's save the criticisms of Shanahan for something more consequential than the failure to give a guy who has been cut by half the teams in the league the top backup job.

Seems precautionary but makes me wonder is the plan to lower McCaffrey's carries/touches for the season due to depth at the position.

:sigh of relief:

Nick Wagoner:

RB Christian McCaffrey (calf/achilles) on the practice field again Friday. Seems to be moving at full speed with no issue. We’ll hear from him a bit later on.

49ers' Christian McCaffrey: Looking healthy at practice

by RotoWire
(1 hr ago) McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) is practicing Friday and appears to be "moving at full speed with no issue," according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com.
49ers GM John Lynch said Friday morning that McCaffrey looks like his usual self and is expected to play in Monday's game against the Jets. McCaffrey was listed as limited Thursday on San Francisco's first official injury/practice report of the season, but it sounds like he may progress to full participation Friday or Saturday. His calf injury initially was reported the first week of August, about five weeks before San Francisco's season opener this coming Monday.

CMC listed as Q

OUT
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
LB Dee Winters (ankle)

DOUBTFUL
S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)

QUESTIONABLE
RB Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles)
G Aaron Banks (finger)

Barrows:

Kyle Shanahan said CMC's calf injury is similar to the one he suffered in Week 17 last season. McCaffrey did not practice in the runup to Week 18 (the starters were mostly hold out of that week's game) and was limited in practice for the divisional round of the playoffs.

Should this be taking as good news?

Asking for a friend who has pick 1.1 in a big league in a few hours, lol.
