*** San Francisco 49ers *** Official thread (3 Viewers)

Pretty crazy this team has now been to the SB three times in the last 11 years with 3 different QBs.

2012 Colin Kaepernick
2019 Jimmy Garoppolo
2023 Brock Purdy

We gotta bring it home this time.

Akash:

One thing that’s glaring from all of these #49ers pressers:

The defensive effort the last 2 weeks is being scrutinized as badly as I’ve ever heard it during this recent run.

They know they can’t afford that type effort vs. Mahomes/Kelce. Hopefully it results in better effort.

"Quite honestly, it was embarrassing."

-- Steve Wilks on the pursuit -- or lack thereof -- on two Detroits TDs on Sunday.

Rewatched the AFCCG. If SF's defense can play 75% as well as Baltimore's did, the Niners have a real shot. I wish the Niners had Kyle Hamilton. (Also, if Purdy plays as bad as Lamar did, we'll never hear the end of it.)

Yeah, secondary really misses Hufanga. Brought so much energy and big play ability. Similar to Hamilton.

Hamilton is much better in coverage but yeah. I thought Hufanga was overrated last year but they sure have missed him late this season.

My biggest question from the Lion game is how the heck did Cameron Latu get to the Lions bench so quick at the end of the game. It was 50 secs max in a crowded field. We got a quick TE in training!

RUN THE DAMN BALL ALL DAMN DAY!

Akash:

The 49ers are #2 in the NFL in Adjusted Line Yards when running behind Trent Williams.

The Chiefs are #29 in the NFL in Adjusted Line Yards defending runs that are behind the left tackle.

SF's offense is #1 in DVOA on first-down runs
SF's offense is #2 in DVOA on second-down runs

KC's defense is #25 in DVOA on first-down runs
KC's defense is #26 in DVOA on second-down runs

In the AFCCG, Patrick Mahomes averaged 3.4 air yards per completion and the throws were an average of 3.6 yards short of the sticks.

What a checkdown merchant.

NFLPA exec Lloyd Howell Jr. says 49ers field at UNLV “isn’t nearly up to snuff with what our players deserve. Hopefully we’ve gotten to a working condition.”

NFLPA president JC Tretter takes exception to NFL commish describing it as “playable,” that it’s not same as high quality.

Publicly, the 49ers are taking the high road. But, behind the scenes, they are furious with how the NFL botched this.

Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey win FedEx Air Player of the Year and Ground Player of the Year, the first time teammates have won the award in the same season.

During the reg season, Purdy won FedEx Air Player of the Week 3 times (led all quarterbacks) and McCaffrey won FedEx Ground Player of the Week 5 times (led all running backs).

Kristin Juszczyk surprised Brock and Christian with their very own custom jackets for winning FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Year (video):

I guess this is a little internally contradictory, but I both expect the Niners to lose and am also a little surprised that everyone in the media is singularly focused on what Mahomes’s legacy will be after winning a 3rd Super Bowl as opposed to who will win the game. Even Matt Barrows was pretty morose on the Athletic NFL pod this week.

Everyone is acting like Mahomes cannot possibly be beat in a Super Bowl at this point in his career. I still haven't watched any coverage because it's just repetitive garbage.

Niners ain't losing. All they have to do is commit to the run and stay with it no matter what happens.

They do that and the niners win this easily. The Chiefs offense is terrible.

Another SB week annoyance for SF:

The 49ers received an unexpected early wake-up call Thursday when a fire alarm went off at their hotel, adding to their less-than-ideal leadup to Super Bowl LVIII against the Chiefs.

Congrats on the 3rd title in 5 years, you got this!

Mahomes = GOAT

Kyle Shanahan says George Kittle (toe), Arik Armstead (foot, knee), Ambry Thomas (ankle) and Oren Burks (shoulder).were limited in practice. He said he has no concern about Kittle or Armstead on Sunday. “They’re good to go.”

You haven’t watched coverage and yet “Everyone is acting like Mahomes cannot possibly be beat”. Ok then.

So I have to watch coverage to know everyone is slobbering all over Mahomes? I see it all over the internet, my news feeds, and on social media, I dont have to watch coverage to know who's picking who.

BCB getting dialed in.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan commended his second-year quarterback on Thursday, stating that Brock Purdy has "looked solid" against both the starting and reserve defensive units during practices this week. The coach has reportedly been "especially happy" with his young quarterback's play.

"He's had a hell of a week. Brock's pumped up," Shanahan said via Thursday's pool report.

I’ve watched. Counted over a dozen questions during media day about a dynasty.

Candidly, I’m shocked we’re favored, even by a slim margin. They’ve looked great, especially on defense in the playoffs. We’re lucky to be here based on how we’ve played this postseason.

I'm lovin that EVERYONE is picking KC. When everyone thinks something is gonna happen, it usually doesn't.

Vegas is giving Mahomes points. They're practically BEGGING people to take KC.

Something is up, and I'm here for it.

Yeah, that's for the casual money. The big money is coming in on the Niners. I heard this from a gambling segment I listened to yesterday.
