*** San Francisco 49ers *** Robert Saleh officially hired as DC, and Brant Boyer (Jets) hired as Special Teams coordinator. (6 Viewers)

Amon-Ra St. Brown is extremely impressed with Malik Mustapha’s physical play:

“Number 6 on your team… Oh my god. The scouting report was he is going to stick his head in there. He came in so fast… BOP I fell down and said, 'oh sh**, you got me. Just bring your face next time. Bring everything', he said, 'Okay I got you'. Next time Jahmyr [Gibbs] pass blocked him, woo, he hit him so hard, bro, he cut Jahmyr’s whole face open… He was hitting. This year, he might have brought the most sh** of all the safeties I played.”

49ers CB Charvarius Ward back in the locker room with a big smile on his face. He welcomed his infant son Charvarius Jr. on Saturday. Everyone healthy and back home in Dallas.

This is awesome.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was spotted in the locker room ahead of Wednesday's practice. Reporters observed Aiyuk moving well.

"Brandon Aiyuk looking real good in recovery from right knee surgery," Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman noted on social media. "Was getting off ground shooting 18-foot jumpers in basketball competition with Ronnie Bell in locker room."

The Athletic's Matt Barrows commented, "Brandon Aiyuk engaged in a competitive three-point jump shooting battle with Ronnie Bell. Aiyuk's right knee — repaired by Neal ElAttrache— looked like it was in good shape.

It was competitive enough that a dozen guys gathered around to watch them shoot it out. Notable that Aiyuk was hitting true jump shots -- getting elevation when he shot."

Yeah they had Deebo on as a guest on the St Brown Brothers podcast the day after the game.

Y'all had a pretty great draft from the back end of the order: Pearsall, Renardo Green is sticky af in coverage, Puni is a solid starting G, Mustapha is a missile, and Guerendo.

I was impressed by Samuel, had never really watched him do an interview. He's a good dude.

36:34 - Deebo Samuel

This is nuts.

49ers leading rushers by year during the Kyle Shanahan regime:

2020 - Jeff Wilson, 600
2019 - Raheem Mostert, 772

In the last 10 years (2015-2024), the #49ers have a win/loss record of 77-86. In that time SF has:

- 6 10+ loss seasons
- 3 12+ win seasons
- 4 NFC Championship games
- 2 Super Bowl appearances
- 10+ different QBs start a game

I’m exhausted. How about you?

Just trying to help someone who is in constant distress about the team he follows. . If it causes that much “exhaustion” , maybe focus on another part of life 🤷🏻‍♂️

Holy F you aren't very bright.

"I'm exhausted. How about you?" is part of the tweet I quoted, genius.

You're entering drummer territory with your obsession with me. Seek help.

It’s nuts how boom or bust they’ve been.

Those numbers are probably just as silly if we go back to the JH era and stretch them an extra 4 years.

Strength of Schedule 2025

The 49ers, benefiting from a 4th-place schedule, will face the easiest strength of schedule next season, with an opponent win percentage of .415

SF goes from the toughest SOS this season to the easiest next year (based on 2024 final records).

The Giants have the toughest schedule, followed by the Bears, Lions, Eagles and Cowboys.

Purdys goal is a drama free contract negotiation and to be ready with his team for Phase 1 OTAs. 💪

Brock on his contract extension:

"I want to, obviously, get it done. If there's an opportunity to be able to get that done quick, that'd be great, just so we can get back for phase one, get after it with the receivers and our team, and just continue to grow because we've all gotta grow together.

And phase one, [in] my mind, of OTAs [is the start], coming back, getting all the guys back, and let's roll. Let's get after this offseason together.

But with that being said, everybody's timing is a little different and stuff. But for me, at the end of the day, I want to win. I want to win for this organization and everybody here. I'm not the kind of guy that wants to have any kind of drama associated with anything.

I'm here for this organization, for my teammates in the locker room, and I want to be very professional about it.

I want to keep the main thing the main thing, and not get distracted by all the chaos that can go on within it," Purdy said. "I want to just be clean about it, and respectable, and get something done, and get back to work."

49ers WR Ricky Pearsall said he'd eventually like to talk to the juvenile who shot him during an attempted robbery.

"For me, just being able to forgive him. At the end of the day, I have to be able to forgive him to have that weight off my chest. At some point, I do want to talk to the kid and make sure that, if I can create an impact on him in any way, that would be be really big. I think I'd be definitely open to doing that.

"I'm a man of God, and I believe in forgiveness. And I feel like being a man, you've got to be able to forgive somebody at some point, no matter what they did to you or did to anybody else, you gotta be able to do that. That's the only way you can move on. Face it and forgive."

Matt Maiocco:

Nick Sorensen will not return as 49ers defensive coordinator, a league source said. The hope is that the 49ers can retain him on Kyle Shanahan’s staff. There are a few attractive options for the 49ers to now consider for the D.C. role.

I mean, the 9 extra picks are not insignificant, but one of these players is worshipped by the online community and the other is thought to be a below average QB. And I'd definitely prefer the latter in a big game. link

Barrows reported on his podcast that the Niners made a DC offer to Saleh that would make him the highest paid DC in the league. We'll see if he gets another HC shot. If not, Dallas apparently has interest in bringing Saleh in as a DC as well. Sorenson is the leading candidate for ST coordinator.

Barrows:

“It’s Robert Saleh or bust, really. Because they haven’t done much work with anybody else to this point."

No backup plan? Sounds smart.

Dennis Allen? Jeff Ulbrich? I get the feeling Brandon Staley will end up DC if Saleh lands elsewhere. 🤮

Find it funny that Dallas doesn’t have a head coach but talking about Salah as a D coordinator. Seems an odd approach.

PrimeTime needs a good DC. He’s gonna have his hands full designing an Offense around Shadeur.

That's how Jerry rolls.

Don’t expect Saleh Watch to end this week. The 49ers’ preferred defensive coordinator candidate, Robert Saleh, has a second interview with the Jaguars scheduled for Friday, per Jeremy Fowler.

Saleh has organizational ties to the Jaguars, he was LB coach there before he came to the 49ers.

Baalke gonna screw us out of our DC.

Nick Korte of OverTheCap.com, has revealed the list of projected compensatory picks for the 2025 NFL Draft, and he has the 49ers getting 4 total picks, with 3 of them being regular comp picks and 1 minority comp.

All in all, the 49ers should have 10 draft picks, with them all listed below.

Round: Pick No.

1st-round: 11
2nd-round: 43
3rd-round: 75
3rd-round: 99 (Carthon & Ryans)
4th-round: 111
4th-round: 137 (Chase Young)
4th-round: 138 (Sam Darnold)
6th-round: 188
7th-round: 228
7th-round: 254 (Ray-Ray McCloud)

The 49ers have reportedly had some discussions internally about Pete Carroll as a potential DC candidate if Robert Saleh falls through, per Tim Kawakami.

Akash A:

Kawakami claims that Shanahan's looking for "energy" from his defensive coordinator, because that's something they missed with Wilks and Sorenson.

Would make sense why they would reach out to Carroll (or Saleh) if that were the case.

That's not what he said. Kawakami threw it out there as an idea and explicitly said he didn't know if it was an actual thing.

Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard reports that there have been internal discussions about a candidate who is well-versed in the Seahawks-style defense that Shanahan prefers: Pete Carroll.

"[A]s the 49ers anxiously wait for the outcome of Saleh's interview with Jacksonville for the Jaguars' head-coaching vacancy, I've heard that Carroll's name has come up inside 49ers HQ as an interesting idea, at least," Kawakami wrote. "But the 49ers also have to wait out things with Carroll, who, according to The Athletic, could be the Raiders' No. 1 choice now that Ben Johnson has taken the Chicago Bears' job."

I don’t have a standard subscription but if so he apparently learned something since he released his podcast a couple hours ago.

Positive news regarding Saleh, although we may have to wait a while to find out.

Michael Silver:

The belief in NFL circles is that the Jags' coaching search is not limited to Robert Saleh and Patrick Graham, the two candidates with whom they've scheduled second interviews... and that belief was fortified by the news of Baalke's dismissal. Keep an eye on Joe Brady, Kellen Moore and other assistants whose teams are still in the playoffs.

Saleh is coming home.

Robert Saleh reportedly did not travel to Jacksonville for his second interview and is expected to be rehired as the DC for the 49ers soon, per @MikeSilver 👀

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: The #49ers are "expected" to hire Robert Saleh as their new Defensive Coordinator, per @TheAthletic

The #49ers have interviewed former Jets special-teams coordinator Brant Boyer, who recently worked under Robert Saleh, per @MaioccoNBCS

Also

Nick Sorensen is NOT expected to remain with the 49ers, per @MaioccoNBCS

If we can improve from terrible to just average on Special Teams, it would be huge.

From X/Twitter:

The 49ers fill a major vacancy on their coaching staff with the hiring of former New York Jets assistant Brant Boyer as special teams coordinator.

Boyer takes over for Brian Schneider, who was fired after the 49ers’ 6-11 season. Boyer had been with the Jets since 2016.

Jets Special Teams DVOA last 6 years:

2024- 29th (w/5 diff kickers)
2023- 5th
2022- 2nd
2021- 2nd
2020- 4th
2019- 2nd

2024 was derailed due to major kicker problems. Kick and punt return games were both Top 10. The Jets went from 30th in special teams DVOA during the first half of the season to No. 1 down the stretch. A legit ST coach that survived multiple regimes in NY.

Jets special teams EPA and ranking under Brant Boyer:

2024: -15.14 (26th. Again, kickers.)
2023: 7.87 (11th)
2022: 5.39 (13th)
2021: -7.19 (19th)
2020: -20.92 (25th)
2019: 11.83 (8th)
2018: 47.47 (1st)
2017: 0.80 (17th)
2016: -32.73 (30th)

Cumulative 2016-2024: -2.62 (14th)

In 2024 the Jets had the third worst FG conversion rate in the league (bad kicking is going to drop epa performance).

More on Brant Boyer:

Boyer, 52, has an extensive NFL background both as a player and coach. He played linebacker in the league from 1994 to 2004, suiting up for the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns.

Boyer began his coaching career as an intern with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants from 2009 to 2010. He later served as the Indianapolis Colts' assistant special teams coach from 2012 to 2015 before taking on the role of special teams coordinator with the Jets in 2016 (hired by Todd Bowles), a position he has held since. Boyer, who has worked with Saleh since 2021, now reunites with him on Shanahan's staff in Santa Clara.

One of Boyer’s first tasks will be deciding on the two kicker positions. Moody, a third-round draft pick in 2023, missed 10 field goals during the 2024 season and his 70.6 percent rate was the second worst among full-time kickers. Punter Mitch Wishnowsky, meanwhile, missed half the season with a back issue and is due to count $2.3 million against the salary cap in 2025.
