*** San Francisco 49ers *** SF tied for 1st in NFC West; Purdy now 5-0 vs Seattle (11 Viewers)

Kittle back at practice on a Wednesday (limited) almost certainly means he's gonna be back this week. That'll help a ton.
Good to hear. While they miss him as a receiver, their run game really suffers when he is out. Great player. If he had played in a pass heavy offense his whole career, his numbers would be off the chart good with his RAC ability.

It's like 2020 all over again.

49ers defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (foot) apparently got carted off from practice, after backup linebacker Curtis Robinson also carted off with knee injury

After losing Javon Hargrave, the hope had been that a big run stopper like Elliott might be able to fill in more snaps and at least help the run defense.

Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams and Dee Winters all back at practice for the 49ers. (Samuel and Winters limited)

Samuel said originally that he would miss “one or two” games. Potentially a sign that it will only be one.

Deebo Samuel (calf) and George Kittle (hamstring) are practicing for the second day in a row.

A great sign that both will likely be available for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

Also, DT Jordan Elliot returned to practice after being carted off yestedsay.

The 49ers injury report for Sunday against the Patriots:

QUESTIONABLE: Trent Williams (toe), Deebo Samuel (calf), Dee Winters (ankle), Jordan Elliott (foot), Talanoa Hufanga (rolled ankle at practice today)

OUT: Javon Hargrave (triceps), Curtis Robinson (knee)

Here's what Kyle Shanahan said about LT Trent Williams' toe today:

"He came in this morning with it sore. It acted up a little bit in practice yesterday and it was just too sore for him to go today."

Williams is listed as questionable for Sunday.

49ers inactives:

S Talanoa Hufanga
WR Ronnie Bell
OL Ben Bartch
CB Darrell Luter Jr.

Trent Williams, Jordan Elliott, Dee Winters all active

Brock Purdy: #1 in NFL pass yards
Jordan Mason: #1 in NFL rush yards
Jauan Jennings: #3 in NFL receiving yards

That’s two 7th-round picks and an UDFA leading the way for the 49ers’ offense amidst injuries on that side of the ball.

Check out the O line!!

I love Deebo but with how good Jennings is playing the 49ers should ship Deebo (possibly Aiyuk)

The 49ers highest-graded defensive players against the Patriots, per PFF:

1. Fred Warner: 96.6
2. Nick Bosa: 92:5
3. Sam Okuayinonu: 92.3
4. Isaac Yiadom: 81.8
5. Deommodore Lenoir: 79.2
6. Kevin Givens: 78.8

Coming into the season Kevin Givens had 4.5 sacks on 943 pass-rush snaps in his NFL career.

This season he has 3.5 sacks on 52 pass-rush snaps

With Hargrave out, Givens snaps went from 18 snaps a game on average to 35 yesterday

All the players listed as day-to-day, which is good news for the 49ers:

Fred Warner (ankle)
Jacob Cowing (shoulder)
Jordan Elliott (knee)
George Kittle (ribs)
Chris Conley (oblique)
Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder)

Also:

The 49ers will likely open DT Kalia Davis' return-from-IR practice window on Wednesday, per Kyle Shanahan

The San Francisco 49ers opened the practice window for defensive tackle Kalia Davis on Wednesday but chose not to do the same for rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who remains on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

Ahead of Wednesday's practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked why Pearsall's practice window hadn't been opened.

"Just don't feel he's ready to (practice) this week," Shanahan told reporters.

"I know he's really close, and when he's good to go, himself and the medical staff, we will be pumped to have him back. He's a hell of a player," Shanahan added.

The coach also noted that Pearsall's shoulder injury, which had kept him out of the preseason, was fully healed before the incident on August 31.

Matt Barrows was on Tim Kawakami’s podcast last night and gave an update on Fred Warner and George Kittle’s playing status for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals:

“I’m fairly certain that those guys are going to play.”

Both Fred Warner and George Kittle are back at 49ers practice ahead of their game against Arizona.

They're both playing IMO

Last year’s leading scorer was Christian McCaffrey (he had 7tds in the first 4 weeks)

So far this year it’s Jake Moody — by a wide margin.

In 4 games this season, Moody has already kicked 11 field goals, which is more than half his total (21) last season.

Brutal stretch of schedule after this week:

@ Seattle
vs Kansas City
vs Dallas
@ Tampa Bay
vs Seattle
@ Green Bay
@ Buffalo

Roster moves:

To IR: DL Yetur Gross-Matos

Activated from IR: DT Kalia Davis

Elevated from practice squad: WR Trent Taylor, DT TY McGill

Trent Taylor will return punts Sunday.

They do suck

It starts with Shanny and Lynch. Drafts are pretty much garbage. To compensate they overpay vets who are slow and don't care. You win by having lots of young, energetic guys looking to prove themselves

Not filling your team with overpriced vets

This is the second time in three games this season that the 49ers' win probability was over 85% midway through the 4th quarter, and they lost.

Falls on 1 guy.

There’s a reason I stopped caring after the SB. This was the most obvious outcome after that debacle. I still like Brock, but he’ll prob be getting criticized too.

Yeah, after that first pick he threw, Kyle should have benched himself, but no, he tries to play hero ball and run it in himself for the game clinching TD and fumbles. Then with a chance to come back and win the game, Kyle throws ANOTHER pick. WTF is he thinking? And don’t get me started on his role in getting Moody hurt. Another loss due to his self indulgent behavior 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Schefter:

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said kicker Jake Moody suffered a high ankle sprain today and is expected to be sidelined multiple weeks. “So we'll get (a kicker) in as fast as possible and get the best guy we can,” Shanahan said. “I'm sure it'll have to be for a few weeks or whatever.”

So no adjustments from Sorenson when teams show different looks?? WTF is going on over there?

DE Nick Bosa on Arizona's run game success late:

"They were giving us a different look on the zone read and I think in all of our losses, the preparation we've had has been great, but teams are playing us different and doing things differently and we need to adjust a little better, just showing different looks than what we were looking at on tape."

1. Losing Moody cost them the game. They had to go for it on 4th & long because Moody was out. He kicks that FG & the game is over.

2. They really, really miss CMC. Mason has been a nice story, but their offensive scheme just isn’t as creative without CMC. Also, a couple of those long runs Mason broke would have likely been CMC house calls. Mason is also a zero in the receiving game, taking away a short area weapon from Purdy. Those are chain-moving plays.

Better times ahead. It’s still early and they’re still a very good football team.

Great point #2.
Red Zone cut to the game just as Brady was making an observation of why CMC is so important to their offense.
He showed formations with CMC on the field and this year without.
How he opens up lanes for Deebo and Kittle.
And how it affects the defense when he lines up at a receiver position.
Not Brady's biggest fan but it was interesting.

They were talking last night about how the 49ers installed all their red zone packages in training camp, and those packages were designed around having CMC. It doesn't appear that they've changed those packages, and they don't work quite as well without CMC, hence the red zone issues.

I can totally buy that. Shanahan doesn't seem to be a competent in-game adjuster.

I still think he should get an OC to call plays (it seemed to work in the preseason OK) and maybe he could devote more time to defense and special teams, but I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

The good news is even though we've dropped 2 division games, the NFC West is wide open and we can still win it. Can and will are 2 different things, but the season is not lost....yet.

Seattle lost an epic one yesterday, too. That BFGTD was huge for the Niners.
At home against the Giants without Nabors. So much for their “revolutionary” defense.

QB Brock Purdy had a 54% completion rate vs Arizona, the second lowest of any start in his career (Browns last year at 44% was worst).

Niners are now 1-3 when Purdy completes under 60% of his passes. They're 18-4 when he's at 60+%.

Mason doesn't look bad catching the ball. I wonder why they are so reluctant to throw to him. Maybe he's not ever in the right place or something.

The one observation I had from yesterday is that Purdy is holding the ball waaaaay too long. Not sure if that's him trying to be a hero, being indecisive, or the play calling not being on point. But you can't drop back that many times without seeming like you have a plan.

Word is he's not a good route runner. Little dump-offs are fine, but he isn't running crossing routes or splitting out wide like they did with CMC.

The spacing just isn't the same without that threat - it's impacting Deebo as well.

I'd heard his hands were a problem but he seems to be holding onto passes. Even if he can't run routes like CMC, you'd think he looks good enough to handle a higher volume of 3rd down back duties and dump off passes than he has been.
