Santonio Holmes arrested (1 Viewer)

Wow, doesn't even have a contract yet and is acting like a punk already.

At least wait until you have some money to fall back on before you start causing trouble Santonio.

All NFL contracts should have a no going to Florida clause written into them. It seems like an awful lot of the arrests are outside a club in Florida at 3am.

 Who needs the Jaguars, Dolphins, Bucs...

First round WRs are a risky proposition in today's NFL...

How many recent Super Bowl winners have one, and he was one of the primary reasons they won?

St. Louis Rams and..... ????

Santonio Holmes - WR - Steelers

Santonio Holmes was arrested for disorderly conduct Friday night.

The Steelers first-round pick was supposed to be at Ohio State working out due to an NCAA-NFL agreement requiring collegiates turning pro to remain at school until graduation is held. The incident took place at a South Beach, FL hotel. It's unknown what specifically led to Holmes' arrest. May. 27 - 5:02 pm et

Oh, this is gonna go over really well with Cowher. :lmao:

If I recall Plax had something similar where he was drunk in public and did something or another at VA Beach. Must be teh PIT rookie WR thing... ;)

anyone else getting sick of this crap? why cant these punks keep their #### in gear?
Young male, suddenly finding himself with a lot of fame, expecting cash, and no longer has to worry about his college coaches checking on him? Recipe for disaster if they lack discipline.

Steelers first-round draft choice Santonio Holmes was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and taken to jail at 3:30 a.m. Saturday after a confrontation with police in Miami Beach, Fla.

The former Ohio State receiver was released from jail after signing a promissory note to appear in court to be arraigned.

Holmes said last night that he was on his way from a bar/restaurant in Miami Beach early yesterday and stepped off the sidewalk to avoid a gathering of people. A police officer yelled at him, Holmes said. A report written by the arresting officer said Holmes was obstructing traffic.

Holmes said he asked the officer why he yelled at him, and he was immediately placed under arrest.

"I wasn't trying to cause a problem," said Holmes, a native of Hollywood, Fla., who said he was in town to visit with his children, Santonio III and Nicori. "I'm upset about this."

The police report said Holmes was not cooperative with police after being warned to get off of the street on Collins Avenue.

The arresting officer wrote the report as follows:

"I observed the defendant walking in the middle of the road obstructing traffic. I gave the defendant a verbal order to get out of the street and the defendant began to say several offensive words and he refused to get out of the street. The defendant's actions caused a crowd to form and traffic to come to a stop. Defendant arrested."

A date for Holmes to appear in court for his arraignment has not been set. A Miami Beach police spokesman said it is routine for defendants to be released after signing a promissory note if they are cooperative after being taken into custody.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett, reached yesterday evening, said the team did not have a comment on Holmes' arrest. Holmes' agent, Joel Segal, did not return a telephone call.

The Steelers traded their third- and fourth-round picks to move up seven spots to select Holmes, who left Ohio State after his junior year. Holmes is not attending the Steelers' voluntary workouts, which began two weeks ago and run through June 8, because of an NCAA/NFL rule that prohibits a player from joining an NFL team until his college class graduates.

Holmes was in Pittsburgh on May 13-15 for minicamp and is expected to gain a grasp of his playbook while being absent from the workouts. He has not signed a contract with the Steelers, who open training camp July 28 in Latrobe.

Keyshawn was pretty important to the Bucs in 02.

Unfortunately for Holmes, in a financial sense, this happened to Holmes BEFORE he got a contract. Sure, Holmes has got to worry about what Cower's goona say...it's what the Rooney's say from here to training camp that matters financially.

Realistically: "Disoderly Conduct" is nothing new to Holmes:

Nov. 16, 2003--At 3 a.m. after a win over Purdue and six days before the Michigan game, wide receiver Santonio Holmes and quarterback Troy Smith are charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after a fight in a parking lot on campus. A window in a car is kicked out and one woman reported her jaw was broken. At least one other prominent Buckeye is at the scene, but is not charged. Holmes is held out of the starting lineup at Michigan but returns to play most of the game. Holmes also started in the Buckeyes' Fiesta Bowl game. He pleads innocent to the disorderly conduct after the team returns to Columbus. The disorderly conduct charge is dismissed against Holmes on March 30, 2004. Smith is found guilty of the charge.
After reading MKB's post...kinda sounds like a lame charge, too.

Doesn't sound like much here, a decent attorney can make this go away.

Steelers top pick Holmes arrested

Miami police cite disorderly conduct

Sunday, May 28, 2006

By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Santonio Holmes, the Steelers' No. 1 draft choice, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct in the South Beach area of Miami Beach early yesterday morning, a charge his mother contends is a case of mistaken identity because she said her son is in Columbus, Ohio.

But, Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said it is no mistake. Holmes, a wide receiver from Ohio State and the 25th overall pick in the NFL draft, disrupted traffic and was verbally abusive to a police officer outside a South Beach hotel on Collins Avenue at 3:30 a.m.yesterday.

"We got a positive I.D.," Hernandez said.

Holmes was released from jail and did not have to post bail after signing a promissory note to appear in court when he is served a subpoena. Hernandez said police have to positively identify a person before they will release him on a promissory note. That is how they know the person they arrested was Holmes.

But Patricia Brown, Holmes' mother who lives in Belle Glade, Fla., said her son is in Columbus, where he is attending school, and has not been home since her May 5 birthday. Belle Glade is approximately two hours north of South Beach.

"That's news to me," Brown said when told of the arrest. "I talked to him yesterday. He's in Ohio."

Holmes did not return a message left on his cell phone.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said, "We don't have any comment on it because we don't have any information on it."

According to the police report, Holmes was observed walking in the middle of Collins Avenue in a trendy area of South Beach littered with outdoor bars and restaurants. When traffic became disrupted and came to a standstill, a police officer told Holmes to "get out of the street." According to the report, Holmes "said several offensive words" to the police officer and was arrested.

"He was verbally abusive with the police officer," Hernandez said.

Hernandez said Holmes did not appear drunk and was not cited for public intoxication. No date has been set for the hearing.

Holmes attended the Steelers' minicamp two weeks ago, but he is not allowed to take part in the coaching and voluntary workout sessions because of an NFL rule that prohibits underclassmen from joining their team until either he or his class graduates.

I've known a few overzealous cops/security guards, etc. who would have been successful in Nazi Germany. Seriously, some of these yahoos let it go to their head.

It will go away, but (like was posted earlier) I bet Pitt can get some edge with this when his contract is talked about.

I agree completely, but I think if I was in that window after being a first round pick and before having inked my contract, I would be watching tape, working out, and in bed every night by 10pm.

Nice thought, but I'd live it up a little. Not this much, but some.

Sounds like he has some explaining to do to his mom. Her wrath will be harsher than the Steelers or Miami PD.

I was using some hyperbole. I wouldn't lock myself up, but I probably wouldn't be out on the street at 3:30 AM either.

Miami Beach police are currently in the middle of a Memorial Day crackdown. Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards was arrested in another, similar incident.

Washington Post link

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas and forward Awvee Storey have been arrested on charges of disobeying police.

Storey was blocking traffic in the middle of a busy street when an officer told him to get back to the sidewalk Saturday night, according to police reports. Storey didn't get out of the street, and the officer arrested him and charged him with failure to obey a command. While police were arresting Storey, Arenas got out of a vehicle and walked toward the arresting officers. According to reports, an officer told Arenas to get back in his vehicle, but he refused, saying he wanted to stand next to his teammate. The officer took Arenas into custody and charged him with resisting without violence.

As Arenas was being arrested, according to reports, he said, "You can't arrest me. I'm a basketball player. I play for the Washington Wizards, and I'm not going to leave my teammate." Both players were then taken to jail for processing. Wizards spokesman Zack Bolno had no immediate comment Sunday.

The two were arrested as part of a crackdown on disorderly behavior among those who flocked to Miami Beach for Memorial Day weekend.

A total of 557 people were arrested between Thursday morning and Saturday night on Miami Beach. Most arrests were for disorderly conduct and intoxication. During the same three-day period last year, there were 333 arrests. "We're definitely over from last year," Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said. "We're working a lot more plainclothes officers, so you're obviously going to make more arrests."

Hmmm.....

Native of Holywood, FLA.

In town visiting his kids.

You would think the guy would (a) know the deal late night (i.e., don't do shizza to draw attention to yourself with the police), and (b) be home in bed getting ready for the next day's workout.

Where is Evilchin 72 defending this action...?

At least Chad Jackson would have had the sense to not get caught!

I've been arrested for worse and I'm not a menace to society like some are trying to make Holmes out to be. This is nothing more than a jaywalking ticket. I love it how much Bengal fans are green with envy. Who Dey?

There's a HUGE thing down here this weekend on South Beach, etc. that happens every year and is the cause of the "police crackdown," as someone else posted. Makes the local news every year as human interest story and of people complaining about the cops. That could be the reason he wasn't home studying his playbook.

I tried to tell people that Holmes was a character concern.

You're right, he would have heard the cops' footsteps coming and immediately dropped into the fetal position. Resisting arrest wouldn't have been an option.Seriously, though, I'm not going to defend this. It seems like a pretty minor infraction, but you have to have more sense than this. If you're a first-round draft pick, don't be at Miami Beach nightclubs at 3 AM until AFTER you've signed. If the Steelers do get a discount, however, it's not all bad, as long as this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

Black Beach Week
[best Mr. Rogers voice]San you say "Profiling"?

Good. I knew you could.

[/best Mr. Rogers voice]

As an ex-Miami resident who's familiar with Collins Avenue, I'd liken it to having a police crackdown during Mardi Gras and ticketing everyone who won't get out of the street.

I didn't know about the Black Beach Week scheduling "coincidence." Sounds like a big fundraiser for the Miami Beach Police Department. Still trying to pay off all the new squad cars from the last hurricane.

This is not news.
