Thats when the Steelers were playing well, and once he got booted from the return team :pickle:

He is a promising young talent, I expect big things in 2007.

Looks a little Lee Evans'esqe - except for the lack of TDs.

A little leery of extrapolating this kind of production (few receptions, many yards) for 16 games though.

Nobody is extrapolating, just noting a statistical trend.

Also see Javon Walkers last handfull of games before he broke out a few years ago.

Agreed, but he's still worth picking up late in a redraft. Sure he'll have those 3 for 25 games. But he'll also have those 4 for 125 and a TD games. Mid-to-late round acceptable risk, if you ask me.

I drafted Evans as a rookie (and still have him on contract) so I know about the risk reward bit. ;)

I grabbed him off waivers about week 9 last year in my dynasty league. Color me happy :banned:

He had some real nice catch's earlier in the year that caught my eye and as you noted his #'s were solid down the stretch and I picked him up for that reason. Ward isn't getting any younger and doesn't have the speed/down field ability that Holmes does. He's a good play this year.

Good luck trying to trade for him right now. I've tried this offseason in a number of my different dynasty leagues and no one is selling.

Great dynasty pickup right now. Reminds me of Mark Clayton's situation last year.
Agreed. If possible, this will be the last time he can be had on the cheap. Holmes has a very solid, all around game and my feeling is that the Steelers offense could be a little to a lot different under a new coaching staff. Holmes will be a primary benefactor if and when things open up a little.

Ward is older, and, the new offense is going to be a more wide-opened attack!

Holmes is probably going to have comparable 2007 season, to what J. Cotchery had in 2006, only a higher ypc avg, more yards, and maybe more TDs..

Cotchery's numbers were 82-961-6...

I'm thinking Holmes can do the same, in 2007..

Well with their lack of a passing QB, and the complete lack of passing touchdowns that team has produced I have trouble getting excited about this.

I have a hard time believing Cowher's lame duck season will be comparable to 2007. I am thinking this team will be performing at their 2005 , maybe even 2004 level. And I believe that was the same QB at the helm....So before you call a guy a terrible passing QB why dont you look at the stats.

Also have to add that a 31 year old Ward hasnt played a full season in 2 years and isnt getting any younger.
WRs are not RBs. 3 of last year's Top 5 were 31 or older as were 8 of the Top 30. In the past 10 years, there have been 37 times when a WR 31 or older scored 150+ fantasy points (which is normally around the Top 15).

See Patrick Jeffers.

In 1999, he had something like 800 yards and 8 td's in his last 8 games.

The next year he was a floperoo.

:kicksrock: I agree. this is going to be a fine season for that offense...

Every time I watched the Ohio State Buckeys recievers 2 years ago I couldn't help but think; "man, Ted Ginn is unbelievable."

Holmes didn't get much play mid-season thanks to a few miss-reads my him that directly resulted in Ben INTs. Muff and fumble a few kicks and he spends all his practice time on O. Several more weeks and he's getting the offense and the option routes correct and consequently gets more playing time and production. Don't think Lee Evans with this guy just 'cause they're about the same size. Evans is quite a bit faster, but the Steelers drafted Holmes over Chad Jackson 'cause Holmes was by far the most polished WR in the draft. Best routes, awareness of the weaknesses in the zones, solid hands and a drive to create after the catch. Typical Steeler. Tough little dude.
