Santonio Holmes (1 Viewer)

Big Ben threw the ball a lot more than what the Steelers would clearly like...but Holmes was targeted a fair amount, and he did a great job getting open and making catches. He got behind the safety for the touchdown, and he found soft spots in the zone. He made a great snag in traffic as well. He looked good in ALL aspects of the game...

The lone touchdown for Pittsburgh was to Holmes...he had 9 catches, 131 yards and 1 touchdown. Against the Titans! He had about 15% of last year's production in his FIRST game of the year.

Is he a sell high? Steeler homers, what are his chances for having a big year?

Where would you folk place his upside this year? Was this simply a big game that ultimately won't affect EOY numbers or is this a sign of things to come in 2009?

clearly he wont keep that pace up, I expect him to be just fine though and an everyweek starter in FFL land.

That being said when Pitt gets out in front against the ohio teams I expect them to sit on it

:goodposting: Oline still looks horrible so they may have to depend on the passing game a little more. i had Holmes at 65-68, but i can see 75-78 being a realistic target.

I agree, but I also think that their inability to run in short yardage will force them to throw more on 3rd downs no matter who they're playing. It's good to see Holmes gettin involved with the short to medium routes.

I've always liked him and was wondering when the torched was going to be passed from Ward to him and gave up guessing. This looks like it could be the year...it is early though.....

The titans have a pretty good run defense. This is why the team passed as much as they did.

This will not be the typical game plan for the rest of the season for this offense.

He'll be good but I think he has a ceiling as a #2 fantasy wideout. That's fine, but I might try and package him for an upgrade to an elite WR after this game if possible.

He had more catches, and more yards, than Ward.

Finnegan didn't lock onto either guy, so it's not like Santonio had a big game because of an easy matchup.

IMO he's a Top 12 or so WR talent (he basically showed that throughout the playoffs last year), but our offense and his inconsistency thus far has limited his numbers.

If he can become more consistent than that will be huge, but how many receiving options Pittsburgh has limits his ceiling. Ward doesnt look like he's lost a step despite people thinking that for a couple years, I think Miller saw a career high in targets and possibly catches last night, and Mike Wallace, Mewelde Moore, and Limas Sweed should end up with at least 80-90 catches combined I would think.

Last night was a good sign, but I wouldnt raise expectations just yet

The Steelers have options in the passing game so I'm not sure Holmes will ever be a 90 catch guy. But clearly Ben & he are the Steelers most dynamic players so I would expect 75-80 receptions and alot of big plays. Great WR2 for fantasy.

he's clearly the #1 Receiver in this offense now. That much is clear. But dont expect Pittsburgh to abandon the run again like they did last night. The Tenessee Defense doesnt give much up against the run.

I think Santonio has the potential to establish numbers in the top 10 this year. Counting the playoffs last year, this is the fourth straight game he has scored a TD (albeit one was a punt return). Many people are saying that Pitt will only throw this much when they meet up with a tough defense, but I think it is possible that the Pitt running game has degraded to the point that even average run defenses will be able to stifle the run against Pitt. Also, good offenses may also score just enough points to push Pitt to air it out in order to keep up. It was only a few years ago that Big Ben was one of the top scoring QBs. It could happen again.

I had him last year and he underperformed pretty much all year - few exceptions. He looks better this year and I'd bet I'l regret not having him again.

Top 10?

If he were to barely squeak into last year's top ten, he would have needed about 1,200 yards and 7 touchdowns.

So with 15 games to go, he would average about 73 yards and .5 touchdown a game.

His career ypc is 16.5, but let's bump that down to 15 (about where he was last year)...maybe it's because he's more involved in shorter passes or maybe the line doesn't give him as much time to go deep.

So he needs to get about 5 catches a game from here on out in order to be top 10. That would push him into the 80+ reception territory, when he's been a 50ish catch guy every year thus far. For a guy who doesn't generally have that great of a catch percentage, he'd either A) need close to double digit targets every game, or B) significantly improve his career catch %.

Unless the Steelers will have to pass the ball a lot more this year or Holmes has surpassed Ward as the numero uno wr, it looks like Holmes is a sell high candidate.

i wasn't targeting Holmes in any league but loved him before the draft as a WR3 or Flex option every week, so i ended up with him in half my leagues. I saw him as a Top 20 WR, albeit a little inconsistant, but will have a couple big games for you.

i read reports that he bulked up a bit in the off season, and i was convinced he was trying to play for a new contract (though he did sign a five year contract in 06 when he was drafted). he had legal issues in the past, so maybe got in his ear about focusing on just football this year and get a big payday. I also noticed that he body language did not have the normal historionics: he kept pounding his chest and pumping his fist... which i prefer to the lame "first down" signal or spinning the football

at some point Ward will slow down... and the PIT running game is not looking very good so far... granted, when their schedule softens up, they won't throw 40+ passes a game, but Holmes is always a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

They may be good against the run, but 1.5 yards per carry good???? I don't think so. Steelers have serious issues running the ball, and they made quite a few attempts at establishing their run game. They can still make some adjustments, but I don't see them winning many games by running. Things are looking bad for FWP owners. Moore is the guy I would want, but only as a RB4 option. Santonio will break 1000 yards and add 8-10 TDs. Ward will not be too far behind.

Holmes is very good on broken plays, because of his speed. There were a lot of broke plays last night that Holmes capitalized on.

I think he will do similar to two years ago, and if he doesnt miss games like last year, will be solid, not spectatular

I think he's going to be a good 1/2 WR this year. I've had him for the past 2 years ('07-'08) and have him again this year. Past years he was a flex or WR2-3. But I think the torch has passed (and I might even stretch it to say it happened when Ward fumbled near the end zone last night, there was something very uncharacteristic about that for him that I think will be a turning point in the WR history of the Steelers). I think he's begun to turn from the "big play threat" guy that might get a big TD to the go-to guy in the receiving game.

Honestly, I think it's quite obvious. Also obvious is the Steelers are not running the ball like they used to do under Cowher.

Project what you thought Chambers was going to do last year after 5 games. Yes he sprained his ankle but played most of the season and did little or nothing after a great start. WRs go through streaks and I'd say Homes will be a top 15-20WR with about 1100 yards and 7 tds

 him as my WR #4, would not want him as my 1 or 2.

Big games, but expect a few stinkers too.
:hifive: except he is my WR #5
If he puts up a couple more 100 yard games, he won't be too many people's WR #5. I think he is a lock to be a Top 15 WR with potential to crack the Top 10. Right now, he is a good Flex start, and could move into a WR#2 with a couple more solid performances.

I'm really hoping to replace T.O. with Santonio sooner rather than later. This week went a LONG ways towards cementing that spot.

If one were to sell high, I would wait a week, he goes up against the Bears DB's next. No reason he doesn't match this weeks output vs them.

depends on your other players, but he could be a decent 2. I just don't trust him to be consistent.

He had a great night. If he starts to put consistency to his game this year (as opposed to last season) he will be solid. I stayed away from the Steeler ground game thinking that Big Ben was going to start to show this "scramble for big play ability" (SFBPA) .

If Big Ben's "scramble for big play ability" (SFBPA) are up- SH will roll this year. He has speed and he has it figured out- deadly combos- but I need to see more.

If anyone has any big needs they might try to strike while the iron is hot, but for me I drafted him in the 6th and don't have any real needs (yet) so every big game out of my WR3 is a huge bonus.

Based upon his last two games he is on the 144 recs, 2096 yards, 16 touchdowns. Seriously, I think could crack the top ten as Ben is beginning to give him more attention than Ward.
