Saturday Night at the Dome...my impressions (1 Viewer)

I just replied to an email that somebody sent me saying "How 'bout dem Saints?" This is what I wrote:

It was UNREAL.

Paul and I went downtown about 7:30 am to get a prime tailgating spot. At one point, Paul turns to me and says, "I wish Uncle Bob was here. He'd be having a ball." I got a little choked up and thought the same thing. I miss that guy.

Anyway, it was insane. All along Poydras St, every parking lot was FILLED with people tailgating. Cooking, some watching satellite TV, drinking, dancing. It was like Mardi Gras in January. The game was unbelievable. On that last 4th and 10 for the Eagles, my ears physically hurt it was so loud in the Dome. No wonder the Eagles had a false start. After the game, nobody wanted to leave. The Dome was 3/4 full 20 minutes after the game. Sean Payton on the field giving the fans high fives and signing autographs. Benson and Rita dancing around hugging people. Blanco was down there wanting to be on TV associated with the Saints (sorry, political cynicism). The NFL commish was on the field. Brees had a smile from ear to ear. EVERYBODY was chanting Deuce, Deuce, Deuce. He was the MAN. An entire city jumped on that guy's back and he took us to the NFC Championship. Colston when asked how he was going to celebrate giving the "aw shucks" answer of "I'm just going to go home and rest for the next one." What a great pro that guy is, in only his rookie season. I hope he becomes a superstar because sports needs more people like him.

Walking out of that place was also great. Complete strangers giving high fives. Police officers, Dome ushers, beer guys, and food vendors high fiving fans. Black and white, old and young, rich and poor, it didn't matter. As long as you were wearing black and gold, you were in the family.

If we win next week, I might cry. I'm getting choked up just thinking about Saturday. It was one of the top 10 moments of my life. Other than my wedding day, the day I adopted Haley, and Carlie being born, I'm not sure I've ever had a better day. Heck, winning the Super Bowl would be unreal, but probably wouldn't equal Saturday. I was actually a part of it. That's what made it special. I was one of the people who made Philly false start. I contributed.

GO SAINTS!!!!!!

I was pulling for the Hawks, sitting on the couch just as nervous as watching the Saints.

The tailgating was as close to LSU tailgating as you can get. It seemed that half of the people down there couldn't get in the game.
