Saving waiver wire pick? (1 Viewer)

Chunky Soup

Footballguy
Had #3 last week, #2 this week. Nothing stellar on the WW except some guys like Steve Smith/Mario Manningham/Sims-Walker type guys.

When to pull the trigger and give up my spot? I can't really think of something happening that I'd want the #1 spot, except maybe if someone like Warner went down I'd want Leinart.

Ideas of when you guys pull the trigger? Silly to hold it?

A Mike Bell or Cadillac Williams would have been worth it if you were short at RB. Mario Manningham is probably worth it this week if you need a WR. When a guy comes up that you need to fill in a weakness, it is time to jump.

It depends on where I am on the WW. If I'm at #1, I'm quite picky as I can sometimes get that gem...but somebody just dropped Pierre Thomas in one of my leagues, and I have the #3 WW priority...needless to say, I put in a claim. I don't know if I'll get him or not, but we'll see!

always a tough call. Early in the year you always have these guys that blow up...Boldin, Colston, D. Jackson and it's tough to know if they are real or fools gold. The problem is if you miss on these guys they are gone for good and can really be difference makers. I'm not really helping with your decision making process I'm sure but it depends on your team, your roster size, strengths/weaknesses, etc..

The other argument in favor of using the pick early is that if you actually have an immediate spot in your lineup for the player you get, you're going to get more weeks of using the player (and more total benefit) than if you wait and potentially get a slightly superior player later in the season.

I lost Anthony Gonzalez so my WR depth is hurting. I picked up Clayton last week, and now it doesn't look like that will pan out. I am seriously considering using my #1 for Manningham after watching him last night. The guy was catching everything and looks like he will get plenty of targets.

Is Manningham's game a result of Hicks and Hixon being out, and if so, does he keep that job for awhile?

He's getting the targets due to them being out. Hixon got banged up last night so Manningham saw more playing time. After this performance I can't imagine the coaches are going to let him sit though, but you never know for sure.

The only league I'm in where waiver priority carries over is a dynasty league. I'm a firm believer in using the #1 waiver priority in the first three weeks, because that's when the *REAL* studs emerge (Colston, Boldin, MJD, Slaton, etc). Even thought not everyone that emerges is secretly a stud, everyone that's secretly a stud emerges. You can't win if you don't get dealt in. If I come into the #1 priority later in the year, I tend to save it for next year unless someone earns a starting RB job due to injury (a la Ryan Grant, Pierre Thomas, etc), because that's another good dice-roll situation.

Of course, my opinions are shaded by the type of league. Since it's a dynasty league, I don't care much about those 6-week wonders who are only starters until the real starter returns. Since it's an incredibly deep league, I don't have the luxury of waiting until a player has shown something twice before grabbing him. If I was in a much, much shallower league or a redraft league, I'd probably hold my waiver priority until somebody really blew my skirt up, so to speak, since end-of-the-bench guys are much less valuable in that format (and it's much easier to acquire quality guys outside of the waiver system).

Our is not savable. It starts over every week based on the rank of your team and how bad you lost that week. I have been using my waiver order every week since my team sucks so bad.
