Say It Ain't So. Faulk & Holmes To Retire? (1 Viewer)

Family Matters

OK I know there has been a lot of speculation that Holmes may be forced to retire which is sad in it's own right, but now I hear Faulk may nave to retire too? Say it ain't so. Faulk is my alltime favorite fantasy player and 1 of my alltime football players. I know the debate is ongoing but for me my top 5 RB's are:

M.Faulk (12,279)

J.Brown (12,312)

E.Smith (18,355)

W.Payton (16,726)

B.Sanders (15,269)

Now you can argue that all of these guys have more yards than Faulk. But when you look at the TOTAL player it's a different view:

Faulk:

rush yds: 12,279 9th alltime

receptions: 767 16th alltime

receiving yds: 6875 not sure but has to be top 75

total TD's 136 4th alltime

total yds from scrimmage: 19,154 4th alltime

And he still ownd the best year ever for total yds from scrimmage. This guy was a total stud that did everything well. In fact some of his contributions are rarely ackowledged. For example he is considered a student of the game and helped run the offense because he always knew what and where everyone was to be doing at all times.

His blitz pick ups were not always spectacular but most always effective. Some might say he very good at it. One of the best.

I want to share a fanasty story with you. My first year I played was 1999 against an experienced league. I bought a magazine so I could decide who to draft with the #2 pick. I think many laughed when I drafted Steve Young. And that back fired. But I still won the championship due to a little magazine research. I found a couple of RB's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds by the names of Faulk and E. Smith. This was a PPR league and I had Faulk ranked as 1 of the highest. The rest is history.

I owned Faulk in many other leagues as well and I've won many of my championships with him. If and when he retires he will be missed as he is my favorite fantasy player. He is the guy that put "STUD" in the name "Stud RB".

So cheers to you Faulk and Holmes as you 2 have been a big part of the NFL and of many fantasy teams over the years. I appreciate wjat you've done as a fan and as a fantasy player. But what you guys did was real. And it will never be forgotten by me.

I would agree with your top 5 RB's list. I don't know if the way you listed them was in order, and if it was I disagree with that order....but I agree that those 5 are the best RB's in history.

<rant>QC, if you don't have anything of value to add here, please step away from the keyboard, and maybe find another board to amuse w/ your insight. I thought you might have learned something yesterday from the reponses to your "Quincy 'pass me the straw' Carter should be QB'ing the Ravens" post, but I guess not.

Obviously FM put some thought into this and felt it was worthy of posting. Evidently you, in your infinite wisdom did not, and waited 2 whole minutes before dropping your insightful reply - once agian proving the member # theory :wall: . Maybe we should set up a "Time Out" forum where the FBG staff can banish questionable posters to figure out some board manners (though I'm sure they'd just sneak back in here using ghost usrnames)

Back to the regularly scheduled programming...

K Warner said on ESPN's "the huddle" radio show today that he, and presumably his wife, think Faluk will be back for one final year, after talking w/ him in the off-season. His speculation, not mine. As a guy sitting on the #7 draft pick, I hope Faulk does hang it up so Jackson doesn't have to worry about the HOF'er taking carries away. I never got the chance to have Faulk on my FF team, but certainly wish I had.

And though my screen name will show my homer bias, I'm voting J Brown as best ever. A man among boys during his brief reign as the undisputed league's best RB. If you're too young to have seen much of him, do yourself a favor and dig up some old video clips. I don't want to get into a debate w/ the league now vs. then, and the fact that JB did it when there were fewer regular season games. He simply dominated the league's defenses - and retired in his prime (not concerned w/ padding stats for records).

Just to calrify, I did not place my top 5 in any certain order. Just who I think belongs there. Frankly, I'm not sure how I would rank them.

I agree with Faulk being an all time great and I only put him behind B. Sanders as the best rb of all time. Faulk was one of the best COD backs in the league and could stop and start like no one I every seen. I hope he does retire because I dont wanna see another year of struggle but remembering him at his best. He is the sole reason that there is so much hype around R. Bush. Just my .02

:goodposting: Sad to see the FF heroes retire. Lots of money has been won on their back. :D

My top five (in no particular order):

Jim Brown (tough runner that could beat you by running over or around you)

Walter Payton (THIS guy did it all; great runner, receiver, blocker, and even passer)

Eric Dickerson (at the top of his game, no one ran with more fluidity and grace; big runs seemed effortless)

Barry Sanders (great fun to watch, would lose two yards on one play and gain 40 the next)

Earl Campbell (it took multiple defenders to bring him down most of the time)

Good point abou the Bush hype and I agree with that statement from a fantasy perspective. In the NFL the comparisons are there as well, just for different reasons. The guy out there that most reminds of Faulk right now is LT. His career is developing much like Faulk's did. I would not be surprised to find him with similar numbers when all is said and done. But he is truely a dual threat and score form anywhere on the field.

While he's not in my top 5 it's easy to see why he is in yours. What a STUD. He hurt people when he ran. I've never seen a more punishung back that had tremendous talent like he did. It's just too bad his career ended too soon.
