Say what you want about Owens, but the man loves to play football (1 Viewer)

Watching tonights game, I was so impressed with a hustle plays by Owens... On the Romo interception, Owens gets pancake blocked, knocked down, gets up, runs across the field, makes up about 30 yards and tackles the GB CB. On Felix Jones TD run, as Jones runs by him at full speed, Owens from a dead stop, starts running, catches up to him, blocks the defender and actually gains and passed Jones....

With all of his issues, one thing you can't take from him, is the man gives his all out on the field... No taking plays off ala Moss, he is a beast...

Anyway, wish I had him on my team...

I agree with you. There is no doubt that TO wants his share of touches, but he is also going to do "team-player" things. He says things that people don't like, but on the field he plays football. I've always been a fan of his. I'd want him him on my fantasy team and my football team.

That Felix Jones TD play was sick. I mean, Jones blew by the entire Pack defense, but for Owens to make up all that ground was unreal :towelwave:

If you're ever wondering how fast TO really is, just pull up that play.

He caught Jones with Jones at full speed, about 5 yds ahead of him, and TO starting from a dead stop.... The int tackle was even more incredible. He was slammed to the turf, the guy had 25-30 yds on him + across the field, and TO was the only Cowboy to catch him.... I bet he beats Moss in a foot race with pads on...

His speed tonight really surprised me. I had no idea he was that fast... and he's 34 years old!
I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and Mortensen was talking about TO's speed, how he still has jets at 34, and Keyshawn kept saying repeatedly "I can tell you how, but you'll will have to wait until we are off the air", basically calling him a juicer.

I'm a longtime TO fan and have owned him in a dynasty league since 1999. He's my favorite active player and one of my all-time faves. However, I've been surprised by him this season - - his work ethic, his tenacity, and his SPEED have been amazing. I first realized something was up watching Hard Knocks, but the first three games have confirmed it. He's undergone a total attitude shift, loves his situation, and in a game when he's getting doubleteamed and isn't able to contribute as much as he'd like, he turns in two plays like the two you folks posting above have mentioned. And did I mention the speed? Somehow I knew, right after seeing him get slam blocked on the INT, that he was going to get right up and torch down the field to try to get in on the tackle. And his boost on the FJones run was amazing. Props. The guy is incredible.

He's amazing, yes, but his catch performance last night wasn't. Didn't catch the 2nd half. Was he basically a decoy or was Harris/Woodson shutting him down?

MeShaun adds nothing legitimate to ESPN. At all. A mouth without a brain.

I agree completely. that said it does not take much of a brain to relate what you have witnessed. Also Owens is clearly faster now at 34 that he was at 25. In my experience that is not possible for unaltered humans.

What's difficult to quantify is how much more open Witten was all night and how much softer the run support was for Barber as a result of T.O. being on the field. The Packers clearly went in with the gameplan that T.O. isn't beating us. And they were true to their word, T.O. didn't beat them. With Dallas right now, it's pick your poison.

How many more years you think he has left? I'll try not to hijack, so hopefully this will help others in a similar situation, but I have a trade offer for him. Helps me now, but if he only has a year left it might not be worth it. He's almost 35 and that's about the end of the road for guys at his position. But he sure looks like he could keep it up for another 5 years. Pretty amazing.

I seriously do not like the man, but there is no questioning his skill, toughness and desire to play football.

I would guess this year and next year at most. But expecting anything beyond that, you are really reaching. I'd say if you can get good value with a youth boost for TO right now, it would be smart to move him.

Someone is actually trying to trade him to me. Post is in AC forum. I'm not sure how he does it...obviously there are some who would think he's taking something along the lines of what Bonds was "possibly" taking (bay area secret). Maybe TO can still be productive into his early 40s as well. :goodposting:

Am I the only one that remember him being referred to as alligator arms?

Always is apparently a relative term

So you're absolutely convinced that TO has to be on the juice?

He's not just all of a sudden incredibly fast. I noticed it first in Philly. They're in Denver and they eventually get blown out. But this one TO play will always stay with me. He gets a quick pass at the line of scrimmage, puts a little move on Camp Bailey and breaks away for 90 yards - no one is close.

Two years ago vs ATL he had one or two plays where he left DeAngelo Hall in the dust. That was the same year Hall won Fastest Man in the Pro Bowl competitions. Now, Owens would never go into a competition like that, but when the game's on the line I'm not sure anyone's as fast as him.

That's why he's perfect for ESPN. As for the Owens drug allegations, it wouldn't exactly be shocking, but I'm not saying he is doing it either. Really I doubt the NFL truly cares as like most pro sports they are far from serious about drug testing. I just wish he'd catch more than 2/3 #@$! balls a game. He's going to cost me a win this week.

 He's been doing that his entire career. Had a play like that in the pre-season of his rookie year against the Redskins IIRC.More Props for TO! Still though, it was funny to hear him talk about Philly and McNabb like it just happened. I even saw him on the sideline during that Philly game saying "they still love to hate me!".... Get over it.

He is bigger, stronger, leaner, more ripped and noticeably faster now than in his 20's. He has displayed remarkably irratic behavior with the attempted suicide (or misunderstanding depending on who you believe) and his inappropriate crying about "he's my quarterback". Yes, I have every reason to believe he is juiced. I don't believe he is the one exception to the aging process. I acknowledge his hard work but that does not explain his current abilities since I believe he was just as hardworking in his 20's. The same work is not now, at his older age, producing better results. There is but one explanation. Now someone will read this and rip me pointing out the obvious, I have no proof. I freely admit to no proof. This is but my opinion.

As for running down Felix, it was impressive. But I've come to see that Felix' straightline speed is not that great. He can be chased down from behind. On his kickoff return TD, Stanback ran him down as well. His 40 time at the combine was around 4.47. Obviously good, but hardly elite.

That said, Felix is showing world class acceleration, vision, and shake. That kickoff return TD showed he can practically run full speed going sideways. He is absolutely electric to watch. I sit up in my seat every time he touches the ball. He's going to be really, really good for a long time. But he will get caught from behind on occasions. It appears that there will be a lot of opportunities for that to happen.

This is true. Even at 34, he still has a lot of maturing to do... Some might say he's come a long way, but he could still stand to grow by leaps and bounds. Does he not realize that he is the ONLY person still talking about his time in Philly? ETA: Well, aside from the media, but they only bring it up because they KNOW that TO can't just let it go.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this... Once, he makes his mind up on a cut, he hits full speed almost instantly.
