Scott Walker WI governor vs the Packers & teachers (5 Viewers)

Question: does Wisconsin pretty much go the way of the other battleground states, where the rural counties vote red and the counties with the big cities vote blue, and it basically comes down to a question of turnout? Or are there other dynamics at play?
It's actually the opposite. Madison and Milwaukee are about 90% Republican but many of the smaller cities and towns up north all vote Democrats.
This couldn't be any more incorrect
What I wrote is true. You, are incorrect.
You are 100% wrong. Dems carry Milwaukee and Madison every election by huge numbers. It's the remainder of the state, led by Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Brown counties that bring the Republican vote. Milwaukee and Dade County (Madison) vote overwhelmingly Democratic.
Madison is in Dane county.

Madison is full of republicans. The 60's with all their hippies are gone. Milwaukee is more red than any city in the state.
I honestly don't know if I'm dealing with a sane person here. Anyone?

Okay, mario. You have to break this down for us because NO ONE believes you in this. Help us understand, because Milwaukee and Madison are overwhelmingly Democrat. It's not even close.

Stick to Nintendo. Do you think all those recall protests were in Mequon?

Tim, besides Walker winning statewide election for Governor multiple times now, you are missing out that he won multiple times for Milwaukee county Exec, which for someone like him should be impossible with the overwhelming Democrat majority. Granted he got in at first after a huge scandal, but he stayed in there fighting most of the time with the Milwaukee County Board...you are right, he is a winner.

No, Sheboygan.

There's an old joke in Wisconsin.

Q: What do you call 50 square miles surrounded by reality?

A: Madison.

Madison is one of the most liberal places you will ever find...

I'd offer up a wager with this guy but it would feel like I'm stealing from the disadvantaged. Just can't in good conscience.
I will bet you $100 that Madison is not in Dade county. I'll give you 10:1 odds on that.
Yeah, it's Dane, I missed a key on the keyboard. Still sticking to your Madison and Milwaukee are 90% Republican claim?

To get back to Tim's original question. Wisconsin is much like many other states. Big Democratic numbers in the population centers and very red throughout the rest of the state. Basically the opposite of what Mario Kart claimed.

Madison is the best city to live in though. I'd move back in a second if there was a job for me there.

I'll send you my address for that $100. Dancing in the streets tonight in Madison and Milwaukee. The rest of the state is whining.

Have to say too that love him or hate him, (and I know a lot of you love him) Scott Walker is a winner. He has now won 3 major elections in 4 years in a battleground state. He has challenged progressives each time. He kind of is starting to remind me of Richard Nixon (not in ethics- don't get me wrong) in that he seems to be a normal guy, rather dull IMO, without any personal charisma that I can see- and yet the guy keeps winning. I think the Republicans really need to think about putting this guy on the national ticket.
Have you heard him lately? He has grown tremendously in that area. Killing his victory speech.

ETA: Commentators saying how the speech wasn't just a victory speech but also laying the groundwork for a possible presidential race. Speech was intended for a much larger audience. Very very powerful speech. I wasn't really sold on his presidential possibilities before but after hearing that speech . . . wow

Walker just took the stage!
Burke conceded in a phone call.
What a great fight by Burke. She put her best foot forward and gave Wisconsin so many truths. The voters just didn't get out to vote for her. They stayed home. Not sure what else Burke could have done but uninformed voters voted the other way. Wisconsin lost tonight. Two more years before the next election.
Not subtle enough to be a good fishing trip.

Love it. You're uninformed if you voted for Scott Walker.

Burke is a ####ing moron.

Walker has his flaws...but is far better for Wisconsin than Burke would ever have been.

Really? Uninformed is the text book definition for someone who votes for a plagarizer, called a "disaster" by the previous DEMOCRAT administration, let go from her position in her family's company and is a 1%er (y'know, those people liberals always rail against).

You've got to be under a rock to not see that Burke may have been the most unqualified candidate that either party has ever put up in any state.

I voted for Walker. Even so, the idea that Kleefisch is a heartbeat away from being governor is unsettling.
Can't be any worse than Burke would have been.
Burke lost. Kleefisch could be governor tomorrow. She's incompetent and would be a disaster. Here's hoping Walker doesn't die or get sick or quits or is arrested.
Well, no #### Burke lost. Burke WAS incompetent AND a "disaster" - a term used to describe her FROM THE PREVIOUS DEMOCRAT ADMINISTRATION. On top of that, let go by her own family-owned company! And you're saying Kleefish is incompetent and a disaster? WTF?

Kleefish couldn't not even possibly be that bad.

Based on what?
Oh come on. Good for you if you're confortable with her as possible governor. I'm not. It's known that Walker himself doesn't like her.
Really? Link?

I'll ask again, on what basis do you think she is incompetent and would be a disaster?

Yeah, I'm anxious to see how she would be worse than "Governor Burke". Nothing in Kleefish's history suggests she would be terrible. Burke, on the other hand, has a history of red flags that screams "disaster".

link - there is more if you dig.

Geez you guys. i already said i voted for Walker.I'm not conformable with Kleefisch and I'm not alone in that, even among Walker voters.
I'll take the chance that we might have a below average governor for two years over the certainty that we would've had an unqualified one for four years.

Or maybe Burke would have quit mid-term due to stress and goes snowboarding.

Do you think a more qualified D candidate could have won against Walker yesterday?

 I do think so..

There are many independents that are looking for someone to vote for.. The majority have supported Walker the past 3 elections because of the candidate the Democrats put up made you think "What the Hell are they thinking??"

first it was a failed candidate in Barrett( twice) and now Burke.. hmmmmm. maybe the voters in Wisconsin just don't like those with a "B" last name :oldunsure:

Next step for Walker are Republican primaries. I am pretty sure I have already said this, but I will say it again to rub in lib faces when he is president in 2016.

He is the republican version of slick willie. The other side hates him with a vengeance but nothing ever seems to stick. I think it is pretty telling that millions were wasted on investigating him, yet he won by his largest margin yet. This will be 1992 all over again.

Not sure if you are from Wisconsin, but the reason nobody else would run was because the few Democrats with any credibility (Feingold, Kind) knew they had no chance of beating him. All other Dem pols in Wisconsin are certified buffoons. They have as weak a bench as I have ever seen. Even when Johnson is up, unless Kind takes him on, I fail to see who they will put up that will not look like a fool. Plus Walker at the head of the presidential ticket will not help matters for the dems.
