Screw Hardball, What about OOTP - Is it time? (1 Viewer)

Ok, not only is hardball dynasty expensive, but getting your own "world" is kind of a no go.

Now researching Out of the Park baseball as an alternative.

Wants:

1. Draft

2. Maybe start with real players current or historical

3. Online game information

4. Multiple dorks to participate.

Very interested.

It does seem like if someone was going to do the "Tampa Bay" plan, they would need this thing to go multiple seasons.

I'd consider this, but I really know nothing about it. Cheese is probably salivating at the prospect of crushing 31 n00bs.

Couldn't find on WIS site on my phone, what's the cost (I'm cheap) same as the other leagues?
The first season is $5, but then I think it's more than a regular league.
Ok, I saw that 3 month season for 4.95, wasn't sure if that was a full season. I'd be in if there's enough and it doesn't jump up too much in price.
That $4.95 is for one season which I assume is like a regular WIS baseball season only with all of the franchise bells and whistles and drafts and what-not. After that it looks like it's $22 a season or thereabouts, so it's not super cheap.

After that first season, it's $89.95 for a 4-season pack and $199.95 for a 10-season pack.

Not prohibitive, but pricier than I hoped.

$5 is right for the first full season. That includes everything. After that though, it goes up a decent amount. I want to say 24.95, but my memory sucks.

Time suck.... ya, kinda. It just depends I guess. There are a ton of options for what you want to control. If you let the CPU control your minor league lineups, rotation, bullpens, etc then I'm sure it takes less time. There are 5 levels of minors below your MLB team. They all play a full schedule also.

The biggest thing I learned is that their is no magic formula for which ratings are important. Some players have high overall ratings and suck and some have lower overall ratings and rake. The more important things are the detailed ratings. If you get a guy with a control of 20 (out of 100), your BB/9 will be so bad that he can be 100 at everything else and you will hate him. That is just one example. If you get a lockdown guy with a stamina of 24 you better be using him as a specialist or his stats will be awful because he'll always be pitching tired. I either like balanced guys or guys with skill sets/weaknesses that fit ballpark. That's pretty obvious.

Some people say that there is also a magic yr 27 in this. Your guys will basically have all their increases in ratings/skill by that age. Then they level off and eventually decline. You can see a players projected improvement in each area, but it's based on your scouting. If you don't put much of your budget in scouting gllllllllllll relying on them.

I will think about other stuff, but I can also try to answer Qs if it will help. Seriously though, not an expert at all. Only have played in that 1 world.

Oof. I'm not smart enough for this ####. It sounds great but what happens when a few teams just give up, not just for a season but for good.

My brain is exploding just thinking about the complexity here.

We replace them with new blood. Take a look at your new t-shirt and ask yourself what you're really about.

I'm about gloating in my king of the nerdom championship and remaining in my new found comfort zone.

:winning:

So we draft a team of made up players to start or are we just given a random team? If it's a draft, how many players are we talking about drafting (with there being 5 minor league levels and all)?

Random pre populated team. You basically start from there.

Whoaaaaa.... No draft? Where's the shtick?

I say we make a megadynastitty league where you draft players who then have to play baseball, football, basketball and hockey

Woof.

I'm out for this league, too. Drafting and historical players make up 99.9% of my interest in these things.

If this is the road you want to go down, why doesn't everyone just buy OOTP for a one-time fee and do it that way?

This might be the better route. I opened a ticket to see why I couldn't start my own world and they said they don't allow users to start them. WTF?

So, I guess we might be stuck there. I'll look into OOTP and see if that can suit our nerds.

I bought OOTP religiously for a couple years, then took last year off. This year's version of OOTP is $40, but I think it's due for a discount soon.

That is pretty pricey.

And this is going to sound stupid, but I was looking at it on my phone: fake players or real MLB and minor league players?

Fake.
OOTP can be real.

ETA: And can also start with a clusterfack of a draft if you were so inclined.

I'm in. And totally in favor of a clusterfack of a draft.

I am interested. I have OOTP13 (last season) and not sure of all the changes but a little overview for those that don't know...

First of all, we can start with the full MLB universe including all minor league players with every player down to rookie ball. We can choose to release all players and draft 175+ players each in an full organization draft. You fire/hire three man coaching staffs for each team in your organization along with a MLB bench coach, trainer, and a scouting staff. You can set up your lineups and staff in probably as specific manner as you would like (at all levels).

The MLB universe tries to match MLB rules in all areas. We will draft amateurs each year with free agent compensation. Either you have an owner that controls your budget or you can manage your entire budget (payroll, coaching, scouting, player development, draft and international FA signings). We can choose to equalize the budgets.

All that said, we can control the environment in any way we choose. And you can control your team in as much detail as you like or let the AI handle any responsibilities your are not interested in. I have never played in a multi-person league so I am not sure how that works day to day.

OOTP14 was I believe $25 during the all star break and the price will drop again at some point after the season. OOTP15 will come out in April typically a a few days after the season starts.

Perhaps we look to get an OOTP going on one side, a simple straight forward WIS (bonds to ruth) on the other. I'd be in for both to be honest, though not to draft at the same time.

Looks like OOTP13 is $19.99...any huge difference there or is it just the rosters?

Do you know anything about playing online?
